I'm putting money down now that Pandas are somehow involved.

I assume the musical numbers are dwindling because Rebecca is living less in fantasyland as the show goes on and that's why they've begun to be performed more and more frequently by other people. But...it's definitely making it less than the show it used to be. It's hard to believe this is only the midpoint of the season. Maybe they've been saving their best stuff for this final arc. I saw Rachel on the blue carpet at Critics Choice Awards saying the ending they originally envisioned for the show is still the ending they're leading to. So maybe it'll feel a bit more like the show's earlier seasons.
-
I feel very much the same. :/ I'm not sure why they felt the need to extend this final season to 18 episodes honestly. I hope they have some big twists in store for the end of the story. I don't think I can believe in Rebecca being happy as a single, pretzel store owner even if she is more mentally stable.

When Calls The Heart - General Discussion
taragel replied to maraleia's topic in When Calls The Heart
Right? I'm amazed they managed to resist having Henry adopt the mute orphan girl who kept making him read stories to her in the Christmas special. Lololol. That actor must get such whiplash if he reads the scripts back to back with his Riverdale ones. I did think it was interesting they're trying to launch a spinoff series about the new orphanage on their streaming service. They didn't really hype that very much, just caught one quick ad for it on one of the commercial breaks. Abigail finally had her hair up when they were decorating the nursery! That's also a rare occasion. I noticed she was using some very modern-looking quilted oven mitts while doing her baking. And Opal seems to have grown quite a bit. Not sure if that was the same actress. Kevan also now seems to be using the same weird accent that Pascale does (yet that none of the other cast members use). -

Agreed but I don't know that choosing herself says she doesn't deserve love--those are pretty separate concepts. In fact, I could definitely see it be all about how none of the three guys are it, they're just the milestones she needed along the way ("The Good Place was the friends we made....") but then in the last few minutes she meets someone, there's a potential spark and you see a crazy gleam come into Rebecca's eye. Almost the way horror movies sometimes have that "Oh no, this shit isn't over, is it?" kind of end tease. Lol. Not because I think Rebecca hasn't learned and changed and grown but....I could see them wanting to hint that love will always have the potential to make you crazy. Definitely. Also, I had a moment of "wow, his friends really are kind of shitty to/about him" when they were rolling their eyes at this. It felt the same as the way everyone was warning Rachel not to hang out with Darryl a few weeks ago. I guess it's realistic, friends do shit talk about each other behind backs, but still kind of makes me annoyed at all of them. Be nice to your friends!! -

I was thinking the Greg recasting was clever when announced and I quite liked Astin in the Pitch Perfect movies, but I didn't like it in execution. They just felt awkward the entire time to me. There wasn't much meaning or emotion to Greg being back when he....wasn't Greg. I think Astin sort of has a happy muppet vibe, which works on paper as a Greg whose changed but...he just didn't feel like Greg to me. And the writing wasn't very strong for Greg either. Rebecca seemed to do most of the talking and heavy lifting in their scenes. IDK. I wish it had worked better for me. I'm very curious to see if they give Rebecca an endgame romance/HEA when the whole show is about illustrating how the conventional romance arc/expectations drive you crazy. I thought there was no way they couldn't when the early seasons were so so heavily focused on her love life. But the show really has moved away from that quite a bit. I can't say it's for the better, as I don't think the show is nearly as strong as it used to be, but...I could see a "I choose me" ending now--in fact that would make more sense than Rebecca ending up with Josh, Greg or Nathaniel. -
This was another enjoyable episode for me. Hopefully the show can maintain this upswing. It was really nice to see pairings we don't usually get. The Beach Boys medley through the ages was a great number and that really felt "vintage" CEG to me. I had a different reaction to Daryl than everyone else it seems, which is that they all were really dumping on Daryl big time at the beginning. He may have his flaws with not knowing boundaries and feeling too much, but...don't they all have their issues? I mean it seemed like they gave him a Rebecca plotline this episode where he keeps pushing things too far until he finally learns his lesson and things turn out okay. I thought the almost-kisses were hilarious because they were so EXPECTED and cliche with this kind of "two unlikely poeple get stuck togehter and learn a lot from each other....and fall in love" storyline. Josh's heavy lifting with the desk and the water cooler was also great. And I'm glad that it's clear Valencia and Heather will still be on the show regularly.

