IIRC, Leandro sensibly didn’t want to start a family until he was finished with school and established in his career so he must have been in charge of the birth control. Apparently there were only 15 contestants in the Miss DR pageant to begin with, so the odds of making the top 10 were pretty high! I also suspect Nicole automatically made the cut because of the American camera crew was there to film it. From the Reality Tidbit article: "When Nicole began sharing her Dominican Republic pageant journey on The Family Chantel, viewers instantly began rooting for the reality star."
