Bitchy old lady here. Mr. X and I have isolated ourselves since March, as we are old and retired, and I was livid when I read Jill's selfish and fucked-up post. So many of us haven't seen family or friends for the better part of a year, all because we stick to the rules and guidelines, and assholes like Jill continue to prolong this pandemic. I think you have nailed it. I absolutely hate attention drawn to me, and Mr. X knew (pre-pandemic) when he took me out for my birthday, never to tell the waitstaff that it was my birthday. I'd want the floor to open and swallow me whole. OTOH, I'm sure on Lauren's birthday, she would love the extra attention, just because she likes that. She does come off that way.

100% agree. How will people that gave Covid to relatives just to visit them for one holiday, forgive themselves? I'm old enough to be a grandma, although my only child isn't going to have kids, and there's no way she would visit us during a pandemic. Her husband's parents, who are in our age group, are actually going to travel to Mexico, and I can't wrap my head around that at all. I don't care if someone gave me an all-expenses paid vacation ANYWHERE, I would say no!
