  1. I'm very, very late. I read the book in October. It was all I could think about, every minute of the day. I had not read such brilliant writing...in a long time. Too long. The book completely captivated me. Of course I had to watch the show. It's better than I could have imagined. The directing, cinematography, acting, world building, just everything. It's gorgeous. Disturbing and horrific, but beautifully put together. I'm on episode 7. Elisabeth Moss is a dead ringer for my mom...it's scary. I mean watching Elisabeth is like looking at pics of my mom in the 60s and 70s. I'm now on an Atwood reading spree. MaddAdam trilogy, but it's not as good, although it's definitely a wonderful read. I think Atwood is my new favorite.
  2. And I remember him as the candles in Beauty and the Beast (1990).
  3. I remember that. I have gone a handful of times since renovation. Just way too tempting to blow every cent. It used to be the only place around in the 90s for a MAC counter, so that's why I went. I used to go to Willow Grove Park more. Hate malls now.
  4. Or Moorestown. Similar to Alpine (Eagles coach Doug Perderson, Carson Wentz and tons of other Eagles live there, big homes) or equally tony Vorhees. Perhaps even Princeton or Lawrenceville. All closer to Philly and also people commute to Manhattan from there. Yeah. Lived in Doylestown for ten years. Moved closer to Northampton Co. in 2017. However I grew up 10 miles south of D-town (Washington Crossing) and yes, my dad did commute to Manhattan. Many neighbors did as well. Much loss in 911, there is a memorial a few miles away from where my childhood home was.
  5. I grew up in lots of Philadelphia burbs and agree with you concerning 30something. I lived in Sussex Co DE too.
  6. Same, I found myself horrified about the college exemption. My dad left high school his senior year to voluntarily join the army (Fort Eustis VA). Not a college/academic guy at all (same as my younger brother) . Worked hard as a contractor until he retired in 03" and built our house, like your dad. I'm with my parents right now actually and my dad was saying how his younger friends went up to Canada to check it out, "just in case." Another entered college to avoid being drafted. My dad, "I wanted to go to Vietnam, I had nothing going on and had ended a horrible relationship." He'd accumulated many years in the army by 1970 and was honorably discharged before the draft. My mom had a hard time watching as she lost a friend named Bill there and recalls the horror of Vietnam. "Every night on the news, all the bodies and deaths. It was the first time war was covered on the news." She watches Vietnam movies/shows but becomes emotional. My dad was an infant during War World II and studying it is his passion. Now retired he watches documentaries on it all day long, anything he can get his hands on. And the military channel.
  7. My dad was # 152, but he was too old for the draft. Thank God. However he'd been in the army since 61' and had done his time. As a Type I diabetic (just got out of the hospital, which is why I'm late watching the show) how does one fake diabetes and get away with it? @countygirl gorgeous posts! I
  8. One day early for me. March 7 and I'm 8. Born in 74 here and a girl.
  9. Finally watched it. Well, I guess we know what happened to Jack's heart in the future. People on here were correct, he was a ticking time bomb. I admit I cried when Jack's friend in Nam held his head in his hand-Memphis! Once again showing how the past informs the future and the painting of the family done by Kevin. Also saw some more of the painting with Jack's grumpy grandfather. I want to see what happened with Nicky. Guess they'll drag Vietnam out.
  10. Exactly my pop culture maven. Quite conservative in my mom's 67 yearbook. That hair that appears to have been "poofed" and "rolled". My mom went to high school in suburban Philadelphia.
  11. I went to high school w a set of triplets where two were identical and the other was fraternal.
  12. Yup. My mom was born in 1949 and graduated in 67. She figured the shop class scene was around 65. She loved Rebecca's whole look...hair, dress. She thought it was very true to that time down to Rebecca's hair with the bangs. In fact my mom commented that she was sure the show runners had been studying old yearbooks. Rebecca was about to turn 30 soon after super bowl 1980...episode: The Game Plan. Ps. My dad was born in 43, a year before Jack. He went immediately into the army at Fort Eustis, VA in 1962 after graduating hs in 61. No Vietnam as he had done his time by the draft. But I gotta say, the scene with the old man at the end (who gets the email from Kevin) made me sad. These Nam era men are getting old. My dad included.
  13. You guys should be in the writing room of This is Us! I'm a voracious reader, especially of YA apocalyptic fiction or just apocalyptic fiction and I'd read the s--- out of those books! Excellent premise. We have such a creative group here, I love it. This group gives me so much food for thought. Thank you all.
  14. Yup! Although the actors in it are my age! Gen X. Tiffani and I are 2 months apart (I got told I looked like Kelly Kapowski in high school, I wish!) And so is Mario. And he never ages! I think Tori Spelling (she was in it) is a 1973 girl.
  15. They surely could have gone with string cheese...easy to eat in a car. Come on writers!
  16. North Philadelphia according to the sign on the gate where Randall was installing the light bulb.
  17. My mom had a very similar OBGYN in 1974, when I was born. Even better. But yeah, it was rare.
  18. Yup Methodwriter85! I live an hour and a half north of Philadelphia (between Philly and Allentown PA, near Easton), but actually worked in Philadelphia until two weeks ago and lived in many Philly suburbs in my 44 years. Philly gentrification is huge. Northern Liberties, Fish Town, Manayunk (used to be not so great when I was a kid, now-millennial chic). I'd put money down that the show is going there. Maybe putting Joyce (Deja's mom) into one of the renovated units.
  19. Yeah, like in the previews, young teen Kate to older Kate:"You. Having a child???" Then laughing. Like she knows deep, down inside that she is too self involved.
  20. Yeah, I bet Randall goes through gentrification of the entire North Philadelphia neighborhood. He becomes councilman and basically transforms the entire place into nirvana.
  21. Exactly. I mean, they even used Doylestown in the Best Washing Machine in the World episode. Jack saying something about meeting "the Doylestown people". Doylestown is near Philadelphia. I lived in Doylestown for ten years. Next episode is even called A Philadelphia Story. They could have used a CGI Veterans Stadium in their coming back together date in 1997 (night the dog showed up) instead of 3 Rivers Stadium.
  22. Exactly. My work has a Christmas/winter carnival on campus (residential school/facility) a couple weeks before Christmas. Hot cocoa, candied apples, carriage rides, crafts, food, music...but no rides. I'm in the Philadelphia area. But then again it's super bowl Sunday and Kate is under a leafy tree...
  23. Hmmm, good points. I was thinking it was a total freak accident...Like accidentally tripped her or something and she feels nervous seeing Kate for first time in years?? I don't know, just over thinking, lol. I think that Dan said in an interview it was 13 years, 2031? I honestly thought it was Rebecca, for sure. Then Sterling had to say the bit about Tess being reluctant to see this person and who would Tess not be ready to see. Ugh, this show!
