I hope they do at least wrap up what happened with him and Luisa and Joanie.

So Joshua Jackson's out for Season 5 (mostly). That makes think maybe they are heading into a reconcilliation for Helen and Noah. I'm not sure I'll be tuning in as JJ was really my reason to watch, but probably my curiosity will kick in and I'll check it out. https://tvline.com/2018/09/25/joshua-jackson-leaving-the-affair-season-5-cole/

You're welcome! The sequel, Hidden Bodies, is also great. He's narrated some other books as well, mostly multi-cast recordings, but I haven't listened to the others.
-
Ah thanks. I guess I maybe glossed over it in the book. The inclusion in the show makes it seem as though that treatment is his reason for his terrible behavior a little bit.
-
For next season, Annie Murphy (from Schitt's Creek) should absolutely play Love. I had her (or maybe her Schitt's Creek character at least) in my head the entire time I was listening to the audio. Was the bookstore owner abusive to Joe in the book? I didn't recall that exactly. I remember him being tough maybe but...hitting him and locking him in the cage? IDK I have the worst memory after I finish a book.

Could be! Or maybe she meant Janelle? I wonder if tensions are high again between Meri and Janelle. (Though I'm not sure why---too much "therapy" perhaps.)
-
Very interesting. Esp. since Meri was the one to usher Maddie into the whole LLR thing, seemingly. I wonder what particular "safety net" she's attacking. Not LLR since she's talking about it in the past tense or like it's been a longtime thing. Hmm.

I'm a huge fan of the audiobooks, narrated to perfection by Santino Fontana. He really was able to bring Joe's sardonic humor alive. From the previews, it looked like all the humor of the books might be lost and this would be a more...trademark Lifetime vehicle with the focus on a woman in distress, but Badgley struck the right note. The voicover was spot-on and really made the whole thing work. I don't recall the neighbor boy's story being in the books, so I'm guessing that was added specifically for the show to try to humanize Joe a little more. I could've done without it honestly, and hope they wrap it up fairly quickly. I'm excited to see more at any rate.

Other Foster Homes Along The Way: The Cast in Other Roles
taragel replied to fastiller's topic in The Fosters [V]
Buzzfeed has been covering Noah pretty much 24/7 since To All the Boys debuted. I think they might lose their minds when Sierra Burgess comes out Friday. There's at least a dozen articles on this google search if not more: https://www.google.com/search?q=noah centineo site%3Abuzzfeed.com&oq=buzz&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j69i60l4.1315j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&ved=2ahUKEwjegcijqqDdAhXyY98KHZV2Ah8Q2wF6BAgBEAg&ei=pPGNW96fNfLH_QaV7Yn4AQ -
I've watched up to the carriage house one but got interrupted. (The pilot's Seattle houseboat was fun too.) I really enjoy this one, especially that you get a different perspective than just design because they talk about the marketing. I wish you got results on how they helped the homeowners increase their business. And I assume it must be Netflix/AllTheRooms that must be footing the bill for all these flips, because the homeowners all seemed pretty stretched thin for cash (one worked for a nonprofit, one owned the huge farm, one's husband just died and he was the breadwinner)... and these renos are EXPENSIVE.

Actually, I think the murder mystery is entirely off the table now. Treem says in that clip posted above that the audience are the only ones who will ever know the truth, that Alison was murdered and didn't commit suicide. So there'd be no point to have Cole and Noah spend time investigating if they're not going to get any answers. (I realize that's a meta statement about this whole show, but...).
-
One thing that's always interested me about Cole and Alison's relationship that the show always glossed over is that they were high school sweethearts, which means they were together for about 15 or so years. That's a long time. I think if Helen had died instead of Alison, Noah might be acting just as Cole is now (since she's "The One" for him, per his own words.) Or he's a sociopath and Anton was right. :)
-
You know, that really could have worked well (with a few tweaks to Noah's part maybe) to be the series finale. I do wonder if they filmed it with that in mind. Can't recall when they got a S5 renewal but think it was after it started airing this season. And now I'm less convinced we're going to have to sit through a boring ass investigation of Ben next year. I mean maybe they'll touch on that but I don't think that's what the whole season will be. So I expect there'll be a flash forward and whatever these folks get up to will be something new and random (and honestly kind of pointless as it's so far removed from where the show actually started.) I really thought it'd be kind of a trip if Helen jumped too and next season was some kind of weird Odd Couple reboot with Noah and Cole. I appreciate that this show has finally maybe found a funny bone. The Say Yes to the Dress thing from two weeks ago and now Cole running like he was just drafted by the Jets, and the ridiculous bits of Noah and Helen's heart-to-heart ("It's okay, I fucked her too.") My one wish for S5: More Whi(t)ney! I find her megalomania kinda funny, honestly. (And she's a ballet dancer with a dancer's body, so yes, pretty sure she's always been that thin.)
-
Yes, and I think this show is ambitious but I have trouble respecting it. As a storyteller you have to make choices, this "every possibility is valid because who knows the reality" seems really like they're shirking their responsibility, IMO. Same reason I didn't care for The Sopranos ending...it didn't. Stories need endings. Make a choice.
-
Ben suddenly being revealed as a murderer just feels very...convenient in a way. IDK. I hope this doesn't set up a final season where Cole and Noah are all about figuring out the truth of Alison's death, but on the other hand I don't know what S5 is about if NOT that.

