These Spoilers Suck: Bitter Speculation About SPN Spoilers
Wayward Son replied to catrox14's topic in Supernatural
LMAO Dabb, if you want to broaden the shows viewpoint then make one of the many females who have starred a regular. Don’t use the “they need to save the show from itself” as justification for your spinoff. That is such weird logic. Why not just say “we feel there is much more to tell of these women’s stories and we feel the best way to do it is through a spin off where they’re front and centre”. That’s reasonable to me. They want to expand on their POV and couldn’t do so enough on the mother show where they’d always have to be secondary to Sam and Dean. -

Primarily the bit in bold. It’s a personal issue. I’ve encountered too much of people just getting jobs because their parents/cousin/spouse happens to work for a company to feel anything but disdain for people behaving in such a manner. I’m going to make this my last post on the matter since I think we are just going to go round in circles. I think it’s a dick move on the shows part, other people think it’s great and something to be celebrate and others fall in between. I don’t think anyone will change anyone’s stance so YMMV. -

I never said I didn’t believe it. I said I don’t believe Robert Singer suggested for any reason other than the fact she’s Jensen’a wife for the reasons I said above. But yeah I’d say agree to disagree is the best option. -

Acting is a pretty fickle world as many who were much bigger than Danneel in their hay day have learnt so a long time has passed by tv standards since One Tree Hill. The main point I was trying to make is that IMO it would be highly unlikely that any other show (where she isn’t married to one of the leads) would think of her, an actress who hasn’t had a long lasting role in a show since 2009, when considering who to give a role. I couldn’t imagine other CW shows like Arrow, The Flash or Crazy Ex Girlfriend going like “hey, I know who we could cast... Danneel from that CW show which ended eight years ago”. On the other hand, I’d say Day had actually been Jensens cousin I’d be more open to the idea its more than nepotism because she has a strong current presence in her own right. ETA: As far as I know Jensen, Misha and Jared all auditioned and got the roles that way. None of them were hand picked by the producers and got to skip all of that stuff so I don’t really see how the comparisons are apt. -

Yes Bob Singer was interested in hiring her. I don’t find it surprising he’s an advocate of nepotism considering the fact he’s been doing the same with his wife for years now. And like I said it’s not as though she’s a big name star like Felicia Day or Mark Sheppard that most shows would eagerly hire. -

Jensen pretty much admitted at a convention Danneel said to him it’d be nice to be on the show, he mentioned it to Singer and he made things happen. And it’s not like she has ever been a big name, like say Felicia Day or Mark Shepard, that shows are eager to hire. -
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the ratings fall the last two to three seasons was less to do with the shows quality and more to do with viewers falling out of the 18-49 demo.

Finals are in! The show adjusted up to a 0.6 :) There was a slight change in viewers from 1.732 million to 1.74 million.

To be fair Genevieve didn’t get her part because she was Jared’s wife. They met on set and fell for each other. I think Ruby was always intended to be evil and written out once season 4 ended. I’m glad that they didn’t change that and prolonged her stay just because she and Jared fell for each other. So I don’t think we need a similar arc for Danneel to “maintain balance” or whatever. -
I think we’ll get one of - Dean/Jo - Sam/Jo - Cas / Jo It depends on how much the writers want to mess around with them. I’d be very surprised if they resisted the urge to hook her up with one of the three. I’m not including Mark P or Alexander in this since I’m not sure if they know Danneel, while Jared and Misha are both said to be good friends with her and obviously Jensen’s her husband.

Hope this is the right place to put this. Friends of mine are considering going to the Supernatural Convention in Birmingham during May (sadly I’m too broke to go with them :( ). They’re trying to decide between getting gold tickets and silver tickets. What are the differences between them? I know Gold ticket holders get to see the Gold J2 panel and they get better seats. Are those the only additional perks of being Gold over silver?

