  1. That's true, there usually is a combination of things, but I had a friend who was told by someone she admired, she had a big butt (she didn't) and would probably always have dark circles and was always sensitive about it. More going on there but it didn't take much. My Mom was influenced by others and would point out what others said about my weight hair, etc whether complimentary or not, the same look or weight would evoke so many opinions. It actually made me not care early on, because I saw how arbitrary it was. I only see a tiny fraction of people who had bypass or other stomach surgery for weight and it can be successful but "just wanting to be thin" is not enough. So many seem to get it without a good psych consult or followup. I've seen about 8-10 over the years and more failed or caused harm than helped. Most gained weight back, which is normal, but some you can't tell they ever had it. A few were successful and changed their lives in all areas so still get counseling, changing your eating is easy for a while, then it's harder. Chrissy could lose a lot with surgery but she could also hurt herself trying to go back to her old habits. She can also do it without surgery, slower, but I know if he wanted too, she'd get a lot of support.
  2. I watched that episode recently. I thought Jerry should have gotten some kudos for his instincts being right. The only thing that was odd to me, was that no mention was made of calling authorities or what would happen (even off screen) to find her and have it not happen again. Yeah, the way they treated Doug leaving always seems off to me. He would never have been quite that reckless or just leave. I can't believe the writers (unless mad at Clooney) would have him leave that way, going across country and not caring about baby. Julienne was leaving in a year, lot of plot ideas to keep him in touch until she goes after the twins are born.
  3. The thing with Dr Charles and Reese's dad seems so wrong. He's treating his resident's psychopathic father who is lying to her and Dr Charles and it's just wrong. He's doing a disservice to her and should never have said yes to him. It would have made a lame script but it would have been believable. She always has that blank look on her face, does the director want that? I am hanging in there but found I FF small segments of it this time. Maybe when I stop watching ER on hulu, I'll be less irritated.
  4. Ah yes, that was a popular snack then. It is a hot pocket...what kind, that will be a mystery ; )
  5. This might show it a little better.
  6. My brother had one of the first car cell phones. It was large like that and hard to hide, someone broke his window trying to get it. It was a quarter or a dollar each time someone called or he made a call and my dear Mom would call him all the time (her baby and only son) He would get so angry, she didn't grasp just the call even if not answered caused him a fee. Oh well, the price of wanting the latest technology right away. ; ) It is funny to see them using charts and then on Chicago Med, they have tablets. But then they had a show where a ransom virus made everything stop so they had to use the "old fashioned paper" lol Good and bad with both. My daughter said the same about Ross with the water drain episode "where's his phone!!" I said, even with a phone it could have gotten wet or been dead, nothing is perfect but phones do help in emergencies if the people involved aren't taking too many pictures.
  7. Kate and Randall were just shown pretty much on a couch in a nondescript living room. If you can see this tumblr post, it shows the scene they showed in that flashback. Kate's eating a hotdog and laughing with him. https://www.google.com/search?q=randall+and+kate+watching+sex+in+the+city&client=firefox-b-1-ab&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjyso_r8_vZAhVDj1kKHWc0CdgQ_AUICygC&biw=1366&bih=631#imgrc=wzpNV9rleWYs7M:
  8. That was touching, I thought both his parents did a great job, his dad was very believable and his mom, played by Bonnie Bartlett (my kids were like that's Mr Edwards wife from LHOP) was also wonderful. I also liked the camaraderie he had with Doug on the trip also. Thanks for the reminder. I forgot they knew that long, I thought he gave them a year or so. I was busy having my own real twins at the time and didn't read a lot about background. Then they really should have done it better. My daughter was watching it with me for the first time and she's like, "Why is he being so impulsive, so reckless" after being so good and I told her he had to be written off and they needed to make him unbearable. She said, he should have signed up for a Doctor Without Borders type of service for a year and then kept in touch with Carol and she could have joined him when he was through wherever they went. I told her that's nice but the writers had their own ideas. I also thought although it was romantic, when Carol went to see him impulsively, knowing Doug would be there waiting for her not out on a date was brave of her. ; ) Back then, they could actually keep that part of the episode a secret much longer than today. I feel that way, with long running shows, like Law and Order SVU , it's dark to begin with and it gets stale with story lines. I liked shows like Cheers, MASH, Everybody Loves Raymond, most went on a little too long but ended it before it got old and stale. It seemed the writers didn't care if it was a hit, they never really relaxed and coasted. ER was so much better written than most. I watch Chicago Med and it's like General Hospital, no depth or character development. I like that they don't have many cell phones and people aren't attached to their devices as much but it is cool to see them talk about things we use now on a regular basis like PCA pain machines, computers, discussions about the long hours for docs which have been shortened in many areas, Hep C now has a cure.
  9. I agree with you, but even if they do, I don't care enough to be drawn in. It is what it is. I don't like feeling manipulated. If someone is sick, it will be far in the future and I hope we have less of that vs present and past.