S03.E09: Don't Let the Good Life Pass You By

Aw, the Warehouse! I forgot about that. I imagine there'll be another twist/cliffhanger/change of location after the void. It might be because she had a recurring role on Supergirl (which films in Vancouver) until last week's episode--maybe they filmed at the same time. -

I was just thinking the same and that it's a little weird Michael is such a staunch advocate (now) of getting them to The Good Place when he doesn't seem to know anything about it or what it's like right? (It's possible Judge Gen has also never seen/been to the good place.) I also remember one scene with Jane in a totally white room/backdrop in S1 and that was her void. So it's basically a white screen episode, I'd imagine. Do we have to wait till January at this point? I'm not ready for a hiatus! -
I liked this episode a lot more than pretty much all the other ones this season. I think I've really missed the scheming. Rebecca and Paula were both up to no good this episode and I think it made the show funnier and lighter than it's been in a while. It does seem odd though that Valencia is leaving now (is that it for Gabrielle for a while?). And I imagine we'd have to see Heather less by default as well. The only real clunker for me this episode is that I didn't love Paula's song. It just seemed too much.

Maybe but won't it seem questionable if she discovers something as big as being murdered and we don't see anything from Cole for a reaction. The whole thing is a bit strange honestly.

https://tvline.com/2018/11/09/the-affair-anna-paquin-season-5-time-jump-joanie/ Well this is interesting. I don't really understand how adult Joanie is going to be connected to Noah and Helen. I mean, maybe Noah, but... It also seems weird that she, what, won't be in contact with her father while she's investigating her mother's death? Maybe they're going to kill Cole and Luisa off. I also saw that they cast a new love interest for Helen: https://t.co/77IYa6l47r

I couldn't believe they didn't use a woman's version of this song! (Why are men even covering it?) I thought this was a better episode than most though I'm not sure why. There were less things that made no sense to me this week, so maybe I'm just becoming inured to their dumb choices. Although--I thought that Jon got a loan for the restaurant for them already--or did he just buy them the building? Not at all surprised they had Delilah not go through with the abortion. But what a bunch of selfish, selfish people these all are. She knew it was Eddie's and wasn't going to tell him. And whatever the hell Ashley was up to--how long is she gonna wait to give Delilah whatever it is from Jon? And though I'm not the biggest fan of Grace Park....I miss Katherine. This show needs a no-drama person. I'm confused about how they're going to keep her involved in the show. When Delilah called someone and started to say she needed their help--at first I thought it was with a legal matter (she sounded so reluctant) and she was calling Katherine.

But Rebecca is also... quite the snob when it comes to education and valuing smarts over other qualities. They made a point/joke of that in this very episode. I’m having trouble believing that side of Rebecca would be comfortable telling people she runs a pretzel shop for a living. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that but I don’t believe Rebecca could see it that way, despite this new leaf she’s trying to turn over.
-
I'm torn on the pretzel thing. It's a nice callback to S1 symbolically but...is she really going to be happy selling pretzels? I find it hard to believe. Seems like another classic Rebecca move of jumping into something impulsively to run away from something else. I believe she didn't truly enjoy being a lawyer, but I wish some other skillset had been set up for them to have her switch to. When has Rebecca known anything about marketing or business plans, or making pretzels? Plus where is the startup cash for this coming from since I thought she was pretty broke and she's not really been working for awhile? I know her finances have never really made sense but....there's something a little glib and cliched about how quickly she found something else. I would've liked to see her struggle and figure out what else she's good at before jumping right into something as arguably simplistic as selling pretzels. I haven't been digging this season (or last season) quite as much. I appreciate them having a vision and starting to tie up Rebecca's life story but the show hasn't been quite as entertaining to me, sadly.

S03.E06: The Ballad of Donkey Doug
taragel replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in The Good Place [V]
The casting for Jason's father was so spot-on. The voice/cadence matching just killed me, and him going out with the family war cry of Bortles! was perfect. I hope that wasn't the last of Simone we saw, as she was a great addition, but I imagine it might be for now. Maybe she'll be back in the future though. I wonder how long this particular reset will last. Next week will be Tahani and Eleanor's parental units, I guess. And then what? At some point I imagine we'll check in with Shawn, Trevor, and/or Judge Gen? Love how unpredictable this show is. -
I enjoy this show but the locations/routes in this episode made zero sense. They started uptown at the Planetarium and Central Park but then later they were at Washington Square Park downtown (the arch) when Fliss wandered off within minutes....to Lincoln Center about 60 blocks uptown! Lol. Plus it looks like Miles's office is near the Brooklyn Bridge (or a bridge anyway) and boy did he get uptown fast. It's usually shows that DON'T film in NY that get this kind of stuff wrong. I also kept telling Fliss she needed to get on over to Broadway to fulfill her destiny. (Since Annaleigh Ashford is a Tony nominee.) I enjoyed that it wasn't just God telling Miles to friend someone again, but a more creative way to get them where they needed to be to help people.

