  1. Yes, I am aware of that. I was referring to federal loans--At the very least, Rory would have gotten an award letter stating her eligibility for federal student loans. That's always part of a person's financial aid award. Even if Ivy League schools don't give out merit scholarships, a person like Rory would have applied for a bunch of outside scholarships. I know she got the Kiwanis (?) scholarship for $250 but I'm sure she would have gotten others. The valedictorian for my brother's podunk public high school received $800k in scholarship offers alone (he applied to several colleges, the $800k is obviously not from just one school! LOL). I can't believe a valedictorian from an exclusive private school whose mother has limited financial means wouldn't have had more offers. I get why they did it this way, but it was a lazy way to keep her obligated to FND.
  2. Today I saw the episode where Lorelai gets a letter from Yale that Rory doesn't qualify for financial aid. I'm sure this has been covered, but what bullshit. First of all, a school like Yale likely gives nearly everyone some sort of scholarship. Two, there are special circumstance petitions and a one time increase in income that Lorelai got could easily be documented as an aberration in her income and not likely to happen in subsequent years. They would review her tax returns and see what her income usually is. Third, Lorelai is a single mom and probably doesn't have a huge income. Rory would have qualified for something. At the very least, she would have gotten some sort of merit scholarship based on her GPA and class standing. Lastly, Rory could have taken out some loans like the rest of us! I also watched the episode where Taylor sends Lorelai a letter about changes to the Dragonfly needing to be ok'd by the historical society--this is one of the episodes that make me want to punch that annoying fucker right in the balls. He is especially annoying in this episode.
  3. I think enough of them look their age that it would be implausible to have them only be a few years older if they did some sort of reunion movie. Keiko and Liza in particular, to me look their age--don't get me wrong, I think they are both stunning and look great (love Liza's short hair!) but I just think they can't make it seem like these characters are 26-ish). They would have been about 22 when they graduated from college. At any rate, it would be interesting to see what storyline they would come up with for a reboot (whether a movie or limited series).
  4. Not only that, but since everyone has aged a bit, it's quite likely that Rory might have a child or two of her own...and having Lorelai be a grandma might be strange! (assuming they don't mess with the time line and pretend that just a few years have passed--although the cast overwhelmingly looks good, it seems like a stretch to do that)
  5. What's all the talk about the final four words of the series? Is there supposedly some dialogue that didn't happen? I saw some references to that yesterday and don't really know what it means.
  6. Previously.tv has a live event twitter too: https://twitter.com/PreviouslyTVNow
  7. They have come a long way! I used ones similar to these with my younger son (he's 10 now). I never would have done it if I had to do the white diapers and pins! I gotta believe it would be easier for Jill to use cloth diapers in Nepal, as long as she has access to water to clean them.
  8. Hi fellow Clevelander! Not to get too off topic, but this was by design (the Cleveland kidnapping victim and no one knowing where she lives). I listened to an interview her lawyer gave on the Sound of Ideas not too long ago and he talked about that. I'm glad for her and hope her neighbors continue to protect her privacy. I'd love to know what Derick thinks about this whole thing. I really don't think he subscribes to the idea that women are responsible for the actions of men. I wonder what Cathy's husband thinks. We all suspect he didn't care for the circus before, so he must certainly be giving the Duggars the side-eye now.
  9. Aren't Jim Boob and Michelle wearing the same tops in the above pictures that they wore last night? It looks like he is wearing the same shirt, but hers might be different.
  10. I'm not sure I can watch this thing. Ugh. The clip alone made me furious. I just want to punch Jim Boob and Michelle. They are such dicks.
  11. It looks like she is wearing black pants, so she is fully covered. No defrauding knees, here!
  12. That is what sticks out to me the most. It's kind of unusual to assemble so much of the cast of a tv show when it's not even for an anniversary type of thing or a special event.
  13. So much hatred for Keg! Max! I just watched that one, is it really that bad? :D Dear Emily and Richard Lorelei out of Water That Damn Donna Reed A Tale of Poes and Fire
  14. I'm in the thick of the Jess episodes. As much as I dislike the character (what a whiny asshole malcontent), Milo is very handsome. I think every girl has to go out with a guy like that at some point, right? The kind of guy who has zero interest in your life and is kind of a dick about it but for some reason it makes you like him more. He never wants to do what you want to do or hang out with your friends, but you stick with him because he's really cute and a little bit of a bad boy. BTDT!