  10. I was thinking about long term characters and how hard it is to write them off at times. In This is Us, a popular show now, it would be hard to lose some of the "Big 3" and still have a good show, MASH did it well, but always had a couple of favorites just in case. On ER, when Clooney wanted off, the writing got a little skewed to me because they made him do so many things, so quickly, to have him have no choice but to leave. It didn't seem natural to me then and doesn't now watching it on Hulu. Carol and Doug went from extremely close to "See you" Then the twin angle didn't make sense to me, she doesn't tell him, then she does, he can't make appearances so it just seemed "off". When Susan left, earlier in the year, it seemed more natural, she wanted to bond with her niece and Greene and her hadn't really dated. I realize Clooney wasn't "ER" but the writing got a little less realistic during that year. After that season, there were some excellent shows, but do others think the writers got a lot more lazy? It still makes other shows pale in comparison, but that's because so many today are even written worse. ; )
  11. lol, I was thinking the same thing, it seemed so raw. I know I would be somewhat taken back if someone told me it had been 2 decades. Definitely a sign that there is something a little off when so much of the running around was about Jack, the toast, the dreams, I almost thought is she marrying her Dad the way she was dreaming as of as a child? I hope this is a fresh new page next season and they don't show too much of that melodrama anymore. I can see Kate, if they had children, taking her kid to get ice cream all the time because her dad did or trying to imitate things to recreate them for her own. Some of that is healthy but not unless she sees the good with the not so good.
  12. I wonder when we will see these cuties? I can't recall seeing this age group often, must be harder to keep on the set very long.
  13. Another 4 million scratch off winner and doesn't want to go over 260,000. David joked could he please up that? lol They wanted to share it with family but lived in CT (my home state) and had some cute smaller homes to look at. Very low level of things they wanted. I like sensible but I know David is waiting for the more exciting show.
  14. Yes, Dr Charles is too smart to act the way the writers are making the character act. You don't pick up a patient in a room in a hospital and give him pills without talking to him and making a chart. He finds out who he is and keeps seeing him? He knows he is lying and keeps seeing him? He isn't even a good liar, he told Dr Charles he only wrote her twice and then changes his mind and story later in the day. Sounds dangerous to me and just another emotional turmoil based on a bad script coming up. They could have done much more with that premise and not directly involve Dr Charles as his doctor but just some good investigative work. They could have some good stories with Dr Charles and PTSD, depression, seeing children who are or potentially school shooters, a lot of good stories in the making if they want to write them. I really liked the short segment where he saw how an ER patient didn't walk off a curb looking at his phone, he wanted to hurt himself, something Sarah wouldn't have caught, his experience helping and intuition. When he talked to the patient later, in his own pain with depression, I thought it was a short but emotional moment. I hope for more.
  15. I agree, I remember a lame interview saying they would "redeem" Miguel slowly, didn't want to upset the fans. Please, I don't think having Rebecca enjoy the company of another man is hurting the memory of the saint that graced their lives. I want to see her happy. Two decades passed between Jack's passing and Rebecca didn't have to have a run of bad relationships or gain weight in grief to show she loved him. Their actual life showed that. If others refused therapy or refused to talk about the sticking points that made them unable to move on, that's not Rebecca's fault. Miguel is a nice, patient man who knew Jack, warts and all and the jokes of not being able to talk bad about him are silly now. His need to be loved caused Kate issues in many ways, even the ice cream nostalgia for me was laced with "but that was a spiteful gesture because he couldn't say no and see her sad face". I like Jack, I just don't like when people see him as perfect. I hope we see maturity starting next season and Rebecca having a strong voice, not walking on eggs. At her age, it's not attractive and she should be able to say her peace with Kate and not second guess everything that comes out of her mouth.
  16. I like David Letterman's show on Netflix with George, mostly going home to his Dad's house and neighborhood, you might like it if you have netflix I really enjoyed it. I also like how a young actress who was on the first ER shows (played a young pregnant teen) who gave George kudos for sticking up to the brass who wanted Julienne to lose weight (why I don't know) She overheard him say to someone "did she tell them to f**k off?" and the guy said "yes" and he said "Good!" She thought he was "old" at the time, but fell in love with his attitude and support. I liked it too. ; ) http://www.vulture.com/2018/02/david-lettermans-netflix-show-and-george-clooney-interview.html
  17. It also made her the "bad girl" that put a pale on Kate's wedding (as if the toast by Kevin didn't) No one noticed she walked off but I'm sure you'll get the reactions later.
  18. I'm just on the beginning of their meeting, the Halloween party, etc. I dread that episode, you know it's coming, but you try to avoid it. The one with Gant was bad enough
  19. She might be related, but that would be a huge twist. ; ) I know the show will fill it in (probably) but they cheated us on why the change, they rushed the "gave her up" and talked about personality change, but no mention of therapy or her feelings being validated. The pretend game of "worse case" really isn't funny with a foster child. I also saw Fogleman saying big Vietnam episodes next Fall (I hope they honor it well with accurate background) and Toby and Jack meeting Rebecca, but what of the aftermath of the home? There wasn't any followups of what the kids did later, the house inspection, getting any viable things out (you know Kevin got the picture from the box in garage of Nicky) but even the scene of Kate talking to Kevin in the car, hard to see how they will integrate that in later. I personally would have liked the Deja episode to have been in the Fall and that fire episodes and wedding to the last.