So this week's episode (and the preview for next week) seems to be taking it in a different direction from the book... It makes me wonder if they're going to stretch out the Joe-Beck relationship for two seasons rather than just go into the events of Hidden Bodies for a second season. I think I'd prefer them to maybe end the You storyline in s1 and then just take it to LA. The sequel really had two separate storylines that they could easily mold into two seasons--it didn't really get going until he met Love and her family. But if they could make the stuff in the first half of Hidden Bodies a bit more interesting and purposeful, I could see that being season 2 and then him meeting Love at the end to launch a season 3. They could probably get two seasons out of everything that happens with Love and her family actually.

Thanks for explaining and I hope your scan came out clear! Glad to hear you're feeling very well too!

There are so many things that make no sense about this show and every week we learn more of them. I don't believe for a second that this group was having pizza together every Friday night and/or that they've been friends since before Katherine got pregnant and Eddie was in his band. All of that makes Gary's speech in the pilot about them NEVER talking about anything beyond the surface very unlikely. Even given that they're men who don't like to share their feelings.... I just ... it does not compute. Plus if they go that far back--why do they all dislike St. Katherine? They know how she "used to be" and why she had to change to cover for Eddie. How can that engender NO sympathy for her from anyone but Jon? Further Jon does not seem to be neglecting his family OR his wife. Nope. And finally if Maggie's cancer is already so advanced/metastatic...how does she have what seems like zero symptoms? It seems like she'd be feeling the effects by now. And what was the point of getting Gerald McRaney in to play Delilah's dementia-afflicted father? Maybe he'll be back but I legit think they just did that because they're trying super hard to make a comparison between this show and This Is Us, but this show is far more cynical and dark than that one.

I automatically went to Constance Zimmer being Barbara Morgan too. I don't understand so many things about what this show chooses to be. Lol. It's baffling that ABC would approve a "heartfelt" show in which two cheating leads basically maybe drive their mutual loved one to suicide? I mean, I guess there'll be another reason for it, but other than him having some kind of inevitably fatal illness he refuses to disclose to his family and friends to make them sad.... I can't think what would justify the way they're positing him as such a happy-go-lucky seeming guy who'd just stroll himself off a balcony. (And annoying detail niggle: he never moved the bench the way Rome had to in his fantasy sequence. When Ashley runs out after Jon, the bench is quite a ways from the railing. So did he just hurtle it?) I know they want it to be a real mystery why he'd do it, but...I think it's gonna be hard to make it add up in the end. Especially if he's leaving little benevolent messages approving his wife/friend's affair. Delilah and Eddie just seem so amazingly guilt-free to me, and sure, there's murmured "we can't" and "we're terrible" stuff, but they don't act like they truly have guilt over betraying Jon, and if he's so damn wonderful, why the hell not?! The fact that there was no Katherine at all in this episode makes me really wonder how featured she'll be. I figured they'd give Grace more to do since they recast her in the part, but Maggie seems to have just strolled right in and taken her spot, kissing Rome hello and everything. Rome knowing/coaching Jon on the dance really seemed contrived to me. Why wouldn't Delilah suggest her daughter dance with Rome if she knew he'd helped Jon? And why did the daughter choose Eddie at all? James Roday's guy is my favorite. I want to watch him on a different show with better people. Oh and the Ashley stuff. I hope she has more altruistic motives than we think and it's not a tired old (another) affair. But man, she's really inserting herself in that whole business.

The Cast: A Million Little Roles
taragel replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in A Million Little Things
In general, Grace doesn't do a lot of press or fan conventions and isn't on social media--I follow the BSG cast and she's the one you never hear anything about--so I'm not surprised she hasn't "spoken out" about NXIVM at all. She seems very private. I think her involvement was fairly minor and at the very beginning when it truly was supposed to be a leadership conference for women and before most of the craziness began, but that's just my speculation. I was actually more surprised that Kristin Kreuk, who seemed far more involved, got the lead on Burden of Truth, which aired on Canadian TV this summer and then the CW here. But...I'm not sure the NXIVM coverage has been big enough to really impact their reputations, and Hollywood lets lots of people get away with terrible things for a very long time (though usually they aren't women) until they're really called on the carpet and need to save face. That's so interesting about Romany Malco writing the MC Skat Cat rap --but how the heck was he old enough in the 80s...? (Wow he's turning 50, I thought he was a lot younger.) I'm still surprised they got Constance Zimmer to do one line at the funeral. I assume she must be returning, maybe as someone David G's character also slept with? -
Seriously. I think they talked about the show for all of ten minutes of the three hours (ok, that's just what it felt like) they did. I love K. Bell and I even kinda like Dax Shepherd, but I absolutely did not need that much about their marriage nor their weirdly codependent bond with their nanny. I just kept thinking that they were coming off as incredibly privileged and entitled and none of that would really be interesting to people not in their relationship. Strange they focused on it for so long and so much.

Plus they're out of women Noah hasn't slept with. ?
