  1. Could I have an an 'o' please?
  2. Another one against Toby Leo - 1 Josh - 2 CJ - 3 Jed - 4 Sam - 5
  3. I would go with the former - i.e. move onto the next round now; lurkers can have their chance then. Your rating system idea sounds intriguing, and I would certainly participate
  4. Wonderful news! I've missed the show so much, and never thought a follow-up would ever see the light of day. Bring it on!!
  5. Tough call, but I gotta say "Adios, Charlie and go watch some girls' softball!"
  6. I am not overly keen on cocktails, but I do like Jack Dan on the rocks, or perhaps Southern Comfort neat. For wine, I will always go Jacob's Creek (preferring white over red as the latter gives me headaches) And for beers, a bottle of San Miguel always hits the spot on really hot sunny days
  7. I have one or two major transitions in my life thus far. The first was my parents decision to emigrate from my natural home of Bloemfontein, South Africa, and to start a new life in England (my father's decision via a really good job offer). I was only 11 or 12 at the time, and really didn't understand why we needed to move to such a remote country. It also meant leaving my school, my friends and relations, the lovely weather and the vast size and natural wonder of South African compared to the relatively small and densely populated British Isles. Took me 2 years and plenty of arguments and hissy-fits with my parents before I finally adjusted to a British way of life. I still hope to move back home some day soon, but for the time being I will gain some work experience and some qualifications before heading home My other transition was finally telling my parents of my sexuality at the age of about 14/15. They were both quite disappointed when I brought girls home rather than boys. And this resentment lingered until I was 18, and only then did things change because i went to university for 3 years and I enjoyed the single-life without my overbearing parents getting all judgemental over me. Fortunately, time is a great healer, and they have both accepted me for who I am and what I like, which has certainly taken a huge burden off of my shoulders. Of course I have no idea what they will think should I ever marry my current partner. But that is for another day.
  8. Percy and Mrs Landingham. Great shame Kathryn Joosten decided to leave the show so early, as she was perfect as the President's Executive Secretary.
  9. I share your fear and loathing of all things ironing! So much so that I get someone else to do that for me on a weekly collection basis. I am not all that bright when it comes to washing my clothes either, sometimes getting my whites mixed with my coloureds and resulting in rainbow-effect smears on my light blouses and skirts etc. But its buttons and zips where I always fall down, especially when rushed - I mean how difficult is it to button a blouse in perfect symmetry? Not me! I will always have a spare button or spare eyelet out; or those awkward moments when I have returned from from the ladies' restroom and I haven't fastened my skirt correctly, or worse, I have part of the back of my blouse either caught up in the zipper, or hanging over my skirt - so onlookers know exactly where I've been! Oh and I'm not good with food either! Again how difficult is it to shovel food into a mouth (especially a big one like mine, lol) Invariably there will be spillages, that will land in the most glaringly visible places on my blouse, and will stain and smear as soon as you try to brush it off! First world problems I guess, lol
  10. I fancy some home-made chicken tikka masala tonight. I could order a takeaway from the local curry house, but that would far too fattening to be honest. So have put together some skinless chicken thighs (taste better than breast imo), ginger, paprika, coriander, garlic, onion, red chilli, a mild curry powder, chopped tomatoes, chopped almonds, Garam Masala; a splash of coconut milk and zero-fat natural yogurt. And Basmati rice to go.
  11. A real bugbear of mine is how the media always fish for "big" fatality numbers when it comes to a major disaster. Reporters asking the emergency services "How many are dead?", "Are we talking double figures?" And then we have the subsequent headlines suggesting "Over ### dead!", but then when you actually read the article (or read another source), that number is purely speculative rather than officially confirmed. Lousy and sensationalist journalism with little or no accountability
  12. I just can't leave Sara Walters alone, and have now bought another couple of books of hers beginning with "The Night Watch", set in London during WWII, and the inter-relationships between 3 women and a man during the constant air raids, death and terror in the streets of the capital. A slight departure from the usual full-blown lesbian dramas she writes. Hopefully it will be as just as good.
  13. I love running, especially out in the countryside where the air is so much cleaner and fresher; and everywhere is quiet and peaceful compared to urban craziness where I live. I have a motorcycle, which I use primarily for touring up and down the country with a couple of other bikers - we usually just pitch a tent out in the middle of nowhere, and spend a couple of days hiking, drinking and generally having a relaxing time out there. We sometime stay up really late and look at the night skies for the constellation, planets, galaxies etc. I love baking/cooking, and DIY, but am pretty useless at handicrafts, sewing, needlework, drawing, painting etc. I can play acoustic guitar even though I can't read music; I certainly cannot sing or dance very well either.
