  1. I like Justin even more after he quoted Mean Girls. I have a shirt with the same color-stripes pattern as today's tie. They're not fans of musicals I take it. I ran that category, including all 4(!) TS - Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; Book of Mormon; A Chorus Line; Into the Woods. Other TS I got were Saturday Night Fever, SE Hinton (surprise TS), queen. I guessed Captains Courageous for FJ also. I looked it up, and yes he was. Ouch indeed! The movie was described in the clue as a fantasy, so The Wizard of Oz is the one that fit.
  2. Despite the obviousness, I was sure Switzerland was correct for FJ. TS I got were Irving Berlin, Aristotle (guess), Georgie Porgie, Hawaii I celebrated my 30th birthday in Key West, uh, lots more than 4 years ago ;-) I was all "kitties!!!" at the Hemingway estate, but poor Dr. Toothbrush's inhaler got a workout. He's in his early 50s, but that was pretty random. I liked Pearl Jam as much as anyone back in the day, and he has a great voice, but I forget they exist until the Sirius-XM 90s or Lithium station plays one of their songs.
  3. Great comeback for Justin! I don't think Alex knows who Eddie Vedder is (Shannon's FJ) TS I got were The Daily Prophet (can't believe this was a TS!), Aaron Sorkin, Amelie, alcohol. I wonder if 'the Clevelands' would have been accepted or if they needed Grover & Frances. If so, I would not have gotten it right because I had no idea if Mrs. Cleveland was Frances, Francine, or any other variation of which Frankie could be a nickname. Shannon should have gotten a BMS for 'festivals', but after accepting Cape Kennedy, her not specifying music festivals was trivial. I'm also digging the way he dresses. Dr. Toothbrush said he looked like a highlighter today. lol Not all cats. They are called polydactyl cats, and Ernest Hemingway was given one years ago. Dozens of 6-toed descendants of the original cat still live on Hemingway's estate in Key West, so they are also called Hemingway cats (not sure if this is an official name, or a 'known as' name). I love sloths, and are pretty sure they are my spirit animal. I signed up for a 5K just to make myself start running again!
  4. Happy Birthday to Alex! He looks great for 77!
  5. Congrats to Justin. George needed to chill, he was super hyper probably due to nerves, but I did like that he didn't say the entire category name when choosing clues. Too many wrong guesses hurt him, and then the Americana FJ really did him in (I'm American & didn't get it). I liked Connie saying "no guts, no glory" when she wagered all in FJ. TS I got were LSU (Geaux Tigers!), Booker T. Washington, rhinestones Groan! Or should I say boo hiss?
  6. I like Justin - he is knowledgeable and picks the next question quickly. TS I got were pronoun, interjection, JK Simmons, Cole Porter. FJ was easy once I realized where they were going. For some reason I was thinking of a small state (despite the category name - d'oh!), and was trying to think of something related to Rhode Island. I think I would have had time to write the answer down.
  7. Catching up after several days out of town. Our electricity evidently went out Saturday, and when it came back on our DVR had to be reset so we missed recording a few shows #firstworldproblems TS I got for Wednesday were Aunt Sally, Volkswagen, AMC. FJ was an instaget for me. We had to pause it we were laughing so hard. Actually, it's Drew Brees (honestly, I have no idea; just a huge Saints fan) She reminds me of a younger version of my step-mother-in-law. I like her. She's pleasant, not annoying, and starts at the top of categories. All I can ask for in my Jeopardy contestants. I got Bhutan but not Bahrain. The baby is the cutest royal baby ever! Beautiful parents too. I said Lexus because there is a recall going on with the airbags in my car, but it has been a few years, and Lexus is not the airbag manufacturer, so I was wrong on a couple of levels.
