Being a Friday, it's usually quite traditional here in England to have Cod fillet and chips (fries), from the local Fish & Chip shop. And that's exactly what I am going to be doing in the next 30 minutes. Simple pleasures :)

Another vote against Josh, but now things start getting tricky. Leo CJ Jed

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
Zola replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
I visited Japan a couple of times, and in certain hotel rooms the flush system is actually 2 or 3 buttons embedded into the floor rather than the wall. You just step on the appropriate button and it's done! Another paradox about not wanting to use the wall mounted flush system by hand, is that the user will then touch the door handle to get out of the cubicle and then touch the tap to wash their hands, probably unaware that both the handle and tap could carry the same amount of germs as the flush button. -

A bit of a delicate subject matter, but one that really is a major peeve, and has been for a number of years. And I'm talking about the appalling state of some ladies restrooms either at places of work, eateries, pubs, clubs, shops and sometimes even gymnasiums. I am not going to into specific detail for obvious reasons, but like OMG! what do some women actually do in those cubicles? Sometimes I have to pity the cleaners who have to "clear up" afterwards. Fortunately I have only come across a relatively small number of truly horrific restrooms, but nonetheless I am still extremely wary about entering a cubicle even if it appears to be spotlessly clean! -
No Sleep Tonight, Then: Horror Movies
Zola replied to miles2go's topic in Everything Else About Movies
I am not a big fan of horror films, especially those that go overboard on the blood, guts and violence (usually against women). So mainstream films like The Descent, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hostel, Halloween, Friday 13th, Wrong Turn etc. I just tend to avoid. That said, I have quite enjoyed The Thing (1982), Saw (but not the awful sequels), Evil Dead 2, Dawn of the Dead (1978). For the most part because these films either have a decent story, or the gore is so completely OTT that it comes across as campy rather than down right scary. However, I prefer my horror to be more psychological rather than visual - films like The Shining, The Exorcist, The Others, The Haunting (1963), Repulsion, The Sixth Sense, Psycho, Ringu, Les Diabolique, Silence of the Lambs and Don't Look Now - will always get my vote, and make for great creepy TV late at night just before bedtime. -

Carbon Based Lifeforms, and their debut album from way back in 1998 - "The Path" The two guys in this group are both Swedish, and I only got to know them through word-of-mouth. They're primarily in the genre of ambient fusion/chillout. Very easy on the mind after a stressful day; or background sounds when you're trying to concentrate on something. Not everyone's cup of tea perhaps, but they certainly help my mind drift to a better place for an hour or so.

Dust! I realise dust is just a fact of modern life, but it really is an ongoing pain! I can clean and polish my rooms on Monday, and come the following weekend, there's that familiar gossamer layer of dust already forming on the most visible of things, i.e. TV screens, dark wood bookshelves, desks and tables, and a whole lot of other things. I just get the feeling I'm just moving dust around when I do do the cleaning & polishing - it just hangs in the air ready to fall just as soon as my back is turned. Pity they can't invent a permanent dust terminating machine, lol -

Actually, after re-reading my last post and noticing that I quoted an episode title almost verbatim, I think I am turning into a Wingnut nerd or something!

It is going to be hugely entertaining figuring out who our guy is going to be at the end of the game! in my case its not CJ or Jed. As much as I love CJ for being the most prominent (and at times outspoken) women in the West Wing, things really did fall apart (to quote an episode title), when she suddenly became CoS. And even though she proved herself capable, she was no Leo! And Jed just became a bit an angry old man come S6, and never really recovered. It was if Abby was right - he should have stood for one term. But alas it wasn't to be.

I would pretty much agree with that. Here in the UK, the press focus in UK casualties first, which I suppose in a moral sense it could be justified given that its in the national interest. But if there are no British fatalities some media outlets move down the pecking order, with Americans, Europeans, Asians and everyone else. So you could have a main headline here saying "2 Britons killed in shooting" and then a small story buried way down the page saying "200 Syrians killed in bomb outrage" From an editorial point of view, which is more news worthy? -
beat me to it! Well done :)

CJ would have been my golden gal, but then season 5 came along and all of a sudden she "jumps off a cliff", and it all went very dark for me after that.

I have a feeling..... Could I have an E please?

Yes, CJ is the clear favourite thus far; but as she said "I'm going against the sisterhood!" and I have my own favourite. :)

Here in the UK I used to watch the likes of Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson, Marco Pierre White, Nigel Slater and even Mr Angry himself, Gordon Ramsey. With the exception of Oliver most of these chefs cooked fairly elaborate foods, that would probably justify a large social gathering rather than just a couple of people. Jamie Oliver was fairly easy on the eye, although his preparation of food was a bit roughshod at times. But he impressed me a great deal to the point of buying a couple of his best-selling recipe books, and I learnt my trade from those. And now I absolutely love cooking; there is something hugely awesome about preparing and cooking a meal; coupled with that 5 minutes of anxiety when your guests sit down to sample your offerings!