Yup it is! Here's a link: https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/When-Good-Place-Season-2-Netflix-45077459

I actually just started a rewatch this past weekend, but....season one is available on Netflix, the first episode of S2 is on demand for free, and only the last four episodes of S2 are available on Hulu. Eps 2-7 of S2 aren't on streaming right now. But all of s2 is coming to Netflix on Aug 28, I think? So you might want to wait till then.

Media: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Makes The News!
taragel replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend [V]
I love this idea. I think it's a really smart way to treat it if you're going to do a recast. They're saying they never approached Santino about returning; I'm guessing he never would have come back anyway. So I think it's great that they're playing with Rebecca's perception this way. Because now that she's a bit more...healed/trying to heal and find her peace, it makes sense that the Greg she projected on was never actually the "real" Greg. -
When I looked up what new show Ruth is doing, it turns out it's a BBC drama based on the life of her own grandmother, Alison (heh) Wilson. She's a producer and clearly shepherded it into being. Makes sense to me that she wanted off to do such a personal project. Perhaps the timing ended up needing to be earlier than expected to accommodate other people's schedules. (There are also rumors on twitter that there was sexual harassment on the set that might have contributed to this. Though I doubt it has anything to do with Joshua Jackson. It seems their brief dating period was over long ago and supposedly he's with someone else now. And given that he managed to work with Katie Holmes for years after they broke up on Dawson's...I'd be surprised if it was an issue.) I appreciate how under wraps they kept this so that it was truly surprising and shocking. I think it's going to turn out that Alison did indeed commit suicide, but clearly something more with Ben might have contributed to that choice. I'm very curious as to what S5 will be about though. I really don't think they're going to go the courtroom/murder trial route again and I don't know that Noah's trials with teaching are all that interesting. Helen and Vik's predicament has some legs and Cole's storyline could be wide open assuming he leaves Luisa. Actually, depending on what happens with Vik, I wouldn't be surprised by another time jump.

All Episodes Talk: Just Your Normal Average American Town
taragel replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Castle Rock
So my dog was yapping his little head off and I very well might have missed something but what the hell was that with those little kids in animal masks and Derek, the next-town-over drug dealer? I really thought it was going to be a dream/nightmare sequence until he pulled Molly aside. I love that they cast Melanie Lynskey and Alison Tolman as sisters. That's so perfect. Also, I don't know if anyone mentioned above but Jane Levy's character name is Jackie Torrance, so I assume she must have some connection to The Shining's Jack. -
I was thinking that same thing this episode. It's such a male fantasy of a show. Alison's whole characters is basically about being everyone's fucked up dream girl. Helen is slightly more grounded, but then she can also be relegated to the stereotype of the nagging wife. As Luisa has been now. This show might have the biggest madonna-whore dichotomy going on I've ever seen.
-
My goodness, they focus on the most mundane and boring plotlines. I do not want to see Noah teach school or have teacher meetings. I don't think any show has EVER traveled so far from its original premise.

Other Foster Homes Along The Way: The Cast in Other Roles

Noah Centineo is the male lead in this new Netflix Original based on the bestselling YA book by Jenny Han, To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Looks very cute (Netflix killing it in the original romcom division lately.) -
So I just discovered that, in addition to this show and Fleabag, the brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge created a sitcom called Crashing that is very playful and entertaining and delightful. It's on Netflix--though apparently there was a US remake by Judd Apatow, so beware (I looked for a thread on her Crashing here but there was only one for the remake). I have such a girl crush on PWB, she's so talented and accomplished, and man she's having quite a year with all this PLUS the Han Solo role. Amazing.

I was just talking to a friend about this. They might as well have been apart for six months instead of six years for all it really matters. No one is processing anything emotionally, and we're at the season's midpoint already. This show really likes to follow in BSG's footsteps, and it's falling into the same pitfalls that show did where it became all about plot instead of about how the characters felt and reacted to things and interacted with one another. Disappointing.