  15. Be sure to check out W.O.M.A.N. I love that one. I've had the latest Vaccine's release on constant play lately. It's not often that I get into newer artists, but I really like the Vaccines.
  16. I have a feeling that this interview will go the way we think--it will be a bunch of bullshit, adoring staring, weak explanations etc. And I think the public who tunes in (let's face it, this show will draw ratings because people are probably very curious to know what these two assclowns are going to say) will be a bit outraged at the Duggars. The Duggars no doubt said yes to Fox because they view it as a "safe" environment. I sure hope Kelly at the very least ASKS the questions that should be asked. Doesn't mean we'll get answers but I would love to see Boob and Mechelle squirm.
  17. :::jots down notes::: Those are some handy pointers! LOL
  18. Another thing about Emily that I don't understand is she knows how much it sucks to get treated poorly (because Richard's mother is oh. my god. awful!!) and yet she rags on Lorelai all the time. It's like she had absolutely no self awareness at all.
  19. Yeah, it was totally weird to see what S4 and beyond Emily was like and then start over with S1,2 and now part of 3 and see how she is. It's like, really? Later Emily seems to have regressed from earlier Emily in so many ways. It's frustrating, because in those moments where we see some humanity from Emily, it's really enjoyable---only to have them taken away by the next absurd illogical action/reaction of Emily. I feel like the first real sense of love and respect for Lorelai is when she graduates from business school. That would have been a place for growth but they still went back to the well of Evil Emily after that.
  20. My Gilmore Girls journey began a few months ago, when I would sometimes catch and episode on ABC Family during the day. I didn't watch with any consistency but just enjoyed what I saw. I started more seriously watching the show when I realized it didn't require my full attention and I could watch the show while I worked (I work at home), so I started binge watching episodes. I started with season 4, I think....and then worked my way through the end of the series. Now I've gone back and am watching the first three seasons. I am up to S3 E8. Now, my reason for starting an Emily topic. After watching most of season 4 and all of 5-8 and now 1 and 2...I'm finding the character of Emily to be frighteningly uneven. It's a wonder Lorelai managed to keep any sort of sanity because it seems like with Emily you never know what you're going to get. One episode, she's trying to bond with Lorelai and later in the same episode she's giving her the cold shoulder. Or, episode to episode Emily could be borderline tolerable swinging all the way to completely unreasonable demon woman. What saddens me the most about her character is that over the entire arc of the series, she never really grows (I've mentioned this elsewhere). Sure, in the last episode, she's sort of ok (as pleasant as one could expect Emily to be, I guess) but she and Lorelai never really mended any fences. Emily never seemed to come to respect her daughter. I know Lorelai agreed to keep coming to dinner, so I guess that was something? What do you guys think? I feel like we saw growth and change with Richard...I mean, he was essentially still the same but by the end, he managed to say some things to Lorelai that were really touching. I felt like he came around a bit, unlike Emily.
  21. Because they really have no obligation to? They may not be celebrities on the level of Julia Roberts, but even the Duggars think they are entitled to not answer any questions they deem inappropriate. That's my guess, anyway. I get the sense that the public and media were curious about them because they are outside the norm, and people wanted to know more about them. So they had the power. They could say "Yes, we'll agree to an interview, but here are some things we won't discuss..." If you are a media outlet, you want access and you are willing to agree to their terms to get a story--because coverage of these weirdos gets viewers/readers/ratings. It's a mutually beneficial situation--The Duggars agree to an interview given certain parameters. They get exposure, which translates into money. The media company gets a story that may get them ratings/pageviews, which also translates into money. Right or wrong, that's just the way it works, I think.
  22. Why would this be a clue that something is wrong? It's very common for interviews to be set up this way. If you are a reporter, sometimes the only way you get the interview is to agree to ask only specific questions or questions about certain subjects. Sometimes, specific questions are off limits (ask them and the interview will be over) Politicians, celebrities, personalities...they all have interview criteria. This is really not unusual.
