  1. Alan was a beast tonight! Poor David, and I felt bad for Austin. I agree that he is an attention ho, but I find him mildly entertaining when he is not over the top. But I do find his "whatevers" & shoulder shrugs to be obnoxious. I know the hipster thing is to act soooo unimpressed by everything, but it's not a good look. I think is $16,000.00 will be enough to qualify him for the semi-finals. TS I got were Speaking, Landing, Mississippi River, alibi, Sarrat, good for nothing. Justin of the unfortunate haircut? Yes. He plays Friday. No Alex didn't, but it still made me laugh. I got it a clue before & also laughed. And Willie Wonka! Most 7 year olds would have been able to answer correctly.
  2. Bhutan is a kingdom, and IMO the king, queen, & crown prince are the most gorgeous royal family in the world. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjVv_aqva7XAhWEyIMKHWEYBegQjRwIBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Findia.breakingnow.co%2Foneindia%2Fguess-what-modi-gave-the-young-prince-of-bhutan%2F&psig=AOvVaw1LiIm2YyZPD_Gt4Yfrz-YD&ust=1510212936209029
  3. Much better game today, IMO. Still don't like board hopping, but that is because of my over 40 brain, and usually a glass of wine has been or is being consumed. TS I got were purple & Bismark. I said Bhutan for FJ knowing it was incorrect. Yes, 96 *face palm* Dr. Toothbrush turned 30 in early 1997 so I was thinking that was the year, but then remembered it was in fact a 1996. I have seen cars like your old one at vintage Impala shows. Yes, I have been dragged to a few. Beautiful car. The clue specified a 2 word name, and since they were asking for the specific state tree of VT, then yes, I think you would have gotten a BMS.
  4. I think it's called dabbing, and was a craze a couple of years back. I mainly remember NFL players doing it when they scored, or made a good play. And then-pre-teen oldest mini-TB used to do it too. I barely remember Lily, but do remember Lisa as being annoying. He didn't say, but no doubt he considers them vintage. Dr. Toothbrush bought a new 1997 Chevy Impala when he turned 30. Twenty years later, he still loves it, and no matter where he goes, people of all ages strike up conversations about it, offer to buy it, etc. Mostly men, so not to be sexist, but maybe it's a guy thing? He has a dollar amount in mind & promises he will sell when someone offers that amount but I am not holding my breath. He loves that gas guzzling, low to the ground, rough riding land barge to pieces!
  5. I love that you write about Jeopardy in your journal. I'm surprised that Alex didn't mention that the blue ribbons being worn were in Cindy's memory.
  6. I rewound that a few times. Just perfect! I also loved her line about Jr's life being like living in a dystopian Judy Blume novel. Agree 100% The workplace scene was funny: Josh going to private school with not only Posts & Kelloggs, but children of owners of lesser cereal companies; Stevens' son being surprised that Dre is not already a grandfather & no longer eating at Cheesecake Factory. So clueless. And most of all, Charlie being ranked 5th in his hs class - 1st among the humans!
  7. I remember cracking up laughing when you posted about it on the RHoP thread, and I thought of your family while watching this!
  8. I'm glad Buzzy won, but could have done without the histrionics before and after the game. I don't remember him being annoying during his original run, so either he has been Austin Rogers-ized or I was too distracted by his impeccably tailored suits to notice. And I really hate that we don't get the full-length shot after the game any longer. TS I got were Silver Bullet Band (& I loathe Bob Seeger's music), Prague, Square Pegs, Poe, Celestine Prophecy. FJ was an instaget, and too easy for a FJ, especially during the ToC. Pranjal buying a 1991 car & it being older than he is made me want to weep. Loved when Alex mentioned the jumping around when the first DD was found. Kudos to whomever called that the FJ dividers are now automated. I noticed them retracting after the FJ answers were revealed.
  9. LMAO! That is what we called Buzzy too. I liked him & will be rooting for him tonight & hopefully beyond.
  10. I admit that I had to google talk show host Michael Douglas as I had never heard of him. Interesting fact: he died on his 81st birthday (I am an actuary, so possibly only interesting to me) Poor David indeed. Between Austin & Alan he doesn't stand a chance.
