  1. Just saw the episode in which Kelly"s dad (played by James Gregory) was admitted for a blood clot. It was refreshing to see he had a good relationship with his dad since medical dramas tend to have fathers and sons bickering often or estranged .
  2. Just caught an episode in which Endora loses her powers and finds herself temporarily dependent on Sam & Darrin. Despite the honest fear and depression that gripped Endora (since it would be a while before the problem was solved) Darrin was still rather mean to Endora and at one point suggested she stay at an old folks home! I really think the writers blew a great opportunity here. They could have had Endora a bit more understanding of living like a mortal and Darrin certainly could have been much kinder to her and sympathetic to her dilemma. We could have had some great scenes of the two coming to a sort of understanding and perhaps she could have become more accepting of him and why Sam loved him. It's not as if sitcoms didn't mix serious moments with comedic ones before.
  3. For what it's worth, from some accounts and historical research the Sabine women weren't really "raped" in the conventional sense of the word. Rome had a shortage of women and advertised to local villages that they were interested in potential brides. In some ways it paralleled the need for brides during the settlement of the American west (marrying mail order brides or even dance hall girls).
  4. I'd be happy to have a niche at all! The place I'm living in now doesn't have so much as a shelf or soap dish. The prior residents kept their toiletries on the floor. I opted for a rack hanging from the shower head.
  5. I had heard that! IIRC, she though the premise was silly. Essentially if someone with witch's powers existed, there would be no more traffic jams and other things would be corrected.
  6. Sargent was already signed to co-star in The Tammy Grimes Show, so he had to pass on Darrin. Personally, I think if Sargent had been cast at the beginning the show wouldn't have been as popular as it was.
  7. I always preferred Dick York. It was believe all that as frustrated as he was with Sam's magical connections, he still loved her. Yes he could be a bit of a jerk in urging Sam to not use magic, but them chemistry between the two was there. Dick Sargent seemed to not only dislike Samantha, but resent her.
  8. I agree with Endora's character being viewed differently after all these years. There were times she was mean to Darrin but many times she was reacting to Dariin's attitude. I think it would have worked if the two of them had calmed their feuding as the show went on. Endora would accept Darrin as Sam's choice for a husband while Darrin would appreciate Endora's concern for Sam and their unique lifestyle/upbringing.
  9. I must agree on the Gladys observation. When I was a kid the B/W episodes weren't shown in syndication. At least not in my area. The only Gladys Kravits I knew was Gladys 2.0. Having recently caught a few eps on COZI - TV recently, the differences between the actresses' portrayals of the character are stark! Alice Pearce's interpretation of the character is the superior one. Today I caught the episode, "Toys in Babeland" and I couldn't help but think Endora's character was altered for sake of plot. In the ep, Endora is babysitting Tabitha when she learns a major event was moved up to that day and she didn't want to miss it. She conjures a babysitter out of a toy soldier then leaves! Of course hilarity ensues when Tabitha learns to bring her other toys to life and holds a party in her room. I can't see Endora doing that. Serena definitely but not Endora. She adored her granddaughter too much to abandon her care to a toy. Strangely enough Serena appears the the following episode. Maybe the producers didn't want Serena to appear in two episodes in a row.
  10. Episcopalians have been referred to as "Catholic Lite". They share many things in common and are more or less equivalent to Anglicans,
  11. Part of Mary's issues stemmed from real life events. IIRC, she was butting heads with the producers and starting to get a bit big for her britches. She was also seeing the actor who played her boyfriend on the show. Eventually, the producers got fed up and had Mary get sent away to her grandparents but the boyfriend stayed on the show. It was set up that whenever Beil was back on set, the boyfriend would not be on set at the same time or not in an episode at all. I don't know what the idiots were thinking when they had Matt marry Rachel. For one thing, different religions. IRL, that marriage wouldn't have happened much less worked out. Despite my appreciation of comedian Richard Lewis, I can't see his character (a Reformed Rabbi) allowing the union . Not to mention virtually no buildup. Kind of reminds you of sitcom characters who fall in love with people you never see or hear about onscreen until the finale (or the character's exit) when they announce they're getting married quick and running off somewhere.
  12. I hadn't seen the series since Season 3 and I happened to catch it on UP this week. One ep of interest was "No Sex, Some Drugs and Rock n Roll". I tuned in only to see so much wasted potential. The ep was centered on drug abuse/addictions but I think it should have been about responsibilities and the choices we make. The reverend"s old band shows up for a gig and to reunite with their old bandmate. We get a taste of where this storyline could have gone when Rev Camden wonders what it might have been had he not gone to divinity school and continued with the band. The guys mentioned they had no families to speak of (but ex wives!) and they were on the road most of the time. It would have been better to have had them interact with the family more. Enjoying home cooked meals, the routine of day to day life, playing with the kids , etc.. Essentially making them wonder if they could have chosen a more stable life . Instead we got the ridiculous coffee addiction and the Reverend's apparent inability to recognize the smell of weed (vs incense) was just stupid. I can't help but wonder if this ep was ordered by the suits to discourage drug use . Worst of all Peter Tork's talent was completely wasted here. I also wonder if the producers were trying to get the Monkees together as the band since they had thei 30th anniversary in '96 and completed a successful tour in '96-97.
