  1. From what I skimmed looking for other information, that's the gist of the story. I wasn't saying that Genevive would be a stand in for Sophie, just pointing out that it's erroneous to say she's a prostitute on the show. If they decided to have her as Benedict's main love interest, they'd have to change the outline of the story completely, so I very much doubt that will come to be.
  2. She's not a prostitute. She was just having an affair with Benedict. We had no indication of money or any other form of compensation exchanging hands.
  3. I was convinced at one point that they'd reveal that Tully was a result of rape, thereby connecting her story to her mother's. I know the actress playing Cloud gets flack, but I don't think the actor playing Kate's brother was anything special either, yet theirs are the stories I'm actually interested in aside from what happens to teen Tully and how she and Kate reconnect. I also thought he'd come out after Bud's death given that he' d been keeping his secret for some 30 years. Good for him. And good for Julia finally knowing.
  4. Which, unlike the high school bully tweet is totally valid. That ruching is certainly a choice. I didn't even notice it in the embedded Instagram post in the article. Hee.
  5. Found this on Instagram and it cracked me up so I wanted to share.
  6. Plus, providing for your brother's widow was normal. I know Marina’s not George's widow but it's not surprising that a responsible guy would see her now as his responsibility. This took me out of the story because Marina’s objection seemed to be ew, not George's brother and that just felt too modern for the era when this sort of thing was hardly unimaginable. Even if there was no pregnancy.
  7. IMO the biggest focus regarding changes is to be on people who are NOT the season's couple. That's why we had Anthony’s, Benedict's and Colin's romantic entanglements this season, Eloise's feminist leanings and Lady Whistledown having more of a bite. You can't have characters fading in and out of focus as easily in a TV series as you can in a book series. Not least of which is that you need to justify paying your cast and giving them reason to hang in there when they're not in the spotlight strictly speaking.
  8. There obviously have been big changes already and we can expect this trend to keep going. However, changing the main couple in a romance novel adaptation is huge. Some people thought the show was building toward an Anthony/Sienna storyline next season and we're still getting Kate. It remains to be seen how next season will fair first of all and how far the series will get.
  9. Except for the part about Philip being able to marry Eloise.
  10. I'm frankly shocked by how many people who've read the book imagine Kate as plain. That's her perception of herself, but it's not true. As you said, it's more about how she carries herself and frankly how she deals with other people, i.e. men. She bosses all dudes around in her self-appointed role as Edwina's guardian. It's done out of love, but you can see how early 19th century nobilty didn't find that to be the feminine ideal.
  11. I just think that they either need to switch to colorblind or acknowledge race more fully next season. This season it was sort of in between. It doesn't matter until it does. And it matters until it doesn't. They need to pick a lane and I hope the fact that they cast a darker skinned Indian actress means they chose acknowledgement and exploration of the issue.
  12. Easy, racism and colorism. I assume that's why they chose to go this way with the casting in the first place.
  13. Great news about the casting. And it also got me thinking that this might be a way to include Simon more next season. If the Basset family's position is as wobbly as Dead Dick of a Duke said, this could be some common ground for him and Kate. Layer on top of that that she's a woman and, presuming they keep this part of the book, lacking the insulation his wealth affords him.
  14. It's so great that Instagram got this right. I am looking forward to exploring the farther reaches of the British Empire.
  15. Plus, the Queen was obviously bored out of her mind. These balls and gathering were the only place she had power.
  16. The presumption is that Daphne being a hit on the marriage mart and bagging a Duke would paint the whole family as a success and attract suitors of a similar ilk for her sisters. We've seen a variation of this with Simon 'faking' interet in Daphne bringing in other suitors in droves. Of course, the plan could always backfire and the younger girls later being compared to Daphne and found wanting.
  17. She didn't give birth on the show. It's I guess partly a book spoiler.
  18. https://www.vogue.co.uk/arts-and-lifestyle/article/jonathan-bailey-interview Interview with Jonathan Bailey for the British Vogue. No spoilers.
  19. That Diane Sawyer interview sounds really bad too. I will say one thing. that tweet about "sucking a bag of really bad tasting dicks" is delightful.
  20. I don't want them to do stuff simply to absolve her. Since they went in this direction, I've been hoping they would use it as an opportunity to let her character grow and grow up. This doesn't need to be swept under the rug, but be part of forming Penelope's character as she becomes a grown woman. She needs to reasses her actions and their consequences, think long and hard if this is how she wants to use her voice and public influence. What she doesn't need is to be shown as a victim of someone else's manipulation.
  21. There's been no casting announcement so far. He's been doing alright for himself. In 2018 he won the Lawrence Olivier Award for his role in the revival of Company. The recording of his audition for The Last Five Years shows his acting and vocal range nicely.
  22. I think he's just being upfront here. I doubt he's seen the scripts yet, so all he can commemt on is the book.
