  1. I did think that. About Mateo being very light. I thought it was a well-handled episode but there was a bit more lightness from the forward skip that I could see annoying people. I'm a romance novel publisher so I love that Jane is so proud/desires to be a romance novelist. But they never ever get the publishing stuff right, which just kind of irks. There's no way in hell some prestigious literary reading series is going to put a basic romance (and that fake cover for it was basic af) in their program. Her advisor would not be interested/proud of a traditional happy-ending romance--that was her claim to Jane all season long and that's why Jane switched to a quasi biographical story about her abeula. And it didn't make any sense that her editor, who HAS NOT EVEN OFFERED TO PUBLISH HER BOOK, would bump one of her own titles to give Jane this slot. Ugh. It's so easy to get this stuff right but they don't even bother. And what was up with the pirate? I felt like we were supposed to recognize him or he was going to whip off his face to be the new Rose...or something.
  2. I forgot Dynasty was CW for some reason--and they've also got Lucy Hale's show Life Sentence that will fit in well with Jane or Crazy Ex. Rothenberg also has another show Searchers with Greg Berlanti. Assuming they pick that up, it could tip things in favor or against The 100 but I assume it'd tip in favor. Rumor has it Shumway will take over as EP if Searchers is picked up and Rothenberg officially moves on. The only other pilot is Insatiable which sounds blah on paper and only really has Ryan Seacrest as EP for name value right now. I'd actually like them to cut a lot of their 22-23 ep shows down to 13-16. It would take the bloat out of so many of them (Arrow, I'm looking at you!). And though critics and viewers soured on S3--this is the kind of show that earned enough good will early on and deals with enough BIG topics and themes that it can get that attention back pretty quickly if they do a good job with the writing and come up with something smart. (Of course, that's debatable.) I think this one has the ability to get that Battlestar-light distinction it had before--or it at least has way more potential for attention than a show like iZombie or The Originals. (Even the Lexa thing might have been seen as any publicity being good publicity by execs.)
  3. I'd venture that The 100 will definitely be renewed. They're losing TVD and Reign this year. No Tomorrow definitely isn't coming back, and Frequency probably isn't either because bad ratings/little buzz. IMO they really should cancel iZombie and I'll be surprised if it gets another chance if it continues on as its been. Next year, that leaves definites: Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, Legends, Supernatural, Jane the Virgin, and Crazy Ex Girlfriend, and most likelies: Black Lightning (duh), Riverdale (not because ratings, but because they want to expand that universe), The Originals (because they like Julie Plec/TVD nostalgia), and The 100 (despite the Clexa misstep, it still gets relatively good buzz/more attention from critics than most of their other shows.) They've got 5 other new shows (besides BL) in development and none of them sound great besides maybe Valor (a military drama with romance). Because some of them will be midseason only (or Summer?) or shorter like Crazy Ex, there's a lot of fluidity there, and I'm pretty sure The 100's a lock for an S5.
  4. Maybe if you gave it some of Teen Wolf or Scream's promo budget the numbers wouldn't have been so disappointing, eh, MTV?
  5. I have to admit I never really think of Bellamy (or Raven) as "older". Because they're lumped in with the 100, I think of them all as roughly the same age. I assumed Bellamy was maybe 19, tops. Morley has a baby face and skinny body, so he looks pretty young. But Lincoln was a different story. Ricky Whittle was very clearly a grown adult man compared to Marie Avgeropolous very much looking like a 16-year-old Octavia. So the appearances alone skeeved me out, and then adding the crazy Stockholm Syndrome layer to their story, which was a huge power imbalance, also squicked for me. I hear what you're saying about Bellamy being in a power position in the camp, but it was such a careless blip of "kids getting their rocks off" that it didn't trouble me the way a full-on, hearts-in-eyes, twu luv, depiction of what Lincoln and Octavia supposedly had did.
  6. Not the characters in the show (except maybe Bellamy, who was the very definition of overprotective yet oddly didn't have an issue with that), but the audience -- viewers, TV critics, etc. I seldom saw it mentioned in a review. But then again I guess when you have a main relationship on Pretty Little Liars between a 15 or 16 year old and her teacher that's lasted years and is sold as "real love"....maybe this was too tame in comparison to raise notice.
