You guys, I am done with Grimm. I started watching because it was a delightful, original, quirky show. Now it's death, betrayal, and angst. That's just not what I signed up for. I want my charming cop procedural with Scooby gang assists. Like, if I want to watch deep exploration of the human psyche I have Mad Men, The Good Wife, and Six Feet Under. The Grimm writers aren't even good at it. They should just stick to what they know. ETA: I don't CARE about Nick's journey after losing his mom and his girlfriend. I do not care! This show is supposed to be about Nick being a cop and a Grimm getting to know a new world. Nothing about his devastation and darkness interests me.

S03.E22: Before You Go Make Sure You Know
evilmindatwork replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Nashville [V]
I never expect this show to be reasonable in anyway but why would Teddy, the mayor of a major city, from what is supposed to be an old money family, NOT be lawyered up while trying to cut a deal with the fed?? I am sorry, that is so so so dumb. He can definitely afford a lawyer even if its not one from Skadden or Sidley. Also, does NO ONE on this show have lawyers? Luke just invited a major breach of contract suit by signing Juliette from another label. It's not like she's a free agent. Sorry! That stuff just drives me crazy. None of these ingenues signing their first contracts. ETA: I loved all the music on the show today. -
Is Taylor a minor reality television celebrity too? How did they meet?

I don't know how Michael was being untruthful though. He wanted Jane to focus on the baby near the end. He also told the truth about not wanting to be familiar and safe. I didn't really see a moment where he was saying what Jane wanted to hear because that was what Jane wanted to hear. Michael was just being himself, he wasn't trying to be her ideal, but it just so happened that his truth was what Jane wanted to hear.

Breaking the wall just reinforces to me how vulnerable and lonely both Farrah and Amber are. Catelynn, Tyler, and Maci treat their producers in a friendly but professional way. They reveal just enough for the cameras but mostly have boundaries. Amber seems to think her producer is her best friend and "confides" in her even though she knows her confidence is going to be broadcast to the world. Farrah alternates between tantrums and Amber level intimacy (because that's Farrah, she just doesn't treat people well). Both of the latter girls are just so lonely.

Agreed. I was really confused by this plotline because I never received the memo about hexenbiests being inherently evil. I don't think that the writers telegraphed that to me at all. I just thought she would be Juliette with hexen powers (and growing pains)...

S03.E21: Is The Better Part Over
evilmindatwork replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Nashville [V]
I'll just respond here since I don't have Tumblr account. Untrue! I've never been a "Scarlett hater" (she's one of the characters I relate to most because I have similar artistic leanings and confidence issues). I even liked Scarlett and Gunnar as a pair in the first season. I totally agree that the writers have mishandled both characters. As it stands though, Gunnar's character kind of sucks. The Zoey plot and Michah(?) shenanigans, his emotional blackmail of Scarlett make me want to punch him in the face (his rare Will rated scenes are the exception). He and Scarlett (with or without Avery) can continue to make music though-- they're great at that. -

I like Scarlett but Gunnar is awful. Too bad they're one of the OTPs for this show because Scarlett deserves better. -
Goodbye to my light, funny show. I hate it when shows that start off fun just descend into darkness. I didn't like it with Buffy and Grimm was never well-written enough to handle it to begin with. How annoying. I used to like Juliette but there's no way to recover from killing your boyfriend's mother. Ugh! Evil Juliette came out of nowhere. It would have been more bearable if the writers had spent some time explaining her motivations. ETA: I wouldn't like it but could deal with it if Juliette's descent into villainy made sense.

The Prichett-Delgados: Jay, Gloria, Manny, Joe and Stella
evilmindatwork replied to mad_typist's topic in Modern Family [V]
Honestly, I think this is a lack of continuity. I think in the early seasons Manny spoke Spanish and spent his early years in Colombia. I wouldn't be surprised if his English is better than his Spanish but I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't speak, or understand, Spanish at all. -
This!! I am a dual citizen. Green card holders do not have to wait in the non-citizen line at the airport! It's also super lazy because when you come back from abroad the line sign does say "American Citizen and Green card holder." Paraphrasing...All the writers had to do was pay attention at LAX.

Seriously, Farrah was probably messed up before but taking away that autonomy for her probably made it worse. Farrah is basically a lower rent Kim Kardashian with all the party hosting. I just don't understand why anyone wants her to do that though. Kim K at least seems superficially pleasant and polite.

This storyline really irks me because she didn't even bother to do research on her lie. Funnily enough, hormonal birth control is used to TREAT PCOS. Source: personal experience, WebMD.

I feel like maybe Debra and Michael alternately abused and indulged which is what created the weirdo monster we see today. I remember for a while my nephew and niece (maybe around ages 5 & 3) started referring to my brother and sister-in-law by their first names because they heard us (the extended family) call them by first name all the time. Super cute in little children, not so cute in teenagers. My brother and sister in law shut that down within a month but it was cute while it lasted. Maybe that's what happened with Farrah and Michael? They're such an odd family. Do you remember when she held her puppy over a toilet in an effort to potty train it? She always got super fancy, designer dogs too. At least Chelsea seems to love and care for her dogs.

