  1. I understand its 2023 and almost nothing is getting made that isn't tied to an existing IP. That being said, I totally agree with you. This show would be far better if it wasn't tied to Grease. The people who cannot except anything other than the 1978 movie would not be nearly as upset. Change the name of the school, the names of the gangs, keep the creative team and cast, and I would still be watching and absolutely loving this series.
  2. Emily acting like the CIA is pure White Hats has been one of the absolute dumbest things on this series so far. It's been close to 50 years since the Church Commission. No one entering the CIA in the 21st Century can possibly think the CIA is pure good and never does anything that is questionable to order to accomplish the goals of the mission/operation.
  3. I can't believe that's all we will see of Lenny this season. He's too important a character for that to be it. What Luke Kirby can do with a look is amazing. There are moments when the way he looks at Midge says more than any line of dialogue ever could.
  4. Except that Esther is very much a science person who doesn't seem like the type who would write a book (novel or memior). It seems like a type of creativity/skill set she doesn't have. Her close friend or roommate who has spent years and years hearing all of these stories, that's the one who will write the book, with permission from Esther. Or the book will be an "as told to" type story.
  5. This may verge on fan-fiction, but what if at some point her career needed some image rehab (which given that it's Midge we're talking about it isn't the most out there thing) and her managers/PR team suggested starting a charity for a worthy cause. The first thing Midge said/thought of was children, so that's what they went with. The managers/PR team figured out a few lines for Midge that she would agree to say when asked (shades of the fake studio backstories in Singin' in the Rain) about the charity.
  6. The game they played with Penn and Teller, (I think it was called something like Morning Radio Show) was great. It's the perfect way to use celebrity guests who can't do improv, because most of them have done publicity interviews for whatever they regularly do (athletes and actors both have experience being interviewed). They get to sit back and let the crazy happen around them.
  7. If we are going to take a dip in the shallow end of the pool, which I have no strong moral objections to, I think he looks good in suits, but I think he looks better in the tight t-shirts.
  8. The first 10 minutes were amazing. The actress not only did her homework but all of the extra-credit. She sounded almost exactly like Midge and had quite a few of her mannerisms.
  9. I don't think Buddy is the villian. He may be a bit clueless, but he's not evil or manipulative. His ex-girlfriend is closer to being the villian of the story than he is.
  10. I would think/hope so. I love Sheldon and Missy together. I want more of it. What I love about them is that they complete each other and each has something to offer. I love the idea of Missy using TV to teach Sheldon social cues and social skills. I think it says a lot that Missy doesn't think Sheldon is hopeless or a lost cause. She believes that since he can learn everything else, he can learn this too.
  11. I can't be more specific, but sometimes it feels like the show operates on Scooby-Doo logic, and I'm also loving it. The show is stupid silly fun, and I'm okay with that. I enjoyed Margaret's love story and I hope they can make the relationship work.
  12. YES! The big question is whether it's going to be a romantic love song, or an argument that happens through song, because I would happy with either one. The shy T-Bird is Shy Guy, and the tomboy is Cynthia. It's sad because Shy Guy has a real crush on Cynthia, and she isn't interested in him romantically. Something that I think the show is doing well is that Cynthia doesn't quite have the language or a label to put on what she feels, which is accurate for 1954. Cynthia really hasn't shown romantic interest in anyone yet, and the same is true for Nancy (the designer). It's 1954 so it's a bit too early for the space program. California as a mjor center of aero-space doesn't really get started in a major way until the late 1950s with Sputnik and then NASA.
  13. Huge YES to Jane and Richie getting together. I admire Richie for waiting and letting Jane make next move after he invited her to the dance. I don't know if they will be able to make it work, but I'm rooting for them. This episode explained so much. It confirmed that Jane's mother is trying to pass and wants her daughters to be able to pass. I had questions about the Country Club subplot, but when the guide mentioned they had started admitting Italians five years ago, that seemed kind of early, but I was willing to roll with it. The town is in transition, which would easily explain the diversity of the high school. My guess is that sometime between the events of this series and the movie, the district redrew the borders, built a new school, or some combination of the above, which would explain/provide an in-universe explanation for why the school we see in the movie is less diverse than the school we are seeing in this series. I can accept a neighborhood in transition, but Buddy and Hazel living next to each other was far too implausible. The big musical number at the end felt very 1980s, but since the musical numbers exist outside of normal time, it worked for me. My guess/prediction is that the big dance or dueling dances (one at the Country Club and one at the Gym) will be the season finale.
  14. Exactly. Even if she hadn't been cautious or skeptical before, I can easily understand how Thalidomide would have made anyone question that what was promised to be the most amazing, latest, greatest medical advancement might actually have some significant drawbacks and side effects that were not yet known.