  7. They were; Raven and Bellamy weren't part of The 100 though. Raven went down later--she was a mechanic already--and Bellamy was a faux guard who stowed away to protect Octavia.
  8. I always thought it beyond strange that no one had an issue with a supposedly 17-year-old Octavia (who had lived the very definition of a sheltered existance under the floor) having a sexual affair with Lincoln...who was mid-to-late 20s easily. Even Bellamy never mentioned their age difference. And the fact that she started out as his prisoner. It always creeped me out. (But I never would have guessed Marie Avgeropolous is 30 IRL.)
  9. I wasn't fully paying attention last night (had to rewind to figure out what had happened with Michael) and totally missed Rose's return. That actress is really not very good (I'm perplexed at how she keeps getting good roles), and I'm not excited to have to sit through Rose's shenanigans portrayed by such a lackluster actress. So I hope the three-year jump means no Rose either. (Because when has she ever stuck around for years?)
  10. Yes, there is. I think that will further anger people. Supposedly there will be flashbacks to the grieving time, but to have a well-adjusted Jane who's already healed from this loss ... I dunno. I think this was bad narrative choices/execution. (And I don't particularly care for Jane/Michael or Jane/Rafael.)
  11. Yes, i was very confused when they decided to marry her off to Michael, because it rendered Rafael a rather useless part of the story. But I feel like people are going to be even more upset that they were lulled into a false sense of security with the way they handled it and the way they talked about Jane and Michael's love story (despite the hints about his dying breath). The show may be a telenovela, but Jane's a romance novelist and they totally broke the romance contract.
  12. I'm disappointed in this and not seeing anywhere near the potential all the critics did. It feels very Dawson's Creek redux yet with characters that aren't half as likable. Plus, maybe I'm shallow, but I can't see any universe where that unfortunate-looking creepy af Jason Blossom is the most popular guy in school--QB or no QB. **shakes head** It's really past time for us to meet Polly. Obviously she's going to have a larger role in this whole story.
  13. Yeah, ratings are SO high that even if it did have huge attrition each year, they'd be doing alright. It's at 2.6 in the demo right now, tied with The Voice and only behind Sun & Thurs night football for NBC. The next closest scripted show is only at 1.6 and it's the now relatively old and downward trending Chicago Fire. A current hit is a safer bet than unknown coming pilots that will likely overwhelmingly (given past years' results) not do well and get cancelled. Hits like This is Us, which isn't even procedural in any way, are very rare for network these days.
  14. But how on earth would Clarke recover from that? And do we think they would kill her off or leave her completely deformed? I can't buy that. I mean, I guess they could just say she recovered and looks the same magically but that'd be a pretty big cheat.
  15. There's some rather unbelievable spoilers (pictures of supposed sides from the scripts) about the end of S4 at @The100Leaked twitter. It would be pretty hard to envision a Season Five as Rottenberg has already teased if those come to pass.
  16. I'm watching that, too. But Speedman and Joshua Jackson on the same show, is like all my 90s fangirl dreams come true. Lol. (Assuming Josh comes back...and there's a plot for Cole...)
  17. Huh. She was the weakest link (among many) on MIOBI. Then she took a long acting hiatus to get married/have kids I think. Surprised to see her back.
  18. LOL! <3 If they add Scott Speedman to season 4, I will be definitely sucked back in. Imagine if S4 is just all Noah, all the time. I agree we technically don't have much reason to check back in with Helen, Cole or Alison at this point.
  19. Exactly! Everyone saying they can't blame Kody for not wanting to try to work it out, well, fine, I agree the blame can be shared and there's really nothing to salvage here it seems. But then why not put an end to the sham? They are already legally divorced, but a spiritual divorce (I guess) seems the next logical option. If you won't work on it, why not just move on rather than stagnating? If Meri is so much about just fixing and/or moving on, why isn't she demanding that from Kody too? Fear on her part, I'm sure, because as everyone pointed out, she'll lose everything if she leaves, especially her daughter. Mariah will never forgive her if she really does leave now. And he gets to just comfortably ignore her and still get everything he needs from the other wives, while Meri remains miserable and alone even surrounded by the crowd of their family. BLERGH. That being said, damn, those older kids really turned out well. Especially Logan, Aspyn, and Hunter (!) -- he's really grown up since entering the Academy.
