I liked this episode better than the first two. Very funny to watch Sam escape her whiny spoiled brats. I have memories of taking a new mother to the beach while her husband watched a toddler and infant, and how my friend didn't even look back - just cranked the radio up to max and bounced all the way there. I didn't catch the name of who would look after them, but she did name someone. Maybe it was her mother. It was wonderful to see a grown-up Elliott. Very cute.

For those interested in Holly's next steps, here's a link to her new website. She's offering herself as a coach and performer. http://hpmoves.com/portfolio/ Interestingly, she has apparently toned down the dark red hair, and also she references the midwest. Wonder if she moved her home base to Missouri.

Holly was genuinely upset when they called her in the first time about her weight. I think she was still determined to submit to the rules without complaint in order to be on the team. When they called her in a second time, again on camera, and chastised her in a very severe way, she was humiliated. Based on the contract as well as the underage drinking law, she deserved to be confronted. But I think being used for TV ratings is what pushed her over the edge. Perhaps she found out that Jenna threw her under the bus. I would have felt the same way - embarrassed, then angry.

7 nannies, followed by the baby sleeping through the night for the first time while her parents are out of town. Part of Monroe's problem is her parents' behaviors. I betcha all those fired/quit nannies tried to tell Jeff and Gage how to do things better, they didn't listen, and by the time the latest nanny arrived they were too exhausted to get in her way. Monroe does indeed look like Jeff - she has his lips. Agree that the Siegel thing is show filler. David Siegel is a creaky old lech and Jackie is a clueless hoarder. I watched them horrified and fear for their children and pets. I think we saw Megan's first formally-produced talking head, yes? And she's featured in the intro. So she's finally a true cast member. Whoever said Jeff has sold out is correct. He has the right to live his life as he chooses, and it's clear he's always had the acting bug (having worked in a casting office), but at one time he tried to actually work as a serious flipper and designer. That's all gone now - he spends most of his time working on his own properties (endlessly) and appears on this show. And is reduced to having Lea and the Siegels on his show. Good thing Gage steered him towards the speaking engagements and product offerings.

Maybe Holly quit because the suspension was the last straw - maybe she was already becoming increasingly unhappy (bored, frustrated, tired) with being a DCC. It's wonderful to be a dancer but the grind, especially combined with school and/or work, dieting, all the rules and no DCC salary (one of my pet peeves), takes a toll. Underage drinking is not safe and she surely knew better. But many of us have been there in our misspent youth and I can't savage her character and name because of youthful mistakes.

I think Captain Lee is phoning it in.

Thomas Ravenel & Kathryn Dennis: Will He Put A Ring On It?

It looks like a Chelsea cut. -
Kate looked really tired in most of her charter scenes. Maybe that sleepover with Jesus? Crew members have breaks...or they don't. Which is it? I wonder if breaks are contractually/legally obligated for "real" crew members. I feel a bit sorry for Chris. I'm very familiar with fundamentalist Christianity and what it does to your psyche, and he is probably quite immature and socially inept compared to other guys his age. It's a real challenge to break away from that culture and integrate into the real world. I thought some of the charter guests looked familiar. Bravo is really cross-pollinating its shows.

All I could think about was getting that panting dog out of the hot sun. Sitting on the concrete made the heat worse.

Because she spent all of her time drinking, partying, shopping and having lunch with Brandi? Nice try Stephanie: claiming that she missed Cruz's learning difficulties because she spent so much time on "Brandi's issues." That's an especially foul move, implying that she was somehow taking care of Brandi's problems (i.e., blaming Brandi). She told Cruz he was lazy when he was having problems - WTF? And her learning session with Cruz seemed extremely fake. And she managed to once again cite the cost of renovating her new house. LeeAnne knew the mic was on when she made that nasty comment about Mark. She's trash. Interesting that LeeAnne's doctor has ALL rave reviews on Yelp, and Mark does not. Wonder how many nannies Cary will have while she's a SAHM? I'm pretty sure Brandi is a drunk.

Spec with Spoilers: Everyone is Both Southern & Charming!

My belief is that the obnoxious Thomas and Kathrine drama are the ratings draw. I hope Austen returns. He's a palate-cleanser after a helping of the above, not to mention Shep's competitive, drunken aggression. -
I assume she's promoting herself for her next career move. Her experience and skills are based on everything she has done.

Regarding giving advice and corrections, I believe one of the group leaders told K&J that other candidates were asking Gina for help.

S02.E06: Don't Cry Over Spilled Tea

Yeah, I thought during season one that she didn't respect him, and she undermined him through the arch asides and the shade she threw. They are both manipulators and right now she's trying to make the viewers think the fault is all his. She's also trying to be "Switzerland" in the disputes between the housewives. -
I question this also. Many businesses have not recovered from the recession. Although Jeff or someone else referred to David Siegel as a real estate developer, the documentary left me with the impression that Siegel made his fortune in time-shares/resorts. Are consumers really spending their hard-earned cash in time shares these days? Maybe Siegel branched out elsewhere, but it doesn't seem that enough time has passed for them to be rolling in massive amounts of dough again. He's known for making exaggerated claims; they strike me as self-promoting hustlers. I bet they don't intend to use Jeff - just appear on his show. I haven't forgotten how they allowed one of their children's pets to starve to death. I think it was a caged snake sitting in clear view in a child's bedroom. Besides cruelty, that indicates some major dysfunction going on. Jeff is aligning himself with some trashy folks.

I don't think Jenni does much in terms of the business. I think she shows up as a "character." I think the same has been true for some of the others who have "worked" for Jeff.