  8. Jill & the flower - just no. And distracting. TS I got were pealed/peeled; Walter Cronkite (guess after the wrong responses); longshoreman; missed DD of excruciating (poor cute guy, but it was fairly easy to work out, at least from my living room ;-) ) Surprised that Korea did not get a BMS. I vaguely remembered an actor being nominated after several years for the same role but could not remember who it was. It was an instaget for Dr. Toothbrush which surprised the hell out of me since he does not pay any attention to the Oscars. We say that all the time...lol!! Dr. Toothbrush wanted to name one of our twin daughters Eleanor, just so he could say 'Eleanor gee I think you're swellanore Toothbrush' like the real John McLaughlin used to say to Eleanor Clift. But we stuck to the plan and named them after their twin 3x great aunts, and their names coincidentally also start with 'E'
  9. Gavin looks almost exactly like Dr. Toothbrush (Dr. T is taller, slimmer, and has no earring), so I was rooting for him. I liked Sara-Jane a lot too and loved her top. TS I got were Weisbaden, game reserve, missed DDs of implosion & steel, and Dan Marino. FJ was an instaget as soon as I saw the words scraggly beard.
  10. This was a much better game than yesterday. Rich was again impeccably dressed, and the 2 challengers were pretty good. I hope that the new champion selects clues faster in her subsequent game(s). TS I got were dove/stove; Gena Rowlands (I thought her name was pronounced 'Gina'); Verdi; Vivaldi. Although I guessed Verdi until it was correct, then switched to Vivaldi..lol Same here - on all points I expected the next category to be Khan! Makes sense. I hope they bring alliterative Scott back. I didn't get it, but I would expect Rich, whose minor was archeology, to have answered correctly. That's exactly how I got it!
  11. Boy that game was painful. I knew Susan would be a one and done champion, but I did not expect her to flame out so spectacularly. Alyssa made a good comeback though. Rich reminded me of Sheldon Cooper. Huzzah for Alex advising the contestants that perhaps starting at the top would assist them in understanding the theme of the category. TS I got were serpentine ("serpentine Shel"), tagalog (not to be confused with the Girl Scout cookie tagalongs), Samantha Who?, Grover Cleveland (missed DD - how??), Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone, Annie Lennox. FJ was an instaget. I have dimples and as soon as my older sister learned that they are considered a genetic defect you would have thought I was Frankenstein's monster. I thought about you during that category. There were a couple of clues about mystery writers.
  12. Jon was starting to grow on me, so naturally he lost. I guess we'll see him in the ToC. Susan will probably be a one & done champ. Poor Josh just couldn't get it going. TS I got were Maui (guess), Larry Mullen (no Jr), Drew Carey, before anyone else. FJ was an instaget as soon as I saw the word Norway. I also knew there was a more pc name but could not remember it.
  13. OK, all you pray-leen people are forgiven ;-) I have a Cajun great-uncle (100 years old!), who calls them pecan (pah-cawn) candy.
  14. prah-leen (first syllable rhymes with bra) I liked Rishi's FJ answer too. A tea break in the middle of a match sounds so proper :-) Jon said pray-leen. I guess 'correct' is relative, but in NOLA we say 'prah-leen' and that is where they (American version) originated. So we're right..lol!!
  15. Enough with the board hopping! Jon is growing on me, but I really wanted him to lose after he pronounced the word praline with a long a. Nails on a chalkboard to this New Orleanian. I liked both Liz & Rishi, but the way Liz held the signaling device seems like it would cramp one's index finger. TS I got were rice, evil (both guesses but I thought fairly obvious), Monaco (missed DD), Howard's End. I said Peyps instead of Boswell too. FJ was almost an instaget - for a moment I wondered if Lipton sponsored a sporting tournament, then went with Wimbledon.