I don't know why anyone wants to live in a big mansion while living on their own. I get freaked out in my one bedroom condo when I am at home by myself. Do they have live in help? I guess that would be a less intimidating proposition. What I don't understand is her eagerness to have Kylie out when she threw such a fit about Kendall.

Kim Kardashian Thomas Humphries West
evilmindatwork replied to Lisin's topic in Keeping Up With The Kardashians
There's no doubt in my mind that Kim Kardashian was a beautiful woman. Do I like her lifestyle? No. Do I think she's a role model? Nope. Do I like her style? No. She does have a naturally beautiful which is now marred by excessive surgery. I even like her original figure. Not every beautiful woman has to be thin, tall, and statuesque which is Kendall's style of beauty. Yes, she's as famous as she is because she's a shameless exhibitionist. Her route to fame was two fold though 1) the exhibitionism of the sex tape combined with 2) the fact that she was very pretty. -
It's pretty infuriating that they can't see past their MTV paycheck and secure their child's future. I am also sure that they've probably held on to the least amount of money because I bet they support members of their family (not knocking that in anyway). The thing is that I feel both Cate and Tyler would probably have been better off training themselves for a profession like Chelsea did instead of attempting to "go to college" generally. The guy who cuts my hair in Chicago owns his salon and drives a high end BMW, I know for a fact that he doesn't have a college degree but jumped right into his career. Heck, I am in law school at a top 15 school and I don't expect to be making 6 figures because I am going the public interest route. There's really nothing wrong with finding a profession and getting good at it, so many people are successful and make good money without incurring debt from college. Those kids had too many lofty goals but no practical way to reach them. I am actually disappointed with how all the Teen Mom kids (minus Chelsea who had guidance) used their MTV windfalls. None of them seemed to use it productively. I guess at least they own their house and therefore won't be homeless but even that may be a liability considering the stability of their relationship.

I feel like you've summarized the situation very well. I have been loyal to Grimm even though I hate all the Royal stuff. I veer between liking and being neutral to Juliette but I haven't watched the last 3 episodes yet because I think the soapiness will really annoy me.
-
I feel like the Grimm fan base is pretty evenly divided between those who like Juliette and those who are seriously annoyed by her though? So, it's a slightly different situation? I really enjoyed Nick and Juliette before this plot arc.

What is with the snottiness? Didn't the Kardashian family make their fortune from meat-packing? I mean someone in that family, at some point in the 20th century, had some work ethic that didn't involve lounging around in a reality show. Is it somehow less icky to make your fortune from legitimate business than it is to lounge around, eating salad, while over-sharing about your itchy vagina?

Kim Kardashian Thomas Humphries West
evilmindatwork replied to Lisin's topic in Keeping Up With The Kardashians
I think Kim is more famous because she's just prettier than Paris Hilton (or was at the time) and her family is savvier about being in the public eye. If it isn't Kim, it is Khloe etc. I only started watching the show recently but I remember being bewildered by everything Kardashian related at the drug-store or the grocery. Even if I didn't know what was happening on the show, I was pretty familiar with the names and faces. -
But you were working? At a job that was good enough that your employer felt justified in asking you not to go to school? And your program pays you to be in school! That is not the case for ANY of these kids. I mean, I know being a parent is very hard work but Bentley, at this point, is in school at least half the day. Maci should probably be done at this point. She's had the time, the resources, and the help. ETA: I guess she has a source of income from Teen Mom and it seems is working a job as a result of her presence on the show so maybe I can't knock her too much. Hopefully, she's a carved out a viable niche for herself in social media marketing or whatever she's doing. Either that, or she's spent and invested her money wisely enough from the show so that she doesn't really need to work.

For real. Only a few months ago I complimented the Grimm writer's handling of Juliette compared to Sleepy Hollow's handling of Katrina. Ugh! I've actually not been watching over the last couple of weeks because of the hexenbiest storyline. I find it super annoying and I am actually one of the people who liked Juliette. I don't see how she can be redeemed at this point. Each direction the writers can possibly take with this character seems like a plot I don't really want to watch.

Farrah seems to be the favored child in that family as well. I never hear any mention of Ashley or her baby. At least she seems to have escaped the madness because of Farrah's fame(or infamy). I think Farrah realizes that her parents are terrible, but at the same time she likes the convenience of living in their (pre-Austin), and having built in baby-sitters (she still doesn't seem to have nanny/day-care)..

evilmindatwork replied to Lisin's topic in Keeping Up With The Kardashians
I guess I've been trying to figure this out for a long time, but why is Robert Kardashian the famous one in the OJ defense team? He wasn't even the best lawyer. Was he famous for reasons other than the OJ trial? Were the Kardashians a big name in Hollywood before the tape? I can't think of a reason other than Kris being married to Bruce Jenner... But to be honest, I am 27 and I only know of Bruce because of the show. I've only started watching the show recently and I find Kim the least interesting character in the family. I don't dislike her but I find the focus on her in the media to be a bit of a mystery.
