  1. I'm catching up with Seasons 5 and 6 on Netflix. I love this show!
  2. I didn't care for Brenda either, though she probably never had a chance with those parents, but I loved her in Muriel's Wedding too. One of my favorite films! I also liked Patricia Clarkson, who played Ruth's sister. I don't remember whether The Green Mile or Pieces of April were before or after the series ran, but she is awesome in both films.
  3. I still have scrunchies ? I don't remember too much about the clothes. Miranda's russet dress when she was sitting with Steve at Scout made her coloring look lovely. Carrie wore a lovely greenish (seafoam) dress when she was in Paris with Aleks. Samantha looked great in primary colors, like a royal blue jacket and skirt. And Charlotte was lovely in her black bridesmaid dress. But I loved all of Charlotte's outfits.
  4. I just wonder how Miranda ever made partner in a Manhattan law firm AND had a social life. That is almost like science fiction. But she was always the funniest of the four. I yelped with joy when I later saw "Little Darlings" on VHS and recognized her! I grew up in a neighborhood full of Steves (Queens, not Brooklyn), so he was my favorite guy on the series. He was exactly what Miranda needed.
  5. Those posts were an interpretation of Harry's behavior, as was yours. No need to take it personally.
  6. I think you're right. Shortly before the wedding Charlotte tells the girls that she and Trey hasn't slept together yet and they gave her the "don't do that" look. So yeah, I remember before the wedding Charlotte was upset that Trey "couldn't get it up." Sorry! ?
  7. Oh my God! That's the line that gets me too! It sounded so natural. But I laugh when she says the most outrageous things with such panache: "No smoking in bars? Next thing, there'll be no fucking in bars!"
  8. Yes, that was horrible; suddenly the great guy was a prick. Was there a writers' strike or something during that season.
  9. I thought they waited for the wedding night because idiot Charlotte thought it would be more romantic.
  10. I've been bingewatching SATC for the last few days. I think Sam is my favorite character. My husband loves her. Which makes sense, I guess.
  11. No, I think she had had enough of SJP, and decided enough already. I'm #TeamKim too.
  12. Argh. I never detested Carrie more than when she keep braying "YOU HAVE TO FORGIVE ME!" at Aidan, so she could get back into his "nook." He should have pushed her out the window.
  13. Did you know that the story of "Sybil" was debunked? As far as I can remember, the therapist fed the stories to Sybil (I forget the patient's real name). The therapist became rich and famous and the patient ended up going into hiding. There was a book about it. But the Sally Field/Joanne Woodward miniseries was great!
  14. Yeah, I don't like that dad at all, but he is probably in the habit of thinking everything turns to ****. Most of the families on that show seem to have unhealthy dynamics. That could just be editing, but they don't come off as likable people.
  15. I think he would be in a lot of pain all over, with all the stress on his connective tissue/fascia. But yeah, God knows how his testicles have adapted to his weight.
  16. Omg, I am creeped out by the texture of honeycomb! I have no idea why the pattern made by all the little cells grosses me out.
  17. I first saw the show while Coven was being aired, and I didn't care for the Southern Gothic cliches and the superhormonal female-dominated storyline. Freakshow was the first season I saw that I liked (I'm sorry, I know it doesn't get much love), probably because of Evan Peters and Finn Wittrock. Hotel was a bloody mess, except for Dennis O'Hare (he's great in all of them! How could I not have noticed him before AHS?) and Sarah Paulsen. I didn't bother watching past the first episode of Roanoke. I finally bought the first and second seasons on Amazon, and I enjoyed them immensely. But I guess my first love, Freakshow, stayed with me. I don't think I will persevere with this season. I spend too much time on Twitter and I'm all "politicsed" out. But happy viewing, everyone!
  18. Abby is the Queen of Inappropriateness, so I wouldn't put anything past her. And yeah, she sees Nia as an "ethnic" dancer. I remember when Nia was still a little kid. Of all the dancers in a routine, she dressed Nia in an animal-skin costume with a HUGE Afro wig. Holly's face said it all. Misty is beautiful. I haven't seen ABT in years, so I never saw her in person, but there is always YouTube. The ads she does make her look muscular, but I saw her as a guest judge on SYTYCD, and I was struck by how petite she really is. Lovely dancer. I don't know if Abby is racist or not, but she should give Nia some different solos.
  19. I think they work on cruise ships, Disneyland, and local theater productions. I'm sure some ended up going to better schools and landing gigs here and there, but she didn't make them stars. Sia made Maddie famous. From what I've seen of "Sister, " Sia may be the unmaking of Maddie.
  20. Now I know what the Canadian characters Terrance and Phillip are talking about when they say "Kraft Dinner. " Apparently someone in Canada calls it that! If it helps anyone, I think the story takes place in what used to be Maine. Close enough to Canada.
  21. I think Whatever faults Trump has, I doubt he has any interest in creating a state religion. He doesn't seem all that religious to me. I think he panders to Christians, but that is different. I think Hulu made Gilead racially diverse because that is what TV casts look like these days. It would have looked the same in 2012. I may be cynical, but I think Hulu wanted to scare as many women as possible. But I've lived too long and have too much faith in American institutions (as well as in her people) to buy into the hype surrounding this show. The book was better, but the book is almost always better, IMO.
  22. I think they are either reassigned or they get to become Econowives or Aunts or Martha's. I think their reward is not getting shipped off to the Colonies where, depending on the luck of the draw, you could end up picking tomatoes or cleaning up toxic waste. I didn't read this entire thread, but when Atwood was writing there was no Internet as we know it. Not sure whether I had to specify my gender when I signed up for it. Is it only me, or is Serena Joy beautiful in the Hulu series? Reminds me of Sharon Stone a bit.
  23. I'm catching up, so I haven't gotten through all the episodes. I think I'm on Season 5. I don't mind spoilers because I've already read a bunch elsewhere. But here goes: My favorite episodes are both parts of "Stress Relief" and "Andy's Play."
  24. They refer to the handmaids as whores because they are never-married mothers, or moms in marriages in which one or both parents had previously been divorced. They all were considered to be adulteresses under the state religion, and therefore "whores." Their demonstrated ability to have children made them Handmaid material. Better than being sent off to The Colonies, I guess.
  25. I can't remember how many hours I've seen of him. Seems like 30.
