I have neighbors that adopted the brother & sister that they were fostering. It happens.

If you are an avid follower of this show on social media, you probably didn't see or learn anything "new." I did enjoy the audition tapes of the main cast, mainly because we aren't often able to see the process.

The Annual Primetime Emmys - General Discussion
Aloeonatable replied to susannot's topic in The Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
To me, a show like This Is Us is a true ensemble program. Even though Sterling K Brown is one of five main roles, he was/is nominated as lead actor whereas Justin Hartley was considered in the supporting actor category. Milo Ventimiglia is "first on the call sheet" which would indicate a lead actor, so I guess that was the rationale for his nominations. In other words, I think they are considered for a category that they either deservedly belong in or where they have the best chance of winning the award. -
The Annual Primetime Emmys - General Discussion

Does anyone here know an actual Emmy voter? I personally don't see how they can watch all shows in contention for these awards. To me, it seems that the shows with the best buzz or that have the best chance of being noticed have amazing promotional campaigns. If you really think about it, awards shows are just marketing tools. -
I think they also have nominations in makeup, costume and music, so 8 noms in all

This Is Our Speculation Without Spoilers Topic
Aloeonatable replied to scarynikki12's topic in This Is Us
I am looking forward to watching Jack's Vietnam story and how and why Kevin goes there with Zoe. Jack, as this show has shown, had an enormous impact, in many ways, on his children's lives. I think Kevin wants to learn more about his father and Jack's addictions, which may have roots in his Vietnam experience. -
I don't mind seeing new characters being introduced in relationships with the Pearsons. We all have people coming in and out of our lives. New characters can give us new insights into the core characters. As for Jack, his story will never be complete just because his family seems to be moving on from the grieving aspect of his death. Taking my speculations on the Vietnam storyline to the appropriate thread.

Most actors sign 7 year contracts when they are in a series. Not that they can't renegotiate half way through the contract, but I don't think they can leave a show without penalties.

S02.E17: This Big, Amazing, Beautiful Life

Me too, though I do understand why some others choose to do so. I think viewers have to be patient with this show. All will be revealed eventually. I loved this episode. This show, besides being entertaining, can also be informative. -
Testing himself? Sometimes it is good to see how strong you are when confronted with the temptation.

But he has been dead since the beginning, so having seen his death and funeral does not change my feelings.

I thought this article was very interesting. http://www.nbc-2.com/story/37348125/why-we-see-ourselves-in-this-is-us

My sentiments exactly. I've never seen Jack as SaintJack. He is just someone who simply loves his wife and his children and someone who is loved by his children, wife and best friend. As many viewers on this site and other fan boards mention his impulsiveness, alcoholism, and general selfishness. I hardly would attribute those qualities to sainthood. I think the nature of the show's format makes it difficult to show any long term progression in his battle with the alcoholism. He had been attending AA meetings, called his sponsor when he needed to and kept busy to avoid drinking. What more do we need to see? He had fallen off the wagon, which we witnessed. I also think we have yet to see how Jack's flaws do effect his family negatively. I think that is yet to come.

When my father died, he had a 21 gun salute and taps played on a bugle (by a very close friend of his.) He was a World War II vet and is buried in a military cemetery. It could have been because I had a brother who was career military and a Lieutenant-Colonel at the time, though I think the cemetery offered that to all vets. My mother received the folded flag too.

Jack has been dead the whole time, and Milo has said in many an interview that he knew his character was dead in present day when he was hired, I think the show is dragging this out, but that is the nature of the business. I do feel sorry for those on the east coast.

I watch all of these shows, and do agree that all are well acted. I love the fact that TIU won this award because it is not a fantasy, science fiction or a period drama.

I watch awards shows, but strictly as entertainment. To me they are simply PR business. They bring eyes to the screens if they win awards.

I believe it was the second episode of the first season that we first learned of Jack's alcoholism. When he came home after spending time with Miguel at a bar, Rebecca told him that she wouldn't tolerate his drinking and neglect in "her" house. That was when we saw Jack promise to change for her and his family. That was the first time, but then he relapsed.

ASP & Daniel just won best comedy at the Golden Globes for "The Marvelous Mrs Maisel." Well deserved.

The UO thread is often the most popular thread on many fan boards, not just this one.

I don't recall anyone saying we would find out in the first few episodes, only that we would be given hints. I believe we will find out by the end of this season, maybe the episode that follows the Super Bowl?

I thought only single men could try to catch the garter, much like only single women try to catch the bouquet.

I was a stay-at-home mom for the first few years of our marriage. I always made our children's costumes, kept a neat house and cooked dinner every night. Not a hard thing to do, especially if the children were in school all day. Jack was a bit too much insisting that Rebecca make Kate's costume at that late date, but I don't see how that makes him unappreciative of Rebecca.

I have never been on Facebook, but I did get talked into getting a smart phone to receive and share pictures of my grandchildren. I always use to dress up for Halloween but only to give out the candy. My husband took the children trick-or-tweeting and I only remember one time when he dressed up. Our children grew up in the 70s/80s, and there was always a parent with a group of children even when the children were 10-12.

So now an unpopular opinion is that I still like this show.
