  1. Regarding Doctor Who I really enjoyed Chris Eccleston, liked Tennant, but got bored even with him. I don't get the show's popularity. It's not that well written, it's not that well acted, it's really over the top campy for a show that I'm supposed to take seriously at times, and for the most part I find it boring. I love that people are enjoying scifi and that because of it, we're starting to see it in the mainstream more, but I hate Dr. Who. I don't understand why all my friends love it. That being said, I do like the new actor for the Doctor so I might watch a few new episodes. I think part of me also resents the fact that it also keeps them from writing and doing Sherlock. While we're talking about British TV. I know that they're popular and win awards all the time, but I also know there's a lot of "high brow" hate for them. I really love Ant and Dec. Seriously, they're funny, they always seem to have fun with presenting, and on their show SNT they do cute skits and learn to do different things and compete against one another. They're not afraid to look dumb, pull pranks on celebrity friends, and they really just do look like best friends having the time of their lives. We don't have anything like them in the States. Our TV presenters are smug, self absorbingly serious (Ryan Seacrest I'm looking at you) or awkward and I'm more or less put off of US shows of the same nature because I find the hosts/presenters to be so annoying to watch. My husband is baffled as to why I watch BGT, IAC, or SNT because I don't watch and actually despise the US equivalents. I kind of wish they'd be able to be successful in the States even though I know it'll never happen. After a day of being wound up and stressed, sometimes I just want to watch unironic fun. Aside from never seeing Glee or DWTS before, and also correcting NCIS SVU to LO:SVU, I agree with you on every point. I think I liked CSI when it first started because it was kind of different. Now every single one of those shows are so cookie cutter it's ridiculous. Aside from jurisdiction things, I'm pretty sure you can transplant any character from one show to another show and it would make absolutely zero difference. Either that or they've decided to turn themselves into ridiculous character studies which doesn't make sense either because they do a terrible job mixing the two. I will say that I actually liked The Crazy Ones on CBS, but it's cancelled now so whatever. BBT is actually kind of insulting to people in STEM/geek culture imo. I never understood why DS9 was so underrated. People liked Voyager over DS9 and that boggled me. I think it's the only show that took Gene's vision, analyzed it, and decided there could be more to it than the perceived belief that the Federation was perfect, executing it perfectly. I love Picard and Sisko equally though, both great captains who were always on top form with whatever issues they were presented with. I think my main Star Trek UO is that I think the TNG cast as a whole was full of mediocre actors whereas DS9 had the strongest acting group. Aside from Sir Patrick and Brent Spiner, most "acting is necessary" parts of TNG made me cringe.
  2. Not only are they hacks, they're hacks who hate and have always hated everything about the shows. They never liked the direction the shows took and always have had their own ideas of the mythos and what should have had happened. Unless they've have a sudden rapid 180 on what they've thought, prepare to have everything we've loved for 17 seasons be destroyed. Regardless of how you felt about the movies, at least the Abrams Star Trek movies had shout outs and made an effort to say the shows were still canon.
  3. I think they at least need to have one major adult character who isn't quirky. All the "kids" in BMW were always a bit quirky to INSANELY quirky (later Eric), but I always thought the parents were pretty heavily grounded in reality. I don't necesssarily feel the same way here yet, maybe because it's Cory and Topanga and I know their quirky versions from BMW, they need to deviate the two of them into really normal really grounded people. I mean we didn't see much of Topanga, but I do see that Cory is still Cory. Which makes sense, but isn't quite what they need for this show. I do love how Riley is the perfect mix of Cory and Topanga. Heck, she even looks perfect for the part. Great casting there. Maya was a such a Shawn clone.
  4. I didn't think it'd get cancelled. What a shame. The only plus side I can think of is that now someone can cast James Wolk and Kyle Chandler in the same show.
  5. It's definitely becoming a thing. Started with The Talking Dead, they did it with Breaking Bad, and now this. I'm expecting a Game of Thrones one at some point. Or a Fargo one. The family unit from the day of the polygraph - from the house to actually taking it, was done extremely well. You could see that Dylan and Norma were going to support Norman regardless of the outcome. It says a lot about that little sweet messed up family.
  6. Emma. She was in every episode in season 2, but it seems like she was barely there. I hope they don't relationship Norman and Emma, just stay close friends. Just have her more involved with the Bates madness. The kiss they filmed tells me otherwise though.
  7. Solzhenknitsyn, check out Fargo on FX. In terms of "fab acting, dark humor, and high production values" it's got it all. Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thorton, Bob Odenkirk, Colin Hanks, Adam Goldberg, Oliver Platt, a brilliant new actress Amanda Tollman, Key&Peele later on, and more I can't think of...are all top notch. Dark humor very similar to the Fargo movie. A very Coen brothers look to the show (despite them being EPs in name only).
  8. Ukrainian food is delicious so they're lucky people. I'm still confused by the Christine & George storyline. Was that it? No ulterior motive? Was it just a way to rehash that bypass storyline AGAIN in season 3? (I haven't seen the movie, so I guess it plays a role in the movie?) I'm glad the drug storyline got wrapped up the way it did, I was getting tired of Zane. He was over the top stupid for what he wanted to accomplish. Jodie was disappointing. I thought by the way they introduced her, she'd be some very conniving, great, behind the scenes kingpin. Instead she just had sex with Dylan, couldn't make decisions, and ultimately died. At least with Dylan as leader, the drug storyline will fit in more with the main story. Surely he can use his weight as the new drug boss in town to manipulate the bypass somehow. The Norma/Norman scenes were great as usual. I did think that good-bye gift from Norman was actually pretty cute. Weird, but cute. So Norma told Norman what happened with his father. Given all that information about his blackouts I'm surprised he was so able to convince himself that he or a version of himself didn't kill Miss Watson. But I guess that's how DID works. Shame that Norma won't do what's right for her son. Poor Emma. Got sucked back into that crazy family. Run you poor girl, run.
