  1. she still only has that one dress she was wearing, right? No blood on it, right? I guess the powers that be can overlook such stuff. aint' that the truth!
  2. A gizzard is sort of a stomach. I confess that the idea of eating one is disgusting to me. They have a really thick "skin" that I imagine would be extremely chewy (I've never eaten one but have cooked and cut them up for the cats. They don't want to eat them either!)
  3. Having never heard of this I had to google. As a parent of college-age and just out of college kids, all I can do is shake my head.
  4. "deceptively simple -- ruffle feathers" makes me think it's chicken.
  5. I believe I read that Atwood was on board for the more diverse casting. There's a pretty good description of the reasoning behind it in this article. Simply put, this is about a post 2017 world rather than a post 1984 world, and interracial families/marriages are far more common. Also the idea of doing a pure-white story based on the commanders' world, rather than a black and brown story based on the colonies, becomes more problematic nowadays-- like it is saying that only the white world matters. Anyway, take it as you like: https://thinkprogress.org/making-dystopia-diverse-how-hulus-the-handmaid-s-tale-updates-the-classic-3e3f9f23401
  6. I also noticed that (I think) this is the first time we've seen people have sex and actually be naked. Kind of makes it more personal :)
  7. He sure does!
  8. I am pretty sure Emily is the sacrifice. She said that "this one deserves her fate." I think this is punishment for almost killing Charles. I just don't see that the Scanwell's daughter (can't remember her name) would deserve this, in Quigley's mind.
  9. Lydia is Margaret's "foster" mother. She was sold to her as a pre-teen by Margaret's alcoholic (as I recall) no-use biological mother.
  10. In the scene with (June) and her newborn Hannah, how do you send out a casting call for a clearly days old baby? I remember the old days when "babies" on TV shows where nearly always bundled up blankets and you never saw their face.
  11. Sir George sure took a long time to die.
  12. Honestly I thought the post-it note thing made perfect sense for that crowd. Though putting butter in something for a dairy free person is bad form.
  13. I guess I see the "push" as in --- Sarah was featured on that other IC thing (Iron Chef Eats or something?) and it seems her "profiles" inside the show are more elaborate.
  14. I haven't seen the latest episode but based on the comments that FN is pushing Sarah (which I totally believe)--- WHY? We need another chef doing PASTA????? Especially with so many folks (myself included) are trying not to eat a pound of carbs at every meal.
  15. I read that synopsis and thought "Who the hell is North?" For those wondering, it is Jacob's father, otherwise known as William. Have we ever *heard* their last name????
  16. A cannabis and food pairing dinner featuring TC winner Hosea: http://www.bravotv.com/blogs/private-cannabis-dinner-colorado-sommelier?cid=soc_dg_fb_Feast_TopChef
  17. It was quite noticeable that immediately after Mrs. Scanwell told her to preach that whoring leads inevitably to hellfire (probably dealing with her own shame) Amelia preached a very modern New Testament version of a loving and forgiving god.
  18. (Harriet) It seems Harriet is in a very poor negotiating position, as the son certainly knows he can extract almost any price for the children.
  19. I skimmed through the comments so don't know if someone has mentioned this, but I think that Simone has a really weird posture. Even though I know she's incredibly fit, I get a "toddler tummy vibe" from the way she stands. I imagine it comes from the "sticking the landing" posture, but she always looks kind of odd to me, especially in the practice sessions.
  20. I was intrigued by Stephanie's "Silver Needle Noodles" (half because I have *both* wheat starch and tapioca starch from previous cooking adventures. A little googling and I found her own recipe in the top hits: http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/silver-needle-noodles
  21. never mind I'm pretty sure she was in Margaret's house, at least in their old place. Ned's son made some reference to her (comparing her to his half-siblings) when he visited. What does Lydia "do" with the deflowered virgins afterward? It seems she was selling the first girl (as what? A prostitute? Or a scullery girl?) to a woman last time.
  22. Sarah's the one who got over-heated.
  23. I thought the special ingredient challenge had flavors of the original IC. I liked the idea of multiple dishes highlighting the SI, and them being prepared simultaneously. I enjoyed the show.
  24. I was surprised that Food Network actually allowed the words "Top Chef winner" to be uttered in reference to Stephanie. Yes Sarah was kind of mean to Beverly; but Beverly annoyed people too with being a bit of a "me first" player (not that that is in itself unexpected, but there were rumblings that she brought her team down in some challenges because of it). I personally thought the hate for Sarah was overblown.
