  1. Well, for one, singing and chess aren't considered athletic activities. Athlete: a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise. DanceSport meets the definition of both a sport and physical exercise.... sometimes, it's even a contact sport (shout out to my poor partner who always ends up getting bashed in the head) ;-) ETA: and as far as the judging, yes, it's subjective just like figure skating, but there are specific skills required for each of the dance styles mentioned above. International Latin is very different than American Smooth. Legs, body shape, holds, syllabus, etc. A viewer can obviously tell the difference between a waltz and a rumba. But a judge (and a dancer), knows the difference between a straight leg and a bent leg and how well it was executed. I can understand how someone would view it as simply a talent. But this shit is hard and it takes far more than talent to win.
  2. Thanks for the explanation on the different styles. I was initially happy for Muhammad and the attention she received. Then, I saw the team match and..... not so impressed. While obviously she's clearly more talented than I'll ever be, I feel most of the hype is about her hijab and not her ability. With my untrained eye, she seemed like the weakest link on the team.
  3. I love to watch but I'm completely clueless. What's the difference in events? Foil? Eppy(sp?) I saw a US guy get silver yesterday, but then a different guy got silver a few days ago. Why aren't they both competing in the same events?
  4. As a DanceSport competitor it saddens me that it is not an Olympic sport. There's no reason it shouldn't be. There are competitions in almost every US state and obviously, many elite international competitions. Not to mention the collegiate teams. It's a legitimate sport and long overdue to be included.
  5. Not sure who you're referring to, but I'm definitely one who posted my opinion, only to realize several had already posted the same thought prior. (guess I really should have read the entire thread before I put in my two cents). While I'm mostly a lurker, I certainly have posted before. I also don't believe it's trolling. I was watching with a friend last night, who is not a book reader and does not frequent any boards, and I said, "She is terrible!" My friend immediately replied, "Oh my God! Thank you! I didn't want to say anything!" While it may appear troll-ish to those who disagree, the majority may just have the same opinion that she was not good.
  6. Oh, I forgot to mention I loved the journal entries and the nod to the book fans. I saw Bahamas and another location, that I forgot, but it must be where the encounter in Voyager ends up. Good stuff. As much as I didn't like the actress that played Bree, I found myself actually eager to get back to the 1968 storyline. Weird... I guess I like Roger and Bree in the buiks more than I realized.
  7. Not quite for me. The book describes him with black hair. I envisioned a big guy with jet black hair. But, I can go with this Roger. He did a great job and he had modern sensibilities that will do well with his fish out of water story. Plus, he was completely believable as an awkward dude with a crush. Loved him. I respectfully disagree. Beautiful girl; terrible actress. She completely took me out of the story. She was clearly acting. I don't want to see people acting, I want to be brought into the fantasy. I will be verra pleased if they change the actress. In this cast of immense talent, she does not fit in at all. Loved the changes to the book, except for the end. When I read it I was heartbroken. 20 years is such a long time! I was in shock. I couldn't believe the author would split up the couple for 20 years! I'm pretty sure I actually shouted, "No! No! No! That can't be!" The way the show portrayed it, it will be no big deal. We just saw them together in the last 5min of the show and we know she'll go back. It will significantly lose the impact of the reunion unless they hold off her return for half of the season - but they can't do that because there's too much story to tell. So, I predict she'll make it back within the first two episodes; completely downplaying the heartbreak and sacrifice.
  8. I predict Jaime will kill Cersei but then kill himself right after. He always said he couldn't live without her. Tyrion will survive all of it and remain Hand of the King/Queen Agreed about the wall coming down. I think all of the Night's Watch will die at that battle and the wall coming down will be the final moment of the season - Leading up to the final season. Clegane Bowl has to happen! They've been setting it up since Season 1.
  9. I think Season 7 will show us: The end of the Lannisters (except for Tyrion) The White Walkers approaching the wall and a battle Dany gathering support and on her way to King's Landing Bran won't make it to Winterfell - he'll be distracted or held up somehow Arya continuing her revenge tour
  10. [Edited because wrong thread for this] Jamie has made it clear he will not tolerate the loss of innocent lives due to wildfire. He killed a king just for the threat of it. Now his sister has actually done it. My speculation is Jamie will kill her, then commit suicide. ETA: No, wait. One other scenario. Arya wears Jamie's face and kills Cersei, then Jamie finds her and kills himself. Oooooo...