I have to defend Gina a little bit. Some dancers, singers and actors are introverts when they are not on stage. Some people focus on the task at hand to the exclusion of schmoozing. Women can be very petty about that kind of thing and get cliquish in group situations. And women get criticized all the time for being confident and looking after their own interests, especially by other women. I think underneath her no-nonsense attitude Kitty is a bit of a mean girl, ready take down anyone she thinks is "uppity." It sounded as if the group leaders didn't have any problems with Gina but shared what some other candidates said about her. Good for Judy for stating that one possibility is that there might be a misunderstanding, which balanced out Kelli's unfortunate use of the word "toxic." Also, I think Gina was repeating what her teachers and coaches had told her at one time - that sometimes others are jealous of someone with talent. We saw a lot of women hugging her when she came out of the sessions with Judy and Kelli so clearly she has made some pals. I felt really bad for her being confronted about her personality on camera. And I still hate seeing the weight discussions on camera, only because I know how women really beat themselves up about gaining just five pounds. On a lighter note, the improv dancing was so much fun to watch. As was the etiquette lesson.

S02.E06: Don't Cry Over Spilled Tea
pasdetrois replied to OnceSane's topic in The Real Housewives Of Dallas
As a cynic of all things reality TV, I think Cary is laying the grounds for divorce and child support. Step one: sudden desire to stay home with your child. Step two: reduce your time spent working at your husband's business. Step three: profess devotion to staying home with the child and improve your motherly image. Step four: increase the shade hurled at your husband to empathize what a jerk he is. Step five: ask for massive child support, sole custody and part of the proceeds from the business in your divorce and custody petition. However, I don't feel badly for Mark. He's selfish, Sahara Desert-level thirsty, quite bizarre and doesn't give rat's ass about his youngest child. -
The jail time is probably a mini-vacation compared to being on the streets. I wondered if they were checking for probation violations, but your explanation Rinaldo makes more sense.

Still enjoying this. I'm puzzled by the paycheck scenario because it doesn't seem like enough profit for the lender. There was something about additional and/or fake paychecks that must be the key. Is this ultimately a money laundering operation? Maybe this will be a nudity equal opportunity series. We saw the two porn guys' genitals. I hate it when only women are shown nude. That porn theater, with our two characters surrounded by hookers giving blow jobs, gave me the creeps. It was like a BJ assembly line. Can someone explain what the police meant by "show and prove?" Great perspective. I grew up in the South and have never thought of this.

I'm not sure it's legal to require someone to hold a job or be in school for anything.

They went after one of the vets for her weight, but not Holly, who looked just as "thick." Maybe they counseled Holly off-camera. Every time a candidate gets criticized for her weight, I can see the dreaded cycle of poor nutrition, eating disorders, and depression take off for a young woman. I wish they would handle all of the weight critiques off-camera.

I mostly liked the series, which I binge-watched in a hotel room. I could tell that at least some of the audience laughs were real, but others seemed recorded. Either way - annoying. The jokes and puns were corny but still I laughed at most of them. I think there were too many characters; get rid of one of the two female sales associates and have stoned mom in less frequently. Also, it didn't work for me when the show veered toward the serious stuff. It's hard to integrate comic/drama tones into short episodes. I liked the Dank/Dabby duo. The Dabby character is unique and so is their pairing. They are a lot to take but I thought Dabby's riff on the beautiful blonde was genius. I wonder how much of the dialogue is ad-libbed. Dabby dominates her scenes but Dank is also hilarious. The two have great comic chemistry. I also like Carter. His stoicism and disdain for everyone were funny in the beginning, then he started getting high and I thought he was less funny. I could do with less profanity. I think it's lazy writing and hackneyed. Oh and...yes to anything with Kathy Bates.

Top Of The Lake - General Discussion
pasdetrois replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Top Of The Lake
I appreciate the season's theme - parenthood, especially motherhood in all its forms - but the execution was surprisingly bad. Half the time I didn't know what the heck was going on. I raced over here after viewing the last episode to see if there were more episodes, because the thing didn't seem finished. I enjoyed seeing the Tarth actress again. I believe Nicole Kidman's vanity usually ruins her acting choices, but in this case she let some of the vanity go and good for her. It was good to see glimpses of how the sex shops work, less we forget the misery endured there. I thought those actors were the most realistic. I'm just gonna ignore the laughable nose-biting scene, the wheelchair-throttling-and-curtain-fire, Tarth flinging off her baby bump, and other very unfortunate directing choices. Despite all the drama near the end, all I could think about was that Robin got drunk, had sweaty sex, vomited...and then ran around for two days, including traipsing around a hot sandy beach, without showering and a change of clothes. Surely she reeked. -
I noticed that the baby is slightly propped up much of the time when she's awake. Lea Black was on Real Housewives of Miami and she's married to Roy Black, an attorney who has defended William Kennedy Smith, Rush Limbaugh, Joe Francis and Justin Bieber. No wonder Lea repeatedly requested iced tea - she's very thirsty. It seemed to me that Jeff's therapist was putting words in his mouth to make him look sympathetic on TV. Chaz's business complex renovation has been one of the few projects I've liked. What a shame they have to start all over. I don't blame Gage for not wanting to be a fulltime SAHD. Anyone in that position loses ground financially and professionally and he knows it. If he stopped working Jeff would control him completely through finances. Also, Jeff would nag Gage for not working and still depend on him for business stuff. In other news, Jeff is still an asshole. He relentlessly pokes at Gage. It's a wonder Gage hasn't clocked him. Gage could blame it on exhaustion and baby anxiety.