  14. I love re-watching the "Airplane" films, along with "The Naked Gun" trilogy of films, if only because I love Leslie Nielsen's dead-pan humour. I also get a kick out of watching the original "Evil Dead 2" and "Evil Dead 3" with Bruce Campbell - the gore and violence is so over the top as to make the entire viewing experience a fun-filled-action-fest rather than being truly scared. I will also give the Bridget Jones trilogy of films an outing from time to time. I love romcoms, and Bridget Jones is one of the standout films in my book, even though all three are a tad silly (law of diminishing returns) - but all have great feel-good factors. And finally there's the "Die Hard" films, and more so the sequels. All rather silly and not really my cup of tea, but when I have friends round they usually call for a Bruce Wills film, and invariably it's going to be a Die Hard. oh, and don't call me Shirley! lol
  15. Nancy Will Donna - impervious no longer... maybe!
  16. Am new to the show but have been spurred on by friends and forums such as this. So will be watching S1 later this evening and will be looking forward to watching WG perform (I last saw him in The Shield, I think). Let the rollercoaster begin!
  17. BLADE RUNNER 2049 - "Time to Live" Featurette Latest BR49 update, with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, along with the usual talking heads - Scott, Ford etc. Due for premier October 6th
  18. Our Sun will eventually run out of Hydrogen and subsequently expand in size to become what is called a "Red Giant". So big will the Sun become that it will engulf its nearest planetary neighbours - Mercury and Venus (there is some scientific debate whether it will also "swallow up" planet Earth) During these death-throes (over several million years), it will turn Nova by shedding its outer layers and eventually will shrink in size to become what is known as a "White Dwarf" star (unlike a more massive star that when it dies goes SuperNova and just explodes almost out of existence) The good news is that this isn't likely to happen for at least 4.5 billion years
  19. I fancy a bit of science fiction this week - something easy on the mind, but engrossing as well. So have swished through my ebook library and gone with Isaac Asimov's "Caves of Steel" This is one of his early Robot novels that would soon morph into his Empire & Foundation books. Not sure if I'm ready to go down that particular road as they're more of a challenge. But I think "Caves of Steel" and the subsequent follow-up "The Naked Sun" will keep me amused for the next 3 or 4 days.
  20. Well since it's Sunday, and my parents will be coming round any time soon, I will be cooking a good old traditional British Sunday dinner - Roast Beef, with all the trimmings (roast potatoes, mixed veg, new potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire Pudding, beef gravy and English mustard)
  21. "Rush: Behind The Lighted Stage" (2010) Being a bit of a Rush fan (Canadian rock band going back to the late 60s early 70s), a friend of mine recommended I watch this documentary about their careers, how the three guys met up and "clicked", the highs and lows etc etc, interspersed with the usual concert clips, soundbites from other "appreciative" musicians - Gene "Kiss" Simmons, in particular; and all the usual copy & paste stuff you always find in these "a history" rock-docs. But to be honest there's nothing really new here; nothing that most Rush fans didn't already know. And for non-Rush fans, you're not really missing anything. It was okay, but nothing special.
  22. I a not a good or tidy dresser! More often than not, when I am late for an engagement I will grab the first thing in my wardrobe (closet), and not really think of things like colour-coordination, occasion, freshness etc. Instead I will just grab it, give it a shake, put it on and I'm out the door! But this has caused no end of embarrassing/awkward moments - i.e. blouse or skirt buttons not done up correctly, or not at all! skirt zips at half-mast; dark underwear and light tops; totally inappropriate t-shirts!!! mixed shoes both in design and/or colour; forgetting to put on my second stocking!! forgetting to tidy up on the lipstick or eye shadow; forgetting the other ear ring; going out with a comb left in my hair etc.... I like to think I am mildly intelligent & civilised, but when it comes to the simple task of getting dressed, it's totally beyond me sometimes :(
  23. From memory I have only watched the final 2 or 3 episodes once or twice in all the years of watching the show (if I was really being geeky I would say I have watched seasons 1-4 roughly nine times over the last 5 or 6 years; season 6 & 7 probably around twelve times - and when I say Season 6, I really mean everything after the first 6 episodes.) But those last three episodes of S5, I just cannot, CANNOT watch!! They're appallingly bad on so many levels that I just end up shouting at the TV in consternation & despair. Even as standalone episodes, they're pretty horrid, and I very much doubt I will ever get to view them again in my lifetime (unless I'm drunk, drugged or tortured, lol)