  15. I think the closing of Nonnatus House will be the series finale. It's the end of an era. My first thought was leukemia as well, so I was relieved that it was something far less serious. @JustDuckyIn the train crash, Timothy was mistaken for a fully trained doctor when he was bringing Dr. Turner's white coat to him. Timothy decided to help. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. I wish we could have seen this scene. It sounds fantastic.
  16. Yale is big enough they might not know Charlie (I'm using character name because I can't remember the name of his alias this episode), because no is going to know everyone in thier own class as well everyone in the years they overlapped. As a sophmore, you might know the junior you had an elective or a required course with, but you are not going to know the entire junior class. Making him a member of Skull and Bones was going too far. It is a small secret society. If there was anyone there who was also a member of Skull and Bones when he supposedly went there, it would be far too easy for someone to realize that they never saw him before him.
  17. YES! Someone else sees the potential. It would be so cheesy and so wonderful, or possibly awesomely bad. You could have Henry suspecting a crooked dealer at the casino. I'm not sure how Danny would end up clashing with local law enforcement during a shore excursion, but it would totally happen. At the bar, Erin overhears people talking about financial crimes. Jamie ends up mediating some kind of dispute between passengers or helping someone find something they lost. Frank has to make a major decision about something work related when he comes back. There's some kind of super important deadline, but the team tells him not to think about it and enjoy the vacation. Paramount+, make this happen!
  18. I loved Danny and Jamie working together. I wish they would do that more often. The discussions of how everyone would still end up working during the dream vacation sounded like the cheesiest 1970/1980s action adventure series two part episode, and also something that I now want to watch. 90-120 minute movie on Paramount+ please.
  19. Yes! I was so dissapointed the centaurs were cut from Order of the Pheonix, so now they can be included/restored in season 5. (I think almost every fan has something that was cut for time that they wished had been included.) Also, they ran out of time to do special effects for Sorcerer's Stone, so they had to rush to complete it in time for the release, which is why the troll hasn't held up well. This is a chance for them to do better. However, I would also be equally happy with a series that is the Marauder's time at Hogwarts. This would be 7 or 8 seasons (1 season for each year of school, plus an 8th season to cover 77-81). However, 77-81 could also be covered as an HBOMax original movie. Maybe this could be their next project? I have to ask, are the people in charge at Warner Discovery totally clueless how big a following the Maurders have?
  20. I agree with you on the way the series changed. I loved the first season and the first half of season 2, because you didn't have to know anything beyond the movies to enjoy it and apperciate it. While they were may have been references to expanded universe/legends/other things, they were not critical to the plot. If you recognized the thing it was a fun bonus, but if you didn't, you didn't feel like you were missing something. That changed in season 2.
  21. Absolutely after the scene by lockers when he helps her get into Buddy's locker. There was heat, there was intensity, you could cut the tension with a knife. He's intrigued by her, and she definitely has feelings for him. My prediction is that she will make the first move, but I have no idea what it's going to be.
  22. I may be alone on this, but I have been much happier with the episodes that are previously unaired material from earlier seasons and tapings than most of the regular episodes. This may be because there is almost nothing involving the "celebrity" guests. I am happy to watch what they have been doing for as long as they are willing to go through the archive and find material suitable for television. I am in no hurry for them to get back to regular episodes with 2 to 3 games featuring the "celebrity" guest.
  23. From this episode, we got a pretty good sense of all of the main girls homelives, but I want to know more about Cynthia's. We haven't seen her parents yet, and we don't see them lecture her the way the other girls were lectured by thier parents, which to me is quite telling.
  24. I have questions and thoughts. If they didn't have the rights to the characters from the musical, then how are they getting away with having Rizzo as the best friend of Jane's younger sister (who is clearly Frenchy), because the character is expliticly referred to as Betty Rizzo, so it's not like they called the character Betty and they could use the excuse that it's a different character named Betty. The idea that Jane and her family are trying to "pass" is brilliant and something that needs to be explored further. I love what they are doing with the music. The original songs remind me of Spring Awakening. They exist outside of time. They do not sound exactly like the era, but they are conveying the singer's thoughts/feelings/emotions and it totally works. The songs that exist from source music (what is playing on car radios and what not) are perfect and spot on for 1954. There is something about Cynthia's skirts that feels off, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is, so hopefully someone can help me. Also, I love the fashion and the cars. They are so pretty. This series would be so much better if it didn't have to be set in Rydell High in the suburbs of California. That California suburban setting is completely unrealistic for the kind of school and issues they want to deal with. Suburban California high schools in that era would not have been that diverse, but there are other places that would have worked if they wanted a diverse cast and make race an element of the story. This show would be better and have fewer detractors if it was not tied to Grease and was its own original thing. Of course, I understand its 2023 and nothing that it isn't based on an existing IP is going to be made, but a person can dream.
  25. Also, do we even know what knighthood means on that planet/within that culture? For all we know, knighthoods are given out by the royal couple like candy to random visitors and its actually a pretty meaningless title.