  11. Oh good. Glad I will not have to deal with that after the ToC. Of course, there is always someone worse... Very exciting!!! I just wish that grandpa-in-law Toothbrush (who saw Babe Ruth play!) were here to see it. Dr. Toothbrush and oldest mini-Toothbrush went to an exhibition game between the Cubs & Astros in March. Little did they know they were watching not only the current WS champs, but the next ones too! I vaguely remember Seth & Jason, and will have to watch the video someone posted either upthread or in the media thread to re-familiarize myself with the contestants. Anyone but Austin reminds me of the 2016 presidential campaign - from both sides. Giant Jesus (aka Christ the Redeemer ;-) ) is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I don't even try with Upton Sinclair/Sinclair Lewis anymore.
  12. Missed Friday's game due to coverage of the Astros' victory parade/celebration. Neither the station's website nor SM referenced a later showing, but the soap that precedes J! was shown at 2:00 this morning so I took a chance and recorded 30 minutes after that, but it was an infomercial. Sad that Jenny lost, glad that Monica was a one & done, but sorry to hear that the new champ may be even more annoying and is - ugh! - an upspeaker. Kudos to Kelvin for putting himself out there. TS for Thursday were Marlon Brando, Tone Loc, director's chair, club chair, library, Boys of Summer, Centerfield. I said Adams for FJ knowing it was incorrect, but could not think of anything else. I'm surprised the clue didn't reference that both became POTUS after their predecessor was assassinated, as hand-holding as J! has gotten recently (says the person who answered incorrectly..lol) I got Marlon Brando from the Godfather quote, but also knew about the Oscar refusal, and I don't think the picture would have helped if I hadn't known. FWIW, it was before I was born. Looking forward to the ToC starting Monday. For now I am rooting for the winner of the Teachers' Tournament, but as easy as I remember that being, he will probably get eliminated pretty early. Buzzy is probably my 2nd favorite; I'm a sucker for a well-dressed man. But it's probably Austin's to lose. He has good knowledge and the most recent experience, although that helped Matt Jackson get to the finals but not win in the last ToC. Just got it..d'oh! (in my defense I watched at 11:30 Friday night after a long week; that's my story & I'm sticking to it!) This! I have to make sure to have my phone or tablet nearby when watching because I am constantly pausing the show to google something or other.
  13. Catching up on DVR'd shows since baseball has taken over for the past couple of nights. Congrats Astros!!!! I said 13. Awwww! <3 I kicked butt (for me anyway) on Tuesday's clues. I ran Business Pairings, Facts & Figures, Forewords, 1960 Movies. TS I got were Dean, Marie-Louise, To Sir With Love, Cuba Libre. FJ was an instaget, and I had no idea that Kodak was a made up word, and also thought it was Eastman's partner. Alex kinda implied that Patrick & Byron sucked by saying he thought they would do better based on the Jeopardy round, but then Andan took over in DJ. He was complimenting Andan, and I'm sure did not mean to insult the other guys, but he can be awkward that way. I loved his pocket square. TS for Wednesday were Concord, powder, Kevin O'Leary, Austria. FJ was an instaget. Rahul was all kinds of eye candy and I wish he could have stuck around, even though he went DD hunting toward the end of DJ. And then he only wagered $1,000, and the clue turned out to be ridiculously easy. If I were Andan, I probably would have eaten the pizza off the ground. At least a bite or two. I really like Jenny.
  14. I really liked Charles, and being a Cubs fan and his cute FJ answer just made him better. I don't mind Anand, but he sure is low energy. Not that we need another Austin, but somewhere in the middle is nice. Morgan would have gotten old really quickly had she won. I didn't get Captain Kidd, but I did have a laugh and an eye roll at Captain Blackbeard. TS I got were glutton, Warren Zevon (first Cat Stevens is a TS Friday, and now Warren Zevon), shirtdress, embouchure, Tulsa FJ was an incorrect instaget. I said 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Baby wolverines sure are adorable! The picture was of Rob Zombie, and I agree that it looked like Mel Gibson in Braveheart.
  15. I liked everyone interacting, but Bob may as well have been wearing a red shirt. And that the monster searching for water was telegraphed loud & clear before Max figured it out. It came to life when Bob spilled coffee on it, a water delivery guy was a big part of the plot, and then the toilet water & peeing "jokes" that went on so long I thought 12-year old boys had taken over the writers' room. Annie is smart, gorgeous, & sweet, so of course her boyfriend is a tool. But that still doesn't mean I want an Annie/Max romance, or worse, UST. Ugh!
  16. As much as I like the lead actors, the show is still very uneven. Especially the characterization of Max. I think they are going for the brilliant, but socially awkward astrophysicist, but (IME) most socially awkward people are not as outgoing and try-hard as he is. I have an uncle who is, literally, a rocket scientist, and the epitome of what I think to be book brilliant/socially awkward. The daughter storyline was dumb, IMO.
