I am behind (was on vacation) but was SO impressed with how she handled that. I was expecting her to go all dopey eyes and give-him-another-chance.

I'm confused-- they talked about a $12k tip, but also $200/person. Given that there were not 50 guests, what math is this? Or was some tip part of the "producer provided payment" and they were arguing about an extra, and somehow thought we wouldn't notice the math doesn't work?

I only became aware of the term fairly recently, but I did notice it among a few of the men last week (I don't learn their names for weeks, so can't tell you who did it)

It's more or less ending every sentence as if it's a question. Raising the tone and drawing it out at the end. "And I went to the beeaaCH(?) and then I ate dinnEEER(?)"

they were Catholic. Many Protestants to this day do not trust Catholics as "true" Christians. And vice-versa of course.

Naw he's a fitness trainer as shown in his film intro. Please don't take those catch phrases seriously. And it was "aspiring drummer" because he came in with the marching band.

Not that explains anything, but one of the ambulance guys said something like "keep him alive- the boss (or whatever word he used) wants to question him." I agree, it's kind of a weak justification. I guess they might want to know who helped them, but that's a lot of effort to go through.

Well Padme Amidala managed it with Anakin :)

I don't believe it. They must have forced her to say that too. Besides the ridiculous shaking head, he was RUDE, with that bullhorn. Obnoxious.

yeah, 27 years for me, and tons of my friends from that "epoch."

wow that is really "inside baseball" for those who *really* pay attention

S02.E04: All Chained Up and No Place to Go

I just spent 10 minutes untangling my earbuds which had gotten mangled in my purse. I *cannot* imagine how to begin to untangle a hugely heavy chain like that! I hated the manspaining Bobby was doing about "that's dangerous" "you're going to hurt yourself" to the CAPTAIN for God's sake. I had some young fellow-student colleagues at a summer job when I was about 20 and they were doing that when I was checking something in my car's engine (that I was well familiar with). Drove me bonkers. -
My thought is that making her keep him is a way to drum up righteous indignation among the "nice guys" (with good reason). Gives them a chance to show some emotion.

I can't imagine I would recognize someone I only knew as a third grader!

I believe that Stephanie used the phrase "layers of flavor" three times in the first 5 minutes of the show. It just seems like a trite, overused, thing to me. And I agree that Morimoto's new hairdo looks rather fake.

For you data geeks out there, fivethirtyeight has run the numbers on how first impression roses, date roses, one-on-one dates, etc. can give clues about a contestant's likelihood to last: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-bachelorette/

well I don't know if this is a spoiler, but just in case, NPR interviewed Rachel this morning and she said she is "in love and engaged." http://www.npr.org/2017/05/22/529467044/rachel-lindsay-will-debut-as-the-first-black-bachelorette

they haven't made a new Iron Chef episode in ages, have they? Does FN even show reruns at a regular time? I used to watch the Saturday at 5pm episodes, but that stopped years ago, as I recall.

So for those with more understanding of these times than I have: is she fundamentally in a better place being a widow of a (what? peer? whatever he was) than as an unmarried maid of good fortune? Is this a better outcome for her than never having married in the first place? Is she in control of her money now, or does it got back to her father or brother?

So no one is going to hang for Sir Howard? The matter will just drop and they'll put it down to thieves?

I have read conflicting things about freedom in England for "imported" slaves at that time, and thought that perhaps the horrible American might not have won his case going before a court here, hence he was willing to just give up.

totally agree. My dear mother always told me it was inappropriate to sit like that :)
-
That was my thought too- no real boobs look like that. And I also agree, the script seemed like it was written by an untalented 9 year-old.

One thing that struck me-- the guests were sitting down to lunch and Hannah asks "Would you like wine with lunch?" Answer "Yes, white wine." End of discussion. Really? At this price point you get a glass of whatever? Not even a varietal name for goodness sake? I would expect some sort of wine list to be available, wouldn't you?

Fair enough-