  13. It seems the new series never came to fruition. Interesting, since it could have been an opportunity to reexamine the universe. It would also be interesting if we learned if Tabitha married a mortal or not (probably) and explaining where her witchy relatives are. I also agree with Tabitha's daughter having a name ending with an "A". It would be fitting if she were named Cassandra rather than Daphne.
  14. Here in NV, until recently it was legal to become a stripper at age 18! Although most were not going to school by day like Alex. The age difference is still real though. Heaven knows how many younger women are wined and dined by men old enough to be their fathers - or even grandfathers! I disagree. There is a lot of bad behavior in Hollywood - not the least of which is sexual abuse of minor actors. A friend of mine whose father worked in the biz told me how one studio in particular would pass around their tween/teen actors around to various suits. This is one big reason why so many child actors often are emotionally messed up. If I had a child who was a performer, you better believe I'd be on set every moment the kid is and never let him/her out of my sight.
  15. IIRC her character was supposed to have been from (or living in) Virginia. I know Virginian's accents can vary, but it wouldn't have been such a bad thing for her to have kept it would it?
  16. Has anyone used prescription meds for weight loss? My cardiologist recommended I use Invokana (along with a weekly shot) to battle the bulge. I've been loathe to use meds (I've tried eating clean - no fast food and supplements) but it never seems to work long term. Worse still when I asked him how long I'd have to take it, he said, "Life". I do NOT like the idea of being dependent on this. He said if I stop taking it, my appitite will return in spades and weight gain will be the eventual result. I admit I've tried just about everything and nothing seems to work. I spoke to one of the med assistants at the office who has been using this drug for over a year. (whom he brought into the exam room with him to discuss the options) . It seems to have worked for her and she says she hasn't had any side effects other than ccasional nausea (which according to her, comes on whe one eats too much in a meal). The drug also makes you pee more - to flush the sugar out of your urine and encourage the body to use fat for energy. Does anyone here have any experience with the drug (or knows someone who does) and their thoughts on this?
  17. I use a CPAP and I have the traditional headgear with the gel filled cushion mask. I got used to that fairly quick - I go back and forth between side and back for sleep positions so it still works for me. Perhaps you could try changing the mask and sleeping on your back.
  18. Actually, I heard it was the opposite. Both Drew Fuller and Wes Ramsey were interested in continuing their roles in a spinoff if it had occured.
  19. True! So far not impressed by what little is provided. I think it would have been better to have had a sequel series with Wyatt and Chris . However I also like the idea of a prequel . I used to think a series based on the Charmed cousins (Who lived in the Manor in the 1920s) could have worked as well.
  20. I found it at the same link you posted about it ending. It seems they updated the info after the post.
  21. It seems the comic won't end in April after all! I'm curious where they can go after the events of the comic.
  22. I'm familiar with Ruff & Reddy - they were HB's first made for TV cartoon (1957-58). It was shown briefly on Boomerang a few years back. I found it interesting but a bit tedious. They were a dog and cat who were best buds who stumbled into various adventures. IIRC, all eps were done in installments, the next episode picking up where the previous one left off. I don't recall seeing it in syndication when I was a kid although just about everything else HB did from the Flintstones onward was. It's interesting the upcoming comic seems to re-imagine them as nightclub entertainers - not unlike Martin & Lewis or Rowan & Martin. I've been reading Future Quest and definitely been enjoying it as well! I had always wished the HB heroes got together for a huge "save the world" adventure, and for the most part, this comic delivers. I do have some quibbles (adding an Impossible for the sake of "girl power", killing off Professor Conroy in favor of his wife in Frankenstein Jr., changing up Mightor - but at least they had a plausible explanation for it in universe) but it's been a fun ride so far. I haven't seen too much of Scooby Apocalypse but I appreciate trying to change up things with the characters. I'm not crazy about the character art though.
  23. My niece is nick named "Pooh Bear" (I'm the only one in the family who uses it though). It began when my sister was preparing the nursery and went gaga for all things Pooh. Of course, my sister couldn't make it easy for any of us - all items with the Pooh motif had to be from the "Classic Pooh" line. That is, items that had Pooh images based on the original illustrations in the Milne books. She was adamant about not having the Disney version of the character. Despite this, the name stuck and I've called her that ever since. She's 20 now. She has a nickname for me - which originated from her being unable to pronounce "Aunt [Magicdog]" when she was little. She said it once and it stuck to me like glue!! My Mom called me that nickname till she died - and even told me she wished she'd used that nickname when I was growing up. I never had a nickname before - but I love it .
  24. My father, who used to work as LEO in NYC used to love this show. He did tell me that the majority at One P.P. are cops who transitioned to HQ. In theory, someone like Garrett could be someone who was a street cop for a while but perhaps had a college background in marketing/public relations. Of course some people are just naturally good at politicking.
  25. Otherwise known as how much of a beyotch Jane Seymour can be! I also found this one a likeable movie but it really played up the schmaltz regarding the classes (orphan girl to be adopted by another aristocratic family, the Queen doing her darndest to humiliate her future daughter in law, etc.). I remember this one too! I remember seeing it twice but not in a long time! I thought it was a hoot that Charles Bronson played the editor, Francis Church. One thing that always bugged me was that the family was depicted as among the poor immigrant Irish with barely a penny to spare. From what I've read up on the real family, they were closer to middle class, as the father was a doctor. In this film, it ends with him getting a job as a cop. In the early 70s there was an animated version of the tale - I remember seeing that one several times in the 70s and 80s but not since.