  17. I definitely get a Psych vibe. An hour long format would be much better, but TPTB may not have wanted to expend the funds & effort that takes. Maybe making it less of a MotW format, and more serialized. I can understand not wanting to discourage potential viewers who may be reluctant to tune in smack in the middle of a storyline, but the episodes feel rushed to me.
  18. Finally getting around to watching this on my DVR. It was good, not as funny as I expected, but the leads have a nice chemistry & the premise was set up quickly. The supporting cast was good, except Barry is already annoying; hopefully he will be toned down a bit. Or a lot. I've never heard my first name as a last name. Weird.
  19. Sorry to see Erica go; I really thought she would stick around for a while. Anand is fine, but I wish he wouldn't jump categories & then start at the 2nd clue. Hate that. TS I got were MIT, stalker/fan, LSU (missed DD; what's funny is that Anand's guess of Tulane was only 90 miles away, so something clicked about La), Cat Stevens (surprise TS especially since the clue contained the first line of the refrain from & title of his arguably most well-known song); petals. I ran the Movie Sequels & Birthstone categories. The Contemporaries category was fun & I got all but one of them correct. The Arnold S. clue would have been easy enough without a picture. Between that and the first few clues in the Authors category I was wondering if some clues meant for the Teen or College Tournament made it onto the board. But then there was FJ that made Dr. Toothbrush & I look blankly at each other. My parents are going to Belize over Thanksgiving, but they are going to Belize City, which I actually thought was the capital. I really suck at geography. Agree on all counts. It looked like a really cute dress. I hate that we no longer get to check out everyone's outfits at the end of the show. Definitely a resemblance.
  20. I like Erica, but hope she is less reactionary when she doesn't have Nan to play off of. TS I got were 1990s, Chinese, Emerson, NC (smh at Wright), Rodney (thank you 1776). Ran the Ruined Rumors & Lip Synch Battle categories. FJ was a kids' tournament caliber clue.
  21. I share your illness. I used to love checking out what everyone was wearing.
  22. Mary Grace looked like a deer in the headlights, but had a relatively good comeback. I got all 3 missed DD (nightingale, Archbishop of Canterbury, beaver), plus Scottish & FM. Ran the Jelly Belly Flavors & Fairytales (where we had to ID a cat wearing boots from an etching <rolls eyes> ) categories. I got FJ once I thought it through, but my mind also went to Casey at the bat & KC & the Sunshine Band first. Think I would have had time to write the correct response down. It was an instaget for Dr. Toothbrush who was particularly amused at my KC & the Sunshine Band guess. He is kicking my butt in FJ lately. Boo hiss.
  23. Catching up while the show is on WS hiatus. I was spoiled by Queen Latifah on Harry Connick Jr's show that Jahill was not dead. She did not say that outright, but she said that she loves (present tense) working with BB every day, so unless they were going to go flashback heavy, I knew his death was misdirection. Good thing, since he is the reason I started watching the show in the first place. (And just when I thought I could not love her more, QL told Harry that Carlotta's wigs are her favorite co-stars...lol) Ayanna needs to step it the hell up, because Star bulldozing over her at every turn is not a good look. The only reason they are in is because GiGi loves them, so the show could have had Ayanna standing firm until she had to kiss the ass of the artist she was desperate to sign. And I guess if you're Star, it's ok to assault people? I suppose Quincy Brown & Paris Jackson were stunt casts, but Quincy is a really good actor, and Paris certainly has a presence on-screen. I doubt seriously that MJ is her biological father, but she sure has his it factor. But Rachel requesting a kiss from under-age Simone to post their video on her You Tube channel was gross. Can you imagine the outcry if Rachel had been Ronald making the same demand? I would totally watch Miss Bruce on an HGTV salon renovation show! Not just you - please make room in the Star hate section for me. If I am supposed to be sympathetic enough to excuse her past behavior after seeing her break down with her dad, too little too late. There would have had to have been an underlying likeableness to her from the start, which there was not.
  24. I love both Margo Martindale & Ann Dowd! They are so talented, and show up in everything. The female versions of H!ITG.
  25. I was rooting for Rob, but am not disappointed that Nan was able to pull out the win. TS I got were Shawn Johnson, Waylon Jennings, Margo Martindale I said egghead for FJ (despite only 7 letters) & Dr. Toothbrush said cerebral.
