  1. The relationship between Russell's character and Andy Griffiths' character was the best part of Waitress for me.
  2. I think Fruit of the Month is also about Marie reacting to something she can't control and her worries about good food going to waste. As lordonia noted, the fruit typically has to be eaten within a week or so. What if it's a fruit you don't care for that much? Now she's got to worry about giving it to someone who'll actually like it because letting food go to waste is tantamount to a sin for her. Yeah, the reaction was over-the-top, but I could relate to it.
  3. I'm curious about the upcoming title A Roy Rogers in Franconia. Franconia is about 20 minutes away from Falls Church, where I think the Jennings family is supposed to live. Franconia has a U.S. Coast Guard base. It also currently has a Roy Rogers in a strip mall. I wonder if that was its location in 1983 as well.
  4. Elizabeth had been developing her relationship with Young He and directly observing YH's interactions with Don for at least 8 months. She did a lot of homework that we don't explicitly know about. She took her best shot, and if it hadn't worked, she would have reported that to the Center. As it turned out, she understood Don pretty well. I think Alderholt is examining a wide range of files that might potentially be connected to Martha. Again, it's been 7 or 8 months since Martha disappeared, so he should have covered a lot of ground.
  5. Tickled to learn that the computer expert/Patty's stepmom was played by Marceline Hugot, who also portrayed Kathy Geiss on 30 Rock. My goodness, that poor woman gets saddled with some truly egregious wigs/hairstyles! Looking forward to a rewatch soon. So much happened in this episode, running the gamut from quiet conversations to fast-paced shock. The parking lot incident reminded me of A History of Violence.
  6. I had a Crunchy Frog reference in the personal ad that led to meeting my husband. The Hungarian in a Tobacconist Shop is one of my all-time fave's: My nipples explode with delight! Another is the soccer game between Greek and German philosophers: Eureka!
  7. She and Kimbrough were married since 2002. Do you have any reason to think he'd make this up? Howland also had a daughter born in the 1960s who doesn't appear to have spoken up any sooner. Just sounds like an interesting personality quirk to me. YMMV.
  8. That was from another source. For example, the NYTimes obit of today says:
  9. I dunno... someone who could marry both Michael J. Pollard and Charles Kimbrough seems capable of some odd requests.
  10. From the Hollywood Reporter: Beth Howland, Who Played Vera on 'Alice,' Dies at 74 ETA: Her husband, actor Charles Kimbrough, said Howland died on Dec. 31, 2015, but an announcement was delayed per her request. Kimbrough played Jim Dial on Murphy Brown.
  11. I thought this as well. Is tiring physical labor such a foreign concept nowadays?
  12. Just as I'm sure they would see nothing amiss with an overweight MLB in the lead while Jenna Fischer has to stay in supermodel shape for even a nothing role. I'm not ragging on MLB personally, just the double standard. I like eye candy, too.
  13. The New Yorker asks What Was "The Good Wife" Really About? Gosh, is that what happened? Must have been while I was yawning.
  14. The Speculation Without Spoilers thread would seem to be the place to do that.
  15. Maybe they'd have better chemistry if MLB lost about 25 pounds.
  16. I was 27 when DTA aired. I vaguely recall watching it. I don't recall it being something "everyone" discussed, but I was focused on a demanding job and lots of volunteer activities at the time.
  17. Another figure in Beatles history has passed as well, publicist Tony Barrow, "who gave up his career as a journalist and music critic to become the Beatles’ first publicist in 1962, and who for the next six years played a crucial role in shaping the public’s perception of the Fab Four — a nickname he coined..."
  18. Vera Cherny (Tatiana) played Dulcinea in a little-known film version of Don Quixote that my niece worked on.
  19. I'd have to go back and check, but I think Don was revealed to be something of a vinophile when "Patti" first had dinner with Young Hee's family. I thought that was why Elizabeth chose a bottle of wine (ostensibly as a present for her brother) that was of such quality that Don would certainly want to try it out.
  20. I think you're right that the KGB framed Gregory, but they still gave him a choice. Elizabeth lashed out at Philip about Gregory for complicated emotional reasons, I think, but she's also logical and must know that if Martha had tried to turn down the Center's plan for her, she'd be as dead as Gregory.
  21. Didn't Gregory have the same option as Martha? I recall Elizabeth talking to him about adapting to life in the USSR. He rejected that and chose to go out the way he did, knowing that what he really wanted (to go on the run in the US) was not acceptable to the KGB, for whom he willingly worked. Ha, that's a good image. ;-) It's a bit subtle, but back in the 2nd or 3rd episode, Gabriel gave Elizabeth a list of possible targets for getting access to the 4th floor of the lab where William works. This was her new and urgent assignment. Almost immediately after that, we saw Elizabeth cozying up to Young Hee through Mary Kay. Since Young Hee does not work at the lab herself, the inference is that a family member (most likely her husband) worked there. E's mission is to work this relationship in a way that will result in access to the 4th floor.
  22. Never understood how this character had time for haircuts and coloring let alone all that clothes shopping.
  23. LMAO. Thank you for these images!
  24. I don't see a link between those outcomes and Alicia's "support" for Peter over the years. Alicia's absenteeism as a mother, her dithering with Will, and all the rest seem to come (IMO) from some fundamental issues in her personality -- issues that the show has only skirted around over the years rather than confronting head-on, much as Alicia herself does. For example, itwas never clear to me why she stayed married to Peter pretty much "in name only" other than to keep the show going.
