  1. This is the first sentence of the definition of Hipsters from the Urban Dictionary: Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. It goes on for several more paragraphs. I don't find any of those qualities unappealing (just the Indie-rock, but I don't like much of any current music). I don't think Neil acts like he is too cool. But then next to Sam almost anyone would seem cool.
  2. I'd say it's a tool to sell you shit you don't really need and can't afford anyway. Instead of good old Ivory you now must have a Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar for only $45.
  3. I've been doing a little research and apparently the book and the show are based on the myths and fairy tales about Nixies which are water spirits (sprites). Victor may be a water spirit that wanted to live as a real little boy. I guess there is a lot of info on reddit, but I don't have time to read it right now. Water certainly does play a big role in the series.
  4. Apparently he doesn't even own a shirt and tie as well as not owning a suit. I wonder what he wore to his wife's funeral.
  5. I'm confused. At one point I thought the children were going to meet the person their parents picked before agreeing to marry them. Then it sounded like it would be married at first sight. Which is it?
  6. I can't believe she is a bank manager. I wonder how many people are closing their accounts after seeing her on this show.
  7. I watched one episode and loved it. Then I read that it was going to be cancelled, so I didn't want to get invested and disappointed. I'm still not over Firefly.
  8. It's too bad we have to spend so much time inside of the head of the most unreliable narrator of the four. Noah is self loathing and self pitying. He is also adept at creating fiction as long as it's based on his own life. As Noah's feeling about Alison "descend", we the viewers are brought along for the ride. I don't know who Alison really is, not because she doesn't understand herself, but because Noah can't be bothered to really get to know her now that the blinding passion is gone. I think that Ruth Wilson's talents are really being wasted this season.
  9. In an early episode this season, Victor tells Julie that he is growing because of the love she feels for him.
  10. It didn't hurt Joni Mitchell's career. I don't mind the name Joan ( I love Joan Baez ), although it does sound dated compared to a modern name like Whitney. Out of curiosity, I went to Baby Name Voyager. The most recent year they had rankings for was 2013. Joan was ranked 350, but Whitney was 592.
  11. http://www.people.com/article/married-at-first-sight-producer-explains-casting-process This is an interview with one of the producers. He mentions Tinder. Isn't that a hook-up app?
  12. I saw it. The coconut doesn't fall far from the tree.
  13. I thought Mr. Lewanski was gong to say that Victor/Louis was actually his brother who died young. Anyway, I think that Victor may have died well before the first flood.
  14. I think you are completely wrong about this. The majority of people want to marry their own race, their own religion (if they are strongly religious) and their own ethnicity or cultural background. I'm sure you can find racists who want nothing to do with people of other races and that would certainly include marriage, but that is not what you are saying.
  15. I so much agree with this.. My major complaint about this show is Abby and all the story lines she's been given. I can't stand the character. She is such a snoop, I wish she had found out about the spying and gotten herself killed. I'm sure the show felt like they had to have a young attractive couple in the center of things to keep viewers interested. But Frank and Liza are far more interesting as a couple and as separate characters. Even Fritz and Jeannie were better characters and a couple than Charlie and Abby.
  16. I also checked and it is word for word what she wrote. Sarah has her own POV.
  17. Sarah Treem said that she wrote the part with DW in mind. She thought he was the only actor who could really play the part and was thrilled when he agreed to do it. I think she sees him as a person and actor who has a natural likability that will come though no matter what. That isn't happening. I have a problem with DW as Noah and with his character in The Hour. In both parts he is meant to be a handsome, sexually attractive man. Tastes vary, but I think he looks like a frog, and he also looks about 10 years older than his actual age. I love Ruth Wilson and think she is a brilliant actress. She can sell any line of dialogue, except when she told Noah how hot he was. Nope, I couldn't buy it.
  18. That was my fantasy outcome at tribal and I'm still having trouble believing it really happened. And Ciera out too!
  19. Do people really go to Grad school to write romance novels? Harlequin will take samples or complete novels from pretty much anyone, regardless of credentials. About 30 years ago they were so desperate for writers, they had ads everywhere.
  20. What if Helen was in the car with the person who did it? Even Martin would have a learner's permit by this time. ;-) I'm very interested in the mystery part of the story. I've read at least 2,000 mystery books in my life, so I'm looking for an unlikely character as the one "who done it" Noah is becoming too much of the classic Narcissist who is filled with self loathing, so to me he is now a bore. Also, his POV memories are probably corrupted because of the book.
  21. Agreed. They both have the most unnatural color and worst styles.
  22. The current generation could all end up in prison and I don't think Ma is going to take the fall. In fact I could see her turning state's evidence against her son's to keep her ass out of jail. Cherry is my least favorite character. She is highly manipulative and vicious. I think she is even worse than Helen's mother, who is more in your face and "what you see is what you get". Cherry is all warmth and compassion one moment and then verbally eviscerates you the next. I think she is the Lockhart curse, and I would not be surprised if she killed Scotty.
  23. Richard Chamberlain was one of my first TV crushes and I think he is still handsome at age 81. There was a kind of rivalry between Dr Kildare and (Dr.)Ben Casey. Does anyone remember City Hospital ?
  24. I assumed it was gold ingots because of the weight, but don't know how that would specifically help Lizzie. I do to have to admit I don't follow the plot of this show very closely because it greatly decreases my enjoyment.