  16. Awesome birthday story funky-rat! Bet he was thrilled.
  17. The hopping around was irritating. I thought Chloe was going to pull out the win, but if she is a't' dropper (Bri'in), it's just as well so I do not have to be annoyed by that for however many days. TS I got were Calgary, Alice B. Tolkas (he should have just given the last name), Swe Pea, Splendor in the Grass (not sure I would have had time to ring in in time), Turow, 1977 (missed DD), pop. No idea for FJ. I could not get past the Peter Piper pickled peppers tongue twister. It would have been easier for me, too. I overthink it too.
  18. Deja vu with Jon getting the DD on the very first clue chosen. Same clue value, and same wimpy wager. And then he just stood there, and at first forgot to phrase the answer in the form of a question. I knew then it was going to be a painful game. The guys played fine, but all 3 were so low energy, took forever to pick clues, and started in the middle of categories in DJ. TS I got were Great Expectations, Yellow River, face blindness (missed DD), Brenda Lee. FJ was an instaget for me. Cliff Clavin comes to mind :-) I would hope that a contestant with more than double their closest competitor would be mindful to not wager an amount that could make losing a possibility, but you never know.
  19. I laughed when Jon got the DD with the first clue he picked. That's what you get for starting in the middle of the category. Glad the upspeaker Emily didn't win, but I felt bad for her since Trevor (especially) & Jon really took over. TS I got were diabetes, Yonkers (missed DD), To Sir With Love, X, U joint, Perot (total guess). No idea for FJ, but Dr. Toothbrush, the aviation geek, got it pretty quickly. To me, a plane is a plane. Same here.
  20. She was absolutely glowing! Rutina Wesley is stunning!
  21. I had to turn on the cc to figure out what Clint said also, but I still don't get it. Why would being named after Clint Eastwood instead of the city where his parents met make him a junior? Was it a joke on his mother's part that Clint Eastwood is his real father? They did not mention it, but maybe his dad is Clint too? In that case, if you have the same full legal name as your father, you're a junior regardless. I will miss Clint with his colorful shirt/coordinating tie combos, but new champ is good so far. Alliterative Allen's story was sweet. TS I got were According to Jim (only because Clint said Life According to Jim, which jogged my memory), Memoirs of a Geisha, low key, haut. I remembered Christy but not Brown, and I don't suppose "the guy who Daniel Day-Lewis played in 'My Left Foot'" would have been ruled as correct. FJ was an instaget but I would have wagered very little since I have a brown thumb and have no interest in plants. And then I would have been pissed.
  22. I knew it would be a long skinny country, but I was thinking east-west instead of north-south at first. I'm a geographical dummy, too, which I think worked out well this time because Chile was the only long skinny country I could think of. If there are others they didn't even enter my brain! Loved Clint's pink shirt/tie combo also. And yes, starting at the tops of categories & not skipping around would be great!
  23. Mario Andretti has a beautiful voice! TS I got were King David & paper currency. FJ took me a second to get because I was thinking east to west also at first. Starting in the middle in DJ is beginning to be common, unfortunately. I understand why, but it pisses me off too. I was rooting for Megan also, but Clint seems OK.
  24. New champ is OK, but he needs to not get so frustrated when someone beats him on the signaling device. When he was trying to come up with Thurgood Marshall and said 'shoot', I knew then & there I could never be on J! even if I pass the test & auditions, because 'shoot' is not the word that would have come out of my mouth. I can imagine law student William as the type of lawyer who takes a lot of dramatic pauses and bangs his fists on the jury box in indignation. A TV/movie type lawyer. I hated when he nodded his head at his DD before Alex finished reading the clue. I was waiting for a Hudson('s) Bay correction also. TS I got were Henry the Navigator, Logan's Run, & face palm. I will admit that Trump crossed my mind for a second for FJ but realized 1960 was too early & quickly got Walt Disney. LOL @ Osmond champ! I would be the world's worst FJ wagerer because rather than using logic & rules of thumb, I would overanalyze how my fellow contestants performed, and based on the answers they got & missed, what their knowledge of the FJ subject night be. Having said that, I would have bet on William answering correctly, so clearly my strategy sucks.