  9. There was a terrible on after the season premiere and looks like they're doing it again for the season 2 finale. The host this time is Dave Holmes.
  10. Romero season 1 dealt with Norma with thinly veiled contempt. Except not very thinly and not very veiled. It was a very "oh God, this lady again." This season seems to be more friendship based. So more of a "oh Norma."
  11. I don't think Lane was ever dumbed down, but she was given the short end of the stick for every aspect of her character. Ended up going to a college that she hated because of her mom and ended up dropping out because it just wasn't for her. Got the band of her dreams only to end up giving it all up to raise her children while her husband got to live that dream. Spent her whole life hiding things from her mom, then hiding things from her bandmates (food & the money they got from touring), and probably having to hide things from her kids. Zach was just beyond belief dumb. Christopher was highly unlikeable. It's a shame Lauren and David had such great chemistry.
  12. With May starting tomorrow, it's time for the rewatch for season 2 to start. Establishing more mythology, meeting more alien "friends", and a little bit of back to the future.
  13. Have I missed anything in terms of George and his sister and why they're trying to get an in with Norma? I feel like there's always been more to it but they've just played up the disastrous Norma / George relationship. Norman's "NOOOOO" was so Star Wars like I couldn't help but laugh.
  14. May is coming around the corner. We still don't have a tag for season 2 for the rewatch thread title. We don't have to have one, but it'd be nice.
  15. Kyle Chandler is filming a new Netflix original series by the same people who did Damages. Given their track record, should be great.
  16. Aside from the name of the show, the accents, the dark humor, and the demeanor of some people - there's really no spoilers from watching the movie. It's a really great movie I highly recommend watching.
  17. With the "aw geeze's" added to the extra hammerings, that scene went from very tense and heavy to just dark comedy.
  18. Shrapnel from when Lorne shot Verne. I thought he took a look at what Lester had done from the top of the stairs and walked out the same way he came in. But because the camera was on Lester at that point, it's something that we didn't see. A really weird haircut for sure.
  19. Martin Freeman's "tour of the world"-accent aside, the show was really great. Lorne is such a walking agent of chaos. With all that black, he might as well death himself. Had the last cop not been Colin Hanks, I would have been scared for him. Why would you have a poster like that fish one in a basement? Is that a Fargo reference, or is it just there to be weird. The show is beautifully shot, almost an homage to the movie itself. It's also hilariously funny without being funny, just like the movie. The acting is fantastic. Along with Bates Motel and Hannibal, looks like great shows based on movies are the in thing right now.
  20. I realized that there wasn't really a place to just talk about the show. For instance, not sure if these would fit into a UO or any sort of best/worst category. The relationships in this show moved incredibly quickly. Max and Lorelei were together for a few months before they were engaged (after breaking up and getting back together). Same with Dean and Lindsay. Lane/Zach; Sookie/Jackson; Lorelei/Christopher; and Lorelei/Luke were friends long before their relationships but were also dating for a significantly short period of time before their engagements and/or marriages. Their engagements were so incredibly short as well (aside from L/L). Planning the core parts of the ceremony days before the actual wedding? Weird. Then add to that how many of the proposals were post argument/emotional upheaval. Sookie/Jackson right after their apartment argument Lorelei/Luke right after the situation with Rory and the yacht and her parents Lorelei/Max right after Max got into a pissing contest with Luke Lorelei/Christopher I don't remember much of that relationship since I hated S7 so much and only watched it once. But I think that was pretty sudden and pretty soon after the whole Luke thing. Dean/Lindsay - even that was pretty soon after the whole Rory/Jess thing and the fight at Kyle's house b/w Dean and Jess. Lane/Zach - Engaged immediately after making up from their breakup It almost seemed like a proposal was a good way to settle an argument or to feel good after an emotional low instead of it being ultimately because of love. Logan has a lot of hate (deservedly so), but at least his proposal was thought out and at a more normal juncture of their relationship.
  21. So the show really took the "more shirtless people" request seriously didn't it. It's so sad that Norma is being used and she doesn't even know it. Or maybe she does deep down but doesn't want to think about it. Nick Ford and the siblings are part of the same cartel? Because Norma didn't tell Nick about her intentions of running but he still gave her an endorsement. They've been adding a lot of undertones to the Norma - Sheriff Eyeliner relationship. I also liked the subtle jealousy in Norman's part when Norma is telling him about Greg. Olivia Cooke is better at hiding her accent than Freddie, but wow, Freddie can bring the creepy. There's even something off-putting about blacked out Norman. I too would have gotten the hell out of there after pissing Norman off like that. Even if it was a justified freak out. The Norman-Emma friendship hasn't crossed over to creepy yet, and I like that.
  22. Here's the first teaser they just released today for Girl Meets World.
  23. For anyone interested, here's the alternate finale they filmed.
  24. Emancipation. Just kidding. Death Knell is pretty great because it's Sam being chased by some crazy super soldier and she basically finds a way to keep herself alive until the very end. Punching Ba'al in the face was a pretty good scene.