  11. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. For me, they introduced it perfectly and naturally given the setting of the show. How many scenes have we seen with men groping women in a brothel? You go get some too, Yara. That girl did have a fine ass.
  12. Damn it! Seeing this repeated made me laugh out loud... at work. Well played.
  13. I wanted to love this show, I really did. But to echo what others have said: Katie is an insensitive bitch. Shut up, Katie. I fully believe there would be riots and looting even after this short time. People look for opportunities. I do not believe people would run out of food after a week. Most people only go grocery shopping once a week and still have plenty of food stock piled. This is not believable at all. People would also not look like they haven't bathed. Most reasonable people would shut themselves in their home and carry on as normal. One would think the national guard would suit up and go in to keep the peace. Yes, they'd have to stay in there, but I can't believe they wouldn't have the authorities go in. I see in here the show has been cancelled. I didn't realize it was meant to be a long running series. I thought it was supposed to only be a mini-series with limited episodes. Does the cancellation mean we don't see the ending or does it mean we just don't get future seasons?
  14. I complained last season that "Fear the Walking Dead" should have some........oh, I dunno.......actual FEAR! Instead we got "Days of our Walking Dead" I will never forget the episode when they first saw the drug dealer and Nick ran him over with the truck. Maddie and Travis just stood there like, "Well.. that was weird. Let's go home and have dinner." Me? I'd be going, "What the fuck are you doing you just ran over your friend and he's getting back up again? FUCK! FUCK! What the fucking fuck is going on! Holy shit! You're running him over? Oh my shit fuck!" But ya know...FEAR
  15. I am SO far behind, but I just finished up this season and finally started the new one. Reading this, after watching the first episode of the new season cracked me up! If you only knew....
  16. Oof. Apparently I'm the queen of unpopular opinions here. I. Can't. Stand. Strand. HATE that character. You do not need to speak every fucking line like you're auditioning for an Old Spice commercial. Dear god, shut up with all the damn cliche's and hurry up and get eaten! Every line he speaks is just so damn over the top! In fact, he's actually ruining the show for me. *ducks from flying tomatoes* Also, I see nothing wrong with what Alecia did with the radio. Again, this all just started. Everyone is running to safety in some fashion. It's chaos, and in a crisis people typically comfort each other, even strangers. Especially strangers! In a typical crises, humans want to help each other and band together (see 9/11). Yes, we have the luxury of knowing what this world is like several years later. But right now, in their timeline, what she did makes sense. It's completely normal. I like Nick. In fact, I found him kind of attractive in this episode. (ack!). That moment with Ophelia caught me off guard and I was... whew... I approve. I approve of this new Nick. I approve of them together, if that's where this is headed. While Chris' actions annoyed me because (once again) we know what this world is a few years later, in that moment my heart breaks for him. Yeah, he's a brat. Yeah, I still kind of want him to be eaten for being a jerkface, but his dad shot his mom in the head! I mean come on! That's gotta mess him up really good. He still doesn't get it. Even in the army base at the end of the season, he was mostly in the parking garage. I don't think he truly understands. He's a dumb teenager, and his dad shot his mom in the head. I'm willing to give him a pass..... for one episode. Now for my questions: Why was Nick going for the boat log? What is it and why in the world is it so important? How did he even know it was there? If they had time to pack, why didn't they pack food? Why are they having to eat eel? Strand made it clear he had food at the house. Why not bring it? It's the first episode of the season. Why were there no deaths?! ONE death in the entire last season and none in the opener? Pick it up. It's already boring as it is. Why are the showrunners insisting on skipping the actual important storylines?! The fall of LA - nope, we will skip ahead 9 days later. The bombing of LA - nope, we'll just show a bunch of fire and hit the tail end of it. ARGGH! You could have had everyone where they were from last season and the bombs going off. That would have been scary. Nope. We will just fast forward over all of the compelling parts and show you eel fishing. Fuck me.
  17. I would join Negan's group and I'm a full on, obnoxious bleeding heart liberal. In fact, I'm an outright socialist. (maybe that does make me crazy after all) I believe we should all take care of each other; particularly the sick, children, and elderly. I believe it's our duty as humans to take care of each other... ..and I'd join Negan's group in a heartbeat. It's a kill or be killed world and while I would hold out hope that humanity still lives, I'd join the biggest, baddest group out there. The promise of protection, food, and not dying would be too great to not join. Sign me up.
