  1. Tuesday's game moved so slowly. It seemed like all 3 contestants took forever to choose the next clue. (hint: stop jumping around; just move on to the next clue unless one of your Cliff Clavin categories is up there) TS I got were tea caddy, resolution (Quin's missed DD), scarlet fever, SeaTac, Altered Carbon. I said Republic for FJ. I wonder if the reason Sean enunciates so determinedly is due to a childhood speech impediment. And besides hundred & acturarily, he had an issue with stethoscope today. Or maybe his mouth tends to work faster than his brain, like mine sometimes does ;-) I can tell the difference in many bottled waters too. That was Ryan, if I remember correctly.
  2. teebax - congrats to the Eagles!!! I like Sean, but he needs to learn to shorthand the category names. The only TS I got were UCLA & hue. As an actuary, I was excited to see the Love Actuarily category, but am ashamed to say I missed bereavement. I knew the concept they were looking for, but the way the clue was written it was clear they were looking for one specific word. My immediate guess for FJ was QVC, but when Dr. Toothbrush said TWC, it was a d'oh moment for me. It's pronounced the same in New Orleans. Love the Shaun Spencer quote! Us too!
  3. I saw this case on another show, too, so knew immediately who was responsible. I didn't remember the parents being divorced, but that is probably just my faulty memory :-) Definitely a very disturbed young man. I wonder if the drug OD altered his brain chemistry, or if there were issues beforehand. The relatives interviewed didn't mention anything that could have been a sign, even in hindsight.
  4. Rootger being so nervous about flying was ridiculous since he has flown across the Atlantic at least once. Being a nervous flyer is one thing, but being as petrified as he seemed to be made no sense. Does he travel between The Netherlands & the US on a ship?
  5. The football category fail was a segment on TMZ Friday. They loved Alex's snark.
  6. Thank you plastic baby Jesus in my king cake! Jenny sways and is giggly, but hopefully she will calm down Monday. TS I got were Edinburgh, Berlin (Ryan's missed DD), Loyola, Cabrini, Van Halen, Xavier. FJ was an instaget. How was Johnson not a BMS? Cool peek behind the podiums! In case it ever comes up, the official state song of LA is "You Are My Sunshine", which was written by Jimmie Davis, a governor of the state during WWII & I think again in the 50s or 60s. LOL!
  7. According to Wikipedia, the state has chosen not to indict her. I suppose that could change if irrefutable evidence is found?
  8. Mr. Clanstarling sounds very sweet. His comment is mild compared to what many of us have said about Ryan (and many others). Ryan has been introduced as a banker during his run, and Thursday he told Alex is the vault teller, and manages the cash for bank, which actually sounds like a cool job. Most people would likely think of a personal banker or someone on a high level when they hear the word banker. I'm an actuary, and worked for a bank in the early 2000s. I should have called myself a banker - sounds much sexier than actuary :) I give Alex a huge pass too (most of the time). I don't think he means to come across as misogynist or rude (when he does). I think he is a product of his time, and also a mix of social awkwardness and having had to make small talk with perfect strangers for 50 years. Like Queen Elizabeth. As fabulous as I am sure I would look in a tiara :-) meeting and talking to God knows how many people in a day's work would be hell for me. I can remember his last name but never his first. I always want to say Jim :-)
  9. Dammit! When will this national nightmare end??? Did the Carson mansion in the Geography 101 category belong to Kit? Dr. Toothbrush ran the football category and thought it was funny that the whole category was a TS. TS I got were Lawrence of Arabia, Cowboys, fair catch, Henson, Ruby Bridges, atomic clock (Sara's missed DD), non-partisan, indigent, Ugly Betty (Ryan's missed DD). We said Ginsberg for FJ. Kerouac seemed too obvious, although after Ore-Ida yesterday, I guess obvious is the new black for FJ. And he was so nice to look at. I said the same thing about Alex's tie. Dr. Toothbrush said he looked liked a gangster.
  10. Shit, shit, shit. That is what I shouted after puppy abandoner, 3rd rate Fonzie Ryan doubled his score on the 1st DD then uncovered the 2nd. I was sending telepathic Atlantic City vibes to him so he'd miss the 2nd one, but it didn't work. TS I got were Campfire (Girls), The Pirates of Penzance, Rubik, Ho Hey, Dark Horse, Shining Star. I over FF the recording to get to FJ, and saw the dot on the map, and Dr. Toothbrush & I both said, "Ore-Ida" before ever hearing the clue. The words "he's now dead to me" escaped my lips Tuesday night. It's so strange what some people think is charming. I'd take a million dirty feet stories over this one. I decided to overlook the unnecessary "E" also. I agree - great piece of trivia. I have convinced myself that the puppy was rescued and is living a dream life full of love, belly scratches, and doggy treats. Oh dear, a new icon. The pressure! From the look on his face after DJ, Nate thought so too.
  11. Ryan is a good player but annoying. I was rooting for Brandey - her hair was awesome, and she seems to have a good personality. TS I got were Witch & Wizard, Love Letters, Three Rivers Stadium, & Lumiere in the (ugh!) French Scientists category. Icarus for FJ in the Toothbrush living room also. I've said before that this usually works for Ken Jennings, but not for most of us mere mortals. Yes to both.
  12. My JD is from Law & Order University, but I thought a letter such as Kent Leppink's could be considered a dying declaration & not subject to cross-examination if deemed to be admissible. What a shame that the appeals court overturned both convictions because he couldn't be cross-examined about the letter. It's like they benefitted from their crime. The original trial judge seemed to think the same, but was pragmatic about the judicial system, and I respect him for that. I wonder if Kent's parents would have opened the letter as soon as it was received if he had not already been killed. I know I would have! Mechele has no conscience or moral compass. Regardless of whether she has 'turned her life around', the fact remains that she was playing 3 men against the other for personal gain, and because of it 1 of those men ended up dead. Wish she would have been retried, convicted, & made to serve out her sentence. And the baby voice - ugh!