  20. The Burning Bridge question was a bit of a headscratcher. I would think Kody is way too concerned with his image to say he wouldn't cross a burning bridge to save her (he would absolutely have to know how terrible that would come across), yet Robin had to basically bully him into saying he would. I think he was hung up on the idea of the bridge as some sort of overarching metaphor of where their relationship is right now though, due to that later answer about "nothing's on fire, we may need to find a way to cross the water..." or whatever. I hesitate to accuse Kody of all people of overthinking something but...that did kind of seem to be what was going on there. Either way though, so many forced questions about having hope/not having hope/crossing bridges and waters/making progress and it still couldn't be any clearer that they have no desire to resolve the impasse they're at--or Kody doesn't anyway--and that no one is leaving this marriage, they're just going to continue to be miserable or uninvolved and in a relationship in name only. I so wished the interviewer followed up on that part: "Is 'everything's just ok' enough for you for the rest of your life, Meri?"
  21. It's already been renewed for Season 4. https://t.co/ZfeUCZS4jh What a terrible narrative choice though to spend so much time with Juliette just to set up a metaphor for Noah. Joshua Jackson really got short shrift this season. And I'm really annoyed they basically glossed over Noah's complete MENTAL IMBALANCE THAT CAUSED HIM TO STAB HIMSELF IN THE NECK like it never happened. Plus, his parole officer is okay with him jaunting off to Paris? WTFE.
  22. Do you think that's Jenn Kaytin Robinson's ultimate intention to show the girls are turning into sociopaths (or psychopaths)? I'm genuinely curious because I haven't seen many interviews with her at all or much coverage of the show and I did wonder. My thoughts were that again, like Batman, regardless of what he does to extract vengeance on a target, that target has already been set up as a bad guy and you are supposed to root for Batman. I'm sure the show will always be a bit more nuanced and keep things complicated, with them crossing ethical lines, but for this season, they've always easily escaped real consequences (sometimes quite contrivedly). I know it's probably empirically wrong but I can't root against these girls. I just don't want them to get caught and punished.
  23. Seriously, it's really curious to me if the writers think these guys are charming. I think they definitely DO perceive Toby that way with his "king of romantic gestures" bullshit, but now... two out of two of Kate's suitors are incredibly aggressive. Is it a fat bias thing? Also the message that Kate only attracts fat dudes is NAGL. Then again---she's only ever around fat people and her family. So maybe if they gave her a real job or something to do besides dwell on being fat... sigh. And Kate would have been jumping through a lot of hoops to get her gastric bypass covered by insurance at the point where they're to scheduling. They showed none of that journey which could have been far far more interesting than all this ridiculous love life stuff. Also....what was the last thing that Kevin recited to Sophie about her being like his arm? Why did he spell out all the punctuation? That made no sense to me. He is so incredibly awkward for a dude who looks like that. Lol.
  24. What a note-perfect first season. Such a good show, and an important one. I watched with such a sense of trepidation that Jules and Ophelia would get caught and punished. But this is a superhero show, right? Batman is never caught and/or punished for what he does. I'm gonna/assume hope if we get another season that will be the case here. I think the fear is more real though because they're women and women are always treated to punishment. I did think it was surprising that the school security guy (Barton?) wasn't in the finale. Did he get dismissed? I'm so glad Harris is on the inside and gonna be their Bosley. I'd assume Tyler will also be taken into the fold and maybe Ophelia's guy too, next season. What was that closeup shot on something pink under a gas tank in the garage?
  25. Hehe, my thoughts exactly. This character was the exact opposite of his Longmire role. But seriously, Kate needs some time alone. (I do think if Adam Bartley looked more like Justin Hartley, people might not be so quick to say what a jerk he was. I mean he totally WAS a jerk, but I did think this kind of negging pickup scam is something super hot guys do all the time and get away with.)