  18. Writer's thought process: We need to kill one of the "originals, but it can't be Rick, Carl, or Michonne But that leaves Glenn, Daryl or Maggie... But if we kill one of them, the fan base is going to shit themselves. They'll spend all summer pissed off and refuse to come back for the next season Oh! I know! Let's leave it as a cliffhanger and make them come back. Then we can kill one of them and they'll be sucked in to continue watching! Great idea! Any other character (Abe, Aaron, Eugene, whatsherface) wouldn't have mattered. They could show it at the end and we'd still come back. They only reason to make it a cliffhanger is because it's a fan favorite and they feared fans wouldn't return. Based on Negan saying "Champ" and how sick Maggie is, I think it's reasonable to rule her out. Therefore, it's Glenn or Daryl. Either one of those would create fear of fans not returning and fuel the need to wait until next season to keep viewers. Here's what the writers didn't think of: I now have the entire summer to be OK with Glenn or Daryl's death. I'll be prepared and the shock moment will be gone. You should have had more faith in your viewers. We would have come back, and it would have made a great water-cooler moment.
  19. Late to the party, but just binge-watched Season 1. One thing that struck me was in the beginning of the season, Jamie and Claire were discussing his scars and the horse (keeper?) knowing that he'd been flogged. For me, what he says there has significant meaning to this episode. (paraphrasing). "It's one thing to know it, but seeing it is something else."
  20. Godammit, Kring! Season 1 was a masterpiece. What the fuck did I just watch?
  21. Random thoughts: Jesus - I love Jesus. (Huh. That's a sentence I never thought I'd type). That perfect comedic moment when he flew off the roof, stood up, paused, and ran. Rewind. laugh. rewind. We needed a refreshing mysterious character! Ha! I love you Jesus! Coral's Hat - Awww man. All the hat bashing. I love the hat. It's filthy, it's old, but it's a callback to his childhood and his hero. He's a man now, he's grown up too fast. The hat is a great reminder that he's still a kid too. He needs the hat. I smile every time I see it. Denise - Huh. So in the zombie apocalypse, a can of pop is the same as flowers. That's right, I said pop. Minnesota represent! Richonne - Apparently I'm clueless because I didn't get any sense that they were together in the beginning of the episode. As always, I just thought they'd lived together and were comfortable friends/roommates. It wasn't even a blip on my radar that it could be anything else. Them getting together at the end was just so.... perfect. It was simply perfect. It wasn't a TV show's unrealistic portrayal of passion. It was real. It was organic. It was the difference between lust and love. The initial tentativeness, the testing, the confirmation, the laughing, the acceptance and just letting go. Gah. Chills. And this is why I don't think there was any negativity of Rick and Michonne together. It wasn't forced, it was the opposite. It was beautiful. I only hope they play this right. I don't want constant PDA or change who they are because of this. I don't want mush. I want electricity. I don't want kisses. I want a meaningful look. I want them to get down to business and touch each other's hand, but just briefly. I want a connection. I want them to continue to be who they are and accept each other for exactly that. They introduced this in a way I could never imagine. Let's hope they maintain it. Overall - I'm always dismayed when I hear complaints about episodes like this being "boring." We need this character development. We need to breathe in between the chaos. We need to feel again after devastation. I don't need big explosions and carnage every week. That's what is boring to me. I need a good story. This one was amazing.
  22. I'm positive all of these are old news, but just in case you didn't know: The Governor was on Doctor Who (and I hated him just as much) Daryl was on Charmed for a couple of episodes. He dated Rose Mcgowen's character and seemed like a great guy. Only she found out the next episode that he was married with kids. Maggie was on Supernatural
  23. Hard to explain what I mean, but I was more referring to the actress rather than the character. I understand she was supposed to be the "lesser" Chanel, but the actress missed the mark for me and that only highlighted her other "flaws."
  24. A little late to the party. Thoughts on the finale: Way more deaths required. Too many people survived. Chanel #5, Zayday, and Grace were all expendable. (Chad, Denise and Chanel #3 were the only ones worth saving) Chanel #3 owns me. Speaking of #3, we no longer do "number 2" in my household, it is now "number 3". Thanks for that. I know Emma R. and Lea M. have their haters, but I thought they played these roles brilliantly. Chad also owns me. I thought the changing underwear bit was on purpose. It was so ridiculous it couldn't have been an accident. For me, Chanel #5's weight only became an issue because the actress seemed to lack the confidence required for the role. She wasn't awkward because she was overweight, she was awkward because she could not pull it off and that made her weight more apparent. Another actress could have been the same weight and rocked the role.
