  1. I'm no HR expert, but I'm thinking this would be universally frowned upon - woman-arrested-employment-meeting-sheriffs-department
  2. I never considered myself to be one, still don't, just look at some things differently since Covid. One has to balance comfort with a will to persevere, lol. I don't spit into the wind either.
  3. A pandemic habit I picked up that I have and will continue, is putting on a glove (or grabbing a wipe/towel if glove not handy) before pumping gas. That one-armed bandit probably sees the worst humanity has to offer during the course of a day. 😝
  4. Website today shows a Brita and a Kirkland (Costco) brand only. Both essentially the same; 10c capacity, 2 filters, filter life indicators. K - 29.99, B - 42.99
  5. Not trying to bring down the room, but read this today, and thought it was so smart and thoughtful. We (at least I) tend to ask generic, almost unanswerable questions in times like this, almost hoping for a "no, I'm fine" response. Maybe. Not always, but sometimes? This is a better way to go. ************************************************************* Grief Groceries! I saw this letter today- as a funeral directors son, I have been around this for years. This is some of the best advice I have ever seen. I get it. Grief is a funny thing. It’s the time in our life when we most need help, and also the time when asking for help is so hard. Not because we are ashamed to ask for help, although that happens sometimes too. But mostly because our brain just sort of shuts down. When my Dad died, I looked functional. But I wasn’t OK. Not at all. And when the news got out, the ton of people flooding me with calls, texts, and DM’s was overwhelming. I really couldn’t function. I sat on the swing in our yard and just stared into space. People called and asked what they could do to help. I had no idea. “Well, anything you need at all, let me know, OK?” “OK”. They hung up. I stared into space some more. I had no idea what to do. What I needed. I didn’t even know what to ask for. Then a friend sent a text. This friend had met Dad once but didn’t really know him. But still, she knew I was hurting. I saw who it was and almost put the phone down without reading the text, but I saw the message and it stopped me: Will you be home at 8:30 tonight? What’s weird is this friend lives 12 hours away from me. Yes, I replied. “K.” 10 minutes later, she said, “Instacart will be there at 8:30. Open the door for them.” “What?” “Grief Groceries.!!” When Instacart showed up, they put two large bags of groceries on my porch. Frozen pizzas. Ice cream. Oreo cookies. Tinned soup. Stouffer’s lasagna. A gallon of milk. Like that. Things I could heat up if I needed a meal, or pig out on if I needed fat and sugar. Sometimes, you just need to eat half a box of Oreos. Notice she didn’t ask if I needed any food. I would have said no. She just asked if I would be home. Grief groceries. Another friend, who lives out of town, asked Renee to name a restaurant near our house where we like to eat. There is a local chain near our house that is sort of a deli. When we eat supper there, we spend about $25. Renee told her the name of the place. An hour later, there was a gift card in my inbox for $250. Yes, that is a lot of money, and I understand not everyone can do that. But the wonderful thing was that because it was enough for multiple meals, we didn’t try to save it for “the right time”. We ate there that night, and take out from there several times a week for the next month on nights when I just didn’t have the spoons to cook. Both of those gift-givers knew something I didn’t know – that when you are grieving, you don’t want to make decisions. No, that’s not quite it: You can’t make decisions. You hit decision fatigue really fast. So, I guess what I’m saying is, don’t ask grieving people to make big choices or decisions. “How can I help” is a big choice. But “Can I take the kids this afternoon so you can have some time to yourself” is a much smaller one. “Will you be home tonight?” is a small choice. “What restaurant do you like” is a small decision. Just showing up to cut their grass because you noticed it needed cutting is loads better than asking, “Do you want me to cut the grass?” Or, “I’m going to Target. What can I get you while I’m there?” is better than “Can I run any errands for you?” It won’t always be like this. If you stick around, eventually they will surface and ways to be helpful will make themselves known. But in the first few days, especially, it helps to remove as many decisions from their plate as you can!” Original Words from: Hugh Hollowell Jr.
  6. I will grant that today's golfers have taken fitness and training to a level not seen in the Palmer/Nicklaus era, or even the generation in-between, but for the most part, technology and equipment is to be credited for the changes in results. To expect decades-old tracks to hold the same challenge is unralistic, and would cost millions to alter. Noise is being made about taking somthing off the golf balls, and perhaps that's the way to go, along with maybe mfg 'woods' with heads smaller than cantaloupes. I know, won't happen. "Spectators demand..." and all of that. I'm an outlier; I get no joy in watching kids screw thmselves into the ground in an effort to outdrive each other. For me, it's shot creation skills and putting that make it interesting. Unrelated peeve - can the "get in the hole!!" idiots please find another sport to follow or just shut up? Your drunk friends aren't impressed that it's your voice on the teevee, nor is anyone else. Right up there with commenting "first" after an internet post. Watch yourselves, natural selection is coming for you.
  7. If you got 30+ yrs out of a shingle roof, you're ahead of the game already. I know it sucks, had to do it in 2019 (23 yrs), and I'm still po'd about it, lol.
  8. And the tank tops, and the spider lashes, and... It's a television show ffs, not a trip to the gym. Stop auditioning, you've got the job (inexplicably).
  9. DH's favorite summer salad; roma tomato, vidalia onion, fresh basil, EVOO, balsamic and tarragon vinegars, lightly sprinkled Italian seasoning. Delizioso!
  10. Ordered based on ^this (no pressure). Need to be able to hear my phone ring while mowing, in case my DH gets in trouble or needs me for something. Even on vibrate in my pocket, I just don't hear/feel it.
  11. Perhaps there is a local beekeeping org or apiary group that could assist you? Maybe a city/county extension office or wildlife org? I'm riffing here. ANYTHING but spraying.
  12. Perhaps Karma is at play. Wishing serious injury and celebrating death can do that sometimes.
  13. We have been Comcast users for longer than I care to think about (as long as they've existed and bought out whichever bottom-feeding Co. before them), and one day it just became known that they were providing Peacock+ as a perk, maybe 2 years ago?, though I can't say for certain. I didn't know about the bait and switch until we received the email (to my husbands email, which he never saw, I was on his phone...) Anyhoo, we'll obviously pay the $3 bux (or find a better deal if I can), but I WILL be calling Comcast to severely downgrade our cable in the next week, as I know that our money will be going to streaming services, like it or not. (yes JT, I know THEY will be happier for it).
  14. Yes, I know. Don't they raise it 3$ bucks monthly anyway? (sarcasm font). And I know JT, we should just take it and shut up about it.
  15. Predictably, Comcast/Xfinity notifies us that they will no longer provide Peacock+ at no charge as part of their outrageously priced cable subscription. Will be $2.99/mo after June something-or-other, for 12 months. After that it's anyone's guess. Sky is the limit isn't it?
  16. On my screen, it's the post directly above mine. Stay strong @Mondrianyone! 😄
  17. Between the bat and the koala 🐻, no body profile though Same one on this site, and easier to see imo, though more scrolling - getemoji.com
  18. I'm at the Michigan/Indiana border and our weather reports have been highlighting the "Canada wildfire smoke" for several days. Which uh, um, makes it tough to concentrate at work. Yeah, yeah that's it. 😉
  19. I've also seen a few promos for viewing Yellowstone on Paramount+ lately.