  13. God that was painful! Dr, Toothbrush & I groaned when the Fruits & Vegs in French category was announced <sarcasm>So sad that it wasn't completed, but so glad that AT was able to speak en francais in the Ballet Companies category in DJ<endsarcasm> TS I got were Treaty of Paris (really???), Akita, NC, Armstrong (Lindberg - oy! The first moon landing was before my time too, but certainly not before Maria's), Hannibal & Princess Grace (Jennifer's missed back-to-back DDs), The Snowy Day, The Ice Storm. Oh, also got Vonn; by default as she is the only skier I can name. I knew FJ was not the American flag but could not think of anything else. Dr. Toothbrush came up with draft card at the last second. And yet the 3 braintrusts all got it. Go figure!
  14. I felt disloyal not rooting for a fellow Jennifer, but really wanted Melissa to win. Jennifer did get better (ie calm down) as the game went on. Rachel's Southern accent was as painful as Tom Hanks' was in the movie. TS I got were The Mary Tyler Moore Show, wikileaks, Cuba, Westminster, amortization, usury (Jennifer's missed DD). Not sure how Cuba & wikileaks were TS. FJ was an instaget. Me too. And that is what attracted her boyfriend to her? Ick! Because she is so young & cutesy & girlish, that Children's Lit should have been an instaget for her. Of course she is! I am surprised that she is only 26; she looks older than that to me. If it can't be the Saints, then "Go Eagles"
  15. Of the projected Final 4, Joe S. is my least favorite, but he has grown on me since the season started. Ideally Chris would win, but since he is not in this group, Joseph F. would be my next choice. And I like Adrienne much more than I like Carrie, but I do think that chef-wise Carrie is much more interesting. There is just something about Carrie that annoys me, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Hubby has been a Carrie fanboy since she baked a cake on a grill under the snow, but since taste-o-vision has not been invented yet, I tend to root for cheftestants based on the annoyance to Toothbrush meter.
  16. Count on it. I'm also betting on a Hondo/Cortez/Plank love triangle. As much as I hate that a workplace romance has to be shoehorned into every show that features a work situation, I really like Hondo & Cortez together. Because...drama!! I knew Calvin would be kidnapped the moment Hondo & KC started talking about him. He sure was a cutie. But KC's wig was one of the worst I have ever seen.
  17. George III was my instaguess, and I couldn't get past him even though I knew the timeline was off by a century. But TBH Van Gogh would have never entered my mind anyway. hee
  18. I liked Rosie (despite her "look at me" wave at the intro), and was rooting for her. Rachel got lucky wagering $0 in FJ & Rosie missing it. I have to admit I am surprised that the judges did not give Rachel credit for Lhasa Apso with the way the judging has gone lately. TS I got were Cambridge, a man I didn't like, My Blue Heaven, Henry David Thoreau, 1980 Had no idea for FJ but Dr. Toothbrush got it pretty easily.
  19. Boring game, although Del's story was cute. TS I got were Man 'O War, Australia (how was that a TS???), 1933, Lizzie Borden, sugar coat, peaches & cream, car (no, not Speedwagon, Rachel & judges), Mohammed. FJ was in instaget. Rachel's OK, even though she began her interview Wednesday with "so", but if she continues to win & makes it to the ToC, I think she will lose in the first round. Her knowledge base isn't bad, but her wins are more about lucky categories (I think she's run more than a few), getting lucky with DDs, weaker contestants, and the judges giving her credit for incorrect answers. Not easy for me, but once Alex said it I recognized it. LMAO!
  20. I didn't notice Rachel's swaying until it was mentioned here & now I can't not notice it. LOL @ FJ because I thought, "I'm sure Mystery Author knows this!"
  21. Alex was great eye candy, but ugh cool it with the entire category name for $x please. TS I got in the J round were cayenne (despite Alex's painfully WTF attempt at a Cajun accent), muddy, Athens, St. Paul's Cathedral. Then there was evidently an issue with the local feed because the recording froze for most of DJ. TS I got in that round were Perlman, frets (Katie's missed DD), Millennium Dome. We missed the reversal of ski-mobile (I've lived in the Deep South for all of my life and even I know that answer was BS), and the category names. No idea for FJ; I was trying to think of Greek brothers. I said the same thing about the sweater as she was swaying to & fro while being introduced. Please save a seat at the nitpicky table for me. I missed the clue due to technical difficulties, but I know l'chaim from a Black Eyed Peas' song. Kultcha' I haz it
  22. I loved that Jay's first reaction to someone going to the hospital was panic that it was Stella. Most people would think about human loved ones first. Jay sure loves him some Stella! And who can blame him?
  23. Gerard was so slow, but was it my imagination or did he speed up a bit as time went on? Or did I just get used to it? I liked Adrianne, and I agree with whoever upthread said that Rachel was acting too cutesy Monday. Her deportment was definitely more girlish than I remembered from Friday. TS I got were vichyssoise, Perfume, the plague, Hansel & Gretel(Gerard's missed DD. I thought Gerard looked confused; he either totally blanked on Gretel, or didn't understand what Alex was looking for). FJ was very easy to figure out. Looking at the word helped me to figure it out. Not sure I would have been able to otherwise, TBH. I don't think it was. The clue mentioned the mezzo being no relation to Lena, but I do not think it gave their last name. But the judging is all over the place. Would Carson alone be acceptable if the clue specified no relation to Kit?
