  1. Rewatched this again last night, and I realized that I really, really loved the Aldhani people singing and celebrating The Eye. I loved seeing them taking joy in The Eye and their ritual, even in the midst of imperial oppression.
  2. So glad I'm not the only one who made this connection. I thought the same thing as soon as I saw the Dhanis walking up from the Lowlands.
  3. My guess is Cassian didn't trust Skeen. Seeing how much of a long con Skeen had played with Vel and the rest of the crew, he probably thought I can't make a deal with this guy; he'll probably end up betraying me and taking all the money.
  4. I've been loving this show since the first episode, but this exceeded my expectations. I was on the edge of my seat and nervous for the whole episode. I knew some of the rebel crew wouldn't make it out, but I was still sad to see it happen. RIP Tamaryn and Nemik (poor, sweet soul). Is Cinta just on Aldhani permanently? Did not see the twist with Skeen coming (I sort of loved it when he said "I don't have a brother") Cassian shooting him was a shock. I thought for sure that Skeen wanting to take the money and run + Nemik dying would lead to Cassian sticking with Vel. And on a lesser show that might have happened, but not here. Skeen's remark about him and Cassian only knowing how to climb over people to get out of the hole definitely triggered the scrappy, me-against-the-world instinct in Cass. Skeen probably wasn't all that surprised at "Clem" shot him. Seeing the news of the heist slowly spread was thrilling but also a bit scary. I can just imagine the wrath the Empire is going to unleash in the wake of the robbery. I just hope they don't blame the Dhanis for being involved. Luthen taking a moment to celebrate was nice, but still stressed me out a bit. For a minute, I thought that customer was an Imperial spy that was onto the plot. Mon Mothma addressing a senate that was only half paying attention was way too real. The Eye definitely lived up to the hype.
  5. Add me to the group that's frustrated by the Harfoot storyline. It just feels like it hasn't moved all that much. I keep waiting for Nori and Poppy to strike out on their own. Because the other Harfoots aren't doing much for me. I'm guessing we'll get the reveal (or maybe just a hint) of who The Stranger is in the finale. I liked the Galadriel/Theo scenes, although I did keep wondering about the whereabouts of Bronwyn and Arondir. Felt bad for Elendil. I wanted to give him a hug when he started crying. I too wondered how the gravely injured Halbrand was riding off with Galadriel. Guess it's one of the many things I gotta hand wave on this show.
  6. I really want to like this show. I'm a QL head from way back. But I'm just not feeling it. Despite the setup of Ben hoping to leap home, I'm still not invested in the stakes of the story. I find Addison pretty boring and don't see any chemistry between her and Ben. I do find the supporting cast somewhat interesting. As for this episode, I liked the guest cast, especially the actor playing Ben-as-Danny's brother. Will give this a few more episodes.
  7. It's not an exaggeration to say that I cherished every moment of this episode. I am so glad we are getting a story that is allowed to breathe. Enjoyed seeing Cassian slowly win over the rest of the rebel group. I do wonder if revealing that he's being paid to work with the group will come back to haunt him. The scenes between Karn and his mom were delightful ("You might as well wear a sign that says 'I will disappoint you'") Seeing Mon Mothma's family it's no wonder she joined the rebellion.
  8. I enjoyed the last 2 episodes of the season. The resolution to Martine's and Lawrence's murders was satisfying. And I liked Khaya and Maria bonding and getting romantic. Hope this show is getting a second season.
  9. Before I finished watching this season, my Dad spoiled me that Will get's married. As I was watching the episodes leading up to the finale, I thought he'd been mistaken. There couldn't possibly be a wedding in the finale, I thought, because there's basically zero set-up happening. And yet, that's exactly what they did-lol Ok, show. Glad Mrs. C seems to be ok.
  10. I liked almost everything* about this episode. The villagers trapping the first set of orcs and bringing the tower down on them was pretty cool. When you have inferior numbers, you have to get creative. Also loved the Numenorians riding into the Southlands (timeline issues notwhitstanding-😆). When Adar remarked that maybe Galadriel's search for the evil she's hunting should've ended in her own mirror, I cackled. Galadriel's reaction had big a-hit-dog-will-holler energy. The vague wording of Halbrand's interaction with Adar means I still don't trust that dude, king or no. *As others have mentioned, no one - not Galadriel, not the Numenorians, not the Southlanders - checking to make sure the magic hilt was the real deal took me right out of the story. Which is a shame, because otherwise, I really enjoyed this episode.