Again, this isn’t about the characters reaction to it. This is about the shows overall depiction of chastity and the reasons people choose to live such a lifestyle. I’ll agree that Nancy was a great example of someone who chose that lifestyle because she felt it was best for her. However, since that was ten years ago and under a completely different set of writers it doesn’t make me feel any more charitable to the shows current attitude towards it. As I said in recent years we have been given Suzy who only turned to celibacy due to shame and self-loathing. Then when someone makes her feel better about herself she turns away from it again. While with Sister Matthias it was something she simply did as a last resort because everything got too much. Now if they were to counterbalance these examples with people more like Nancy who chose that lifestyle because they felt it was best for them rather than it being a result of shame, self-loathing or escapism then I’d find it tolerable, but since they don’t I find it overly preachy. And it’s this negative attitude towards celibacy that makes me think S13 spoilers

I didn’t say Dean was mocking. I said that IMO the show tends to send out the black and white message that “Casual sex = good, healthy and normal. Chastity = bad, repressive, unhealthy and questionable”. It’s overly preachy and insulting only the preaching is in the opposite direction from traditional preaching on this subject. For instance later in the conversation you’re quoting her reason is given as. SISTER MATHIAS Well [sighs] in my case, I felt I had no choice. My life had become painful. There was hopelessness. I felt I had to find something larger than myself to focus on. As I said IMO a chaste life be it in the “sex before marriage” sense or for religious reasons is consistently portrayed as a negative thing. Why couldn’t Suzy have simply been one of those women who want to save the intimacy of sex for marriage? Why did it have to be portrayed as something repressive and wrong? Why couldn’t Sister Matthias have simply been a woman of faith who wanted to live her life by it? Why did it have to be simply because she felt she had no choice. Allowing depictions of people who chose to live a celibate life for legitimate personal reasons isn’t going to suddenly devalue the life choices of those who don’t choose to be celibate.

realised this post was better suited to all episodes thread.

We can agree to disagree on the episode. I consider it a horrible, unbalanced episode for reasons I gave and what @BoxManLocke added and you don’t. One final thing I willing add, and don’t expect a response to, is that I just don’t think this show sends out a balanced message. Another example is Paint it Black where the nuns were pretty much depicted as only being there due to a decision to flee every day life after having their hearts broken rather than being there because it was a lifestyle they truly believed in. IMO this show likes to send out the message “Casual sex = good, healthy and normal. Chastity = bad, repressive, unhealthy and questionable”, which I highly dislike because I consider both options valid choices. I do find the idea of Sister Jo as a satanist rather interesting tho :)
-
Again, I didn’t like the overall message of the episode. That chastity is a bad thing (pretty much everyone broke it) and all one needs is the big strong man (in this case Dean, but arguably a good looking guy in general) to come along and make you feel good about yourself and sexually liberate you. Im not trying to be mr preachy “casual sex is wrong”. I’ve never judged anyone on or off show for the lifestyle they live. I’m simply saying that the decision to be chaste and wait till marriage, or for a lifetime as a part of ones religious faith as with nuns, is also a perfectly valid choice that some people may wish to make and I didn’t like this episodes pretty much black and white depiction of it.
-
Eh, I didn't like the episodes depiction of chastity being a bad thing which basically every character broke. I'm not trying to say everyone should be chaste, but it is a valid life style if someone wants to live that way. And therefore I didn't like the episodes depiction of misguided woman goes chaste until the charming big strong man comes along and sleeps with her offering sexual liberation. Youre free to feel insulted if you want. It wasn't my intention but I am entitled to my opinion whether it's one you agree with or not.
-
If she is indeed a Catholic nun I’m still fully expecting Rock and a Hard Place 2.0. A woman deciding to be chaste until Dean swoops along and “sexually liberates” her, bleh!

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/more-tv-news/new-sabrina-dont-call-her-a-teenage-witch-series-lands-at-netflix/ So the Riverdale spin off reboot of Sabrina has been picked up by Netflix who will air it instead. Since that means it’ll no longer be in competition with Wayward for pick up next season do you guys think the chances of a pick up have improved? I personally think they may be improved for the simple fact I doubt the CW would have wanted to launch two spin offs in the same season. I’ve also always thought Sabrina would be the more feasible spin off due to two factors a) it may be able to attract the attention of those who loved the show which aired in the 90s and b) the Riverdale audience are probably more open to a spin off. Since a lot of the sn fandom have already expressed a refusal to watch a show set in the supernatural verse without one of, or both, Jared and Jensen.

I’m gonna be super cautious and put this in here (due to the soon to be in the same room bit) I’m going to amend my statement to @catrox14 . I’d rather Cas romantically involved with anyone who is not Dean, Sam, Lucifer or Ketch! LOL
-
Technically, I want Cas with any male other than Dean and Sam and especially Lucifer (who has murdered him twice ). Although a woman of faith making an exception for the sexy angel of the lord could make a weird kind of sense :p But in all seriousness I don’t want her on the show full stop.