  20. I think many do, many don't. I didn't either, when something is too contrived, I can't. I cried watching Forrest Gump at times, many sad movies, the tears are usually because something touches me. I'm hypersensitive, like you, Folger's commercials got me but except for some funeral lines, nothing like tissue boxes empty. ; ) They push the envelope and sometimes for some people, that backfires. I was angry at the fire and how inaccurate it was, how contrived the ER scene was, I knew what was going to happen when Becca walked out, but I also knew it wasn't accurate and later Milo said they cut out a lot of that to make the fans be a little more in the dark (cleaned him up a little, less coughing etc) Hello? Fan aren't brain dead, they knew he was dying that day, it seemed the writing was all about melodrama and I think feelings get muted when in overdrive. I still feel, but the tears come when the writers just hit different notes.

I still feel, but the tears come when the writers just hit different notes. I did cry when William died.
  22. I've seen and heard all kinds of scenarios with foster children. Most families aren't equipped for the run of emotions these kids have unless well prepared. As they had her friend Raven comment on, shifting around without a firm ground underneath you, never really being loved, the "outsider" to the family dynamic, abused many times, makes it hard to bond with people. It's not a natural thing to live that life. Some kids do better than others but some will always test to see how much they can do and still be accepted (not loved but kept) Deja has abandonment issues and if Beth's sister is the only one that has talked to her, no therapist or person to help with the transition , then shame on the writers. I'll wait and see next year. You need if keeping the child for a long period, to enforce the rules, show love, etc. but you can't expect a nice home and bed to be a cure. Randall wanted to do the right thing, but unless they treat her past with the present, the nice bed and food isn't going to be enough. I'm interested how they deal with it, that much anger needs to be addressed. I thought the person talking to Deja about looking like Randall knew he wasn't her dad and something just clicked when she looked over at him. This story line I never liked, too rushed, too cliche, too much for melodrama. ( The poor, unappreciative black foster child, puts a crack in Kate's perfect wedding and ruins her saint of a foster father's car further scarring Tess and Annie) I hope it improves.
  23. I don't watch Chicago Police much or Fire but I think the writing is better on the few I caught. They can make this show much better with little effort. My husband said they dummy down when people accept it, which is why older shows like ER, Law and Order, MASH, so many to list, were on 10+ years and still are strong. I hope they up the ante a little and give the show some fresh air before the finale. I sneaked a peek at the next 2 wks on TV Guide and it seems kind of same old. "Upon hearing news of a pregnant teen, Dr. Manning and Dr. Choi venture to a homeless encampment to help deliver a baby under dire circumstances. Dr. Rhodes and Dr. Bekker argue about the best way to treat a young boy with a chronic disease. Dr. Halstead and April are put in an uncomfortable situation when they find out their patient is a pedophile. Goodwin and Maggie have to deal with a lawsuit against the hospital. Dr. Charles learns of important news pertaining to Dr. Reese's father."
  24. I thought Kate's dream would make more sense if she was dreaming of her dad at her wedding, walking her down the aisle, looking at her, not renewing vows with her Mom. I'm glad Miguel didn't hear that, his patience is immense but please. It's been 20 years. My dad has been gone that long, I miss him and wish he could be at my son's wedding, see my kids graduate and I picture him watching, etc. but this attachment seems beyond the pale. TIU even made Kate's wedding about Jack. If it happened the day or week before, her letting go, it would make more sense, the rushed scenes of her spreading ashes, trying to get ice cream, etc. seemed too rushed, but hopefully better received by others. I would have liked a healthy "Toby/Kate" centered episode just about them. Re his parents talking to him before, a little late, but my Mom did that with my sister, before and the night before. She just knew at 19, (he was 28) she was too young and couldn't see his immaturity, and she was right, they divorced sadly in 5 years. I thought it was nice though she told her, "Don't think about the cost, the receptions, dress, nothing, I will gladly trade the cost for your being happy and never bring it up again". Well to fair, my Italian mom probably would have brought it up again, but not the cost, hard as it was to save, she just wanted my sister to be happy and not pressured and to see the dynamics of the relationship clearly. Toby's parents probably saw the dynamic with Kate but hopefully would have brought that up much earlier.
  25. I felt the same way, and even my 24 year old daughter who came in the room during that scene, said, "They work out recently and need to show off" lol Such an obvious ploy. I find April so stiff and plastic, I just can't see her with anyone and although I don't feel comfortable criticizing makeup, I do find her eyelashes distracting. (sorry) I know some of it is acting and some of it script, but I feel Natalie and April are more "soap opera" figures and others have the talent to do more with better writing. It's an art to do short segments, ER did it well, bingewatcing that now on Hulu, but I realize I can't compare. I love the character of Dr Choi and Dr Charles and hope they have more interaction especially with Choi's PTSD issues. The Reese/Dad thing, please make them go away soon.