  11. I also loved that Cassian chose the name Clem as his alias.
  12. The three-episodes-per-arc thing - and the sort of abrupt endings that come with it - will take getting used to. I found myself startled when this episode ended. I was getting all excited for the garrison heist, and then I was like "that's it!" Seeing Luthen transform to go back into his other life was fascinating. He almost looked like it hurt. Loved the scenes between Mon and Luthen. But then I always love to watch covert meetings between two wily operators. I know it's a trope of this genre, but I still loved how everyone in Vel's rebel group just despised the addition of "Clem" on the spot. Cool to see Eban Moss Bachrach as Skeen (that dude stays booked and busy) I'm guessing that not everyone in that group will survive the heist. I was also thrilled to see Anton Lesser as the ISB Major. His exasperation with his underlings was amusing.
  13. I'm enjoying Maria and Khaya's relationship, two old souls, who have weathered storms in their lives. Also love the relationship between Jessie and her family. When I first started watching this, I thought I would dislike the Hattie character, but she's ended up being a lot of fun.
  14. I'm wondering if The Stranger will end up being a wizard, but not Gandalf.
  15. Recently started this show, and I'm digging it so much. Nice to see Maria Doyle Kennedy in this, and I'm enjoying the rest of the cast as well - especially Kylie Fisher (Jessie) and Tony Kgoroge (Chief Khaya). And of course I am loving the food. I wanted to reach through the screen and grab a piece of that chocolate cake in episode 2!
  16. Thanks for the reminder! I've updated.
  17. I saw this a couple of days ago and I really liked it. The cast was amazing! Viola Davis was awesome as always, as was Lashana Lynch (have loved her since I first saw her in the short-lived Shondaland show, Still Star-Crossed). I've not seen Sheila Atim or Thuso Mbedu before, but they were both also great. The direction was also outstanding! Gina Prince-Bythewood brings this epic story to brilliant life. Was it perfect? No. I could've done without the Malik side plot. And the portrayal of the Oyo tribe kingdom was pretty one-dimensional. But overall, this story and these characters moved me. I have also been reading about the controversy surrounding the film's portrayal of the Agojie's participation in the slave trade. This article is the best one I've found so far: Sisterhood and Slavery in “The Woman King”
  18. Yes, every time she addressed someone as "child," it was terrifying.
  19. The seediness of the Pre-Ox Morlana Leisure Zone was definitely giving me The Expanse vibes.
  20. I'm not usually a big fan of that type of back and forth, but I loved it here. Timm was clearly one of those people who believes that the cops will only target "bad people." What other explanation is there for him running at them like that? Really sucks that Bix had to watch him be gunned down. The Cassian/Luthen scenes were easily my favorite part of the episode (and there was a lot to love about the episode as a whole). Luthen gave an effective recruitment pitch ("Don't you wanna fight these bastards for real") and we got some pew-pews! Also, I need to find a way to incorporate "Build your exit on the way in" into my lexicon.
  21. On my initial watch, I wasn't that into the flashbacks to Cassian's childhood on Kenari. But the second time around, I really liked them. They both gave needed context to his story and were excellent just as a Lord of the Flies style mini adventure. Karn makes me shake my head. What was that speech. Great job from Kyle Soller in the role. Stellan Skarsgard is one of those actors that when he shows up, I always know I'm in good hands.
  22. I always give series premieres a lot of latitude because they have to do so much setup and exposition. But with this series I was hooked in the first few minutes. When the episode ended, I was surprised it was over already. I have not seen Rogue One, and at best I can only be called a casual Star Wars fan, but I always say if you give me compelling characters and story, I'm in. Getting to see Cassian's life - his various hustles, his friends, his ex - was cool. I feel like the writers really gave me a character and not just an archetype. Bix seems cool. Her boyfriend not so much. B2emo (that name!) is adorable. Digging this so far.
  23. This show is absolutely stunning to look at. Like damn, that scenery gets me every time! Good follow-up to the last episode. I wasn’t sure if Halbrand was going to join Galadriel and Co., so that was a pleasant surprise. Loving Elendil and his dynamic with Galadriel. Her mock sword fight with the cadets was fun. The Harfoot story is moving pretty slowly. I wanna know who The Stranger is sooner rather than later.
  24. I really loved this episode - even more on rewatch. The Durin/Elrond/Disa scenes are a delight. And the big ending with the Numenorians deciding to join the elves in battle gave me chills. Really enjoying this show so far.
