Yeah, I was thinking, “Stop waving that thing around out in the open!” Apart from that, I thought it was a great episode. Iorek was terrific - his voice makes me think of Optimus Prime 😄 I continue to be impressed by the dastardliness of the Magisterium’s upper ranks. I’m rewatching the first season of the Crown, and Will Keen (who plays Father MacPhail, and is also Dafne’s father) plays one of the Queen’s private secretaries - and he has hair! I’m also liking LMM as Lee Scoresby, and Hester too. The bar fight was a good scene.

Yeah, they never explained how Jimmy and Alice knew each other, yet when he went to her apartment for the party in the first ep of season/series 5, they seemed to be old friends... Casting note: James Cosmo, who played the crime boss Arthur McCall in s3, is playing Farder Coram in the BBC/HBO adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials.

A few years ago, the BBC did an absolutely outstanding version of Shakespeare’s history plays (Henrys IV and V, Richards II and III) with Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, Jeremy Irons, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Sturridge, Sophie Okonedo, Adrian Dunbar, and a bunch of others I’ve no doubt forgotten. It’s available for purchase on iTunes, but it’s not on Netflix or Amazon or Hulu AFAIK. Oh! And by way of connecting this post with The Crown, Ben Daniels (Tony Armstrong-Jones) and Ben Miles (Peter Townsend) also appeared in the series.

Not that I noticed...

I have to agree with you. I love Olivia Colman, but I found her Queen to be almost too emotionless. Maybe that’s how the directors intended her to play the character; however, I felt that Claire Foy infused a bit more emotion into her performance. The scene that I found most touching was the one of Margaret and the Queen at the end of this episode, when she did actually show some emotion. I don’t know; maybe this season will grow on me a little when I watch it again. I honestly found myself dozing off a few times while watching.

Those repeat episodes are airing today and tomorrow in Canada...the ep with Neil’s funeral is still as sad as the first time it aired.

I think the portrayal of the daemons is very well done in this series - the scene near the end when Lyra and Pan, along with Farder Coram, were running to Ma Costa and Tony, showed Pan flying and then turning into a weasel/ferret/marten in the blink of an eye. Just as I imagined it while reading the book. I thought the scene where the golden monkey was holding Benjamin’s hawk daemon down was also well done, and when the hawk died, she just dissolved into Dust, which was a clever touch. When Lyra learned to use the alethiometer, I would have liked to see more visual effects to show how her mind worked while using it, and how the meanings of the symbols came to her.

Gosh, she and Summer look a bit alike! Alyvia has a new YA dystopian series on Netflix.

I will just say that I fell in love with Wales after reading (and rereading, several times) Sharon Kay Penman’s Welsh trilogy of historical fiction, and frequently think about which actors would be ideal choices to play Llywelyns Fawr and ap Gruffydd!

I always remember my Francophone neighbour when I lived in Ottawa - she was from Berthierville IIRC - one time she cautioned me to not “à côté” myself “on the poteau there”, referring to the freshly painted porch railing 😄

I enjoyed the first episode 👍🏼 I’ve read the original trilogy a few times, and just finished the second book in the Book of Dust trilogy (The Secret Commonwealth). I thought the Magisterium headquarters was suitably menacing.

“Close My Eyes Forever” was a favourite of mine when I was 18 or 19...back in the day when I liked hair metal 😄

I would like to get Britbox, but I already subscribe to Netflix and I’m seriously considering getting the new Disney streaming service solely for the Marvel content 😄

Forgive me if this is a stupid question (it’s late and I’m tired 😄), but are you in Canada? If so, you can watch the eps on the CBC website or the Gem app - they have the last 30 days’ worth of episodes. Unfortunately, if you’re not in Canada, Gem is geoblocked.

I saw a clip on Twitter of Gail talking to Bethany, and her bangs are so long that they were catching on her eyelashes. That would drive me bonkers!

I’ve only watched the short clips on the official Corrie twitter page, and even those are enough to make me cry!

I went back through a Corrie updates site that I follow, and according to that, she found out that she was pregnant at the end of April. Supposing that she was about eight weeks/two months along when she found out, that makes her almost eight months now.

I haven’t watched for almost three months, but I am still following the storylines on social media and googling spoilers 😄 I can’t bear to watch Sinead’s storyline 😭 I have read the spoilers about the birth of Gemma’s quads. It’s just so unrealistic that it makes me angry - in real life, there is every likelihood that she would be on bedrest this late in her pregnancy, never mind traipsing around to soccer games or up in a cable car! I mean, come on. I understand a little suspension of disbelief, but that’s ridiculous.
