  1. Let's see if I can explain. At work I have a boss. As my boss he has authority over my presence in the workplace, my workload, my output, etc. Part of my contract implies that I accept and agree to this. That's what I mean by respecting a position. If my boss is a jerk, I might not respect him, however I am still obliged to respect the position. Suppose I am a misogynist who has a woman for a boss. My employment contract requires that I respect and work with my boss. My personal code might not respect the woman at all because of my own prejudice. Of course this makes for an extremely difficult work relationship but I have seen and heard too many "on the rag" type comments over the years not to know that this often happens. Suppose, in the context of the show the bosun was female, and the deckhands all male. Can you see how that could be a challenge for some guys? I can see all kinds of potential "aye, aye bosun (bitch!)" conflicts. Instead of "hysteria", we'd have "testeria" as the guys grappled with their dilemma. ETA: LOL - I just noticed that next week's episode is titled "Bitch in Charge."
  2. I wonder how much influence Barr had over the writing and the writers. Were the previous runs done as an ensemble cast or did Barr insist that the program be written Barr-centric. I can easily see her throwing her weight around. I did not watch the past runs because I've always disliked her. With this in mind, I am hoping for a much more even-handed, ensemble-type of show. ETA: I love the idea that with Roseanne out of the picture the rest of the family manages to find their own successes in life.
  3. All this demanding "respect"! An employee should respect a superior's position but the person doesn't automatically get it. It's earned.
  4. He looked so haggard and grief stricken. It was perfect for the part he's playing but I hope that's not what he's left with after the serious weight loss.
  5. None of us do, nothing but speculation anyway. They're saving that reveal for next week. All that happened was that Ross told the captain it wasn't his place to say anything but........... [cut to commercial].
  6. Loved this! I had a hard time envisioning what they were going to do with Fillion as a rookie but damn, they knocked this one out of the park.
  7. Your comments made me realize that's what I expect from DW. I started with Tom Baker's DW, and his Companion Leela who was running around in buckskins. The cheesy-ness has continued all these years, is delicious, and I love it. It's what makes DW in my mind.
  8. Mine, too. I remember a time....... well, actually, many times! They were always there for me, thank god! Sadly many kids, even in TV land, don't have that blessing.
  9. Hee, I want them to meet Henry VIII and have him fall for one of the companions, determined to make her his queen. I guess in this iteration (1520?) that would be the "exotic" Yas.
  10. I love the new Doctor, but I'm not feeling the companions at all. Right now they feel like so much dead weight the Doctor is hauling around with her. They do provide an audience for her incessant chatter so I guess they have some purpose. I'm on the fence about the new Tardis. It does seem dark but I'm hoping they will lighten it up soon. But I love the Doctor's affection for her.
  11. Netfoot - Was that before or after he surreptitiously developed the heart transplant in a secret government lab, and then taught it to Dr Barnard of South Africa?
  12. Of course he does ?. I don't know how else you could write the character and still have him be relevant, but sometimes his mere presence annoys me.
  13. When it's not their cheek that's being harassed, it's easy to do. Especially when something they have a,stake in (job, family - don't make waves) is being threatened. ETA: I can see another reason why Murphy buried the memory. It doesn't fit with her self-image of today. That shaken 19 year old doesn't fit with the strong hard-nosed reporter Murphy has created for herself.
  14. Given that this is a game based on alliances I lean towards Angelina. I'm sure she and her new husband talked about the whole thing - the necessity of alliances - before she went on the show and after as well. Jeremy is all kinds of pond scum to try to use her to justify his failures this way, but then his treatment of Natalie has already proven that point.
  15. I am so glad to see this here. I hate his play-by-play crap. I mute the sound during the challenges just so I don't have to listen to him blather on and on and on.
  16. Director Vance??????? NCIS, anyone? Along with "Kelly Taylor"? What's up with these writers? This might have the potential for a drinking game.
  17. Finally getting to watch this week's episode. Paying special attention to her eyebrows. They should have their own show. She's got thicker eyebrows than her brother Ben does. She is going to be for ever more known to me as The Caterpillar Lady.
  18. I was so glad to see Jeremy voted out. He was exhausting to watch. I would watch the clips of the David tribe where they're all strategizing and whispering to each other and carrying on and then they'd switch over to the much more mellow Goliath tribe and it was like a mini vacation, except for Jeremy. Heh, crab races! And I did not like Jeremy's know-it-all attitude. That was dancing on my last nerve. Natalie? She's become mildly amusing, watching to see how far her delusional arrogance goes.
  19. LOL That 'splains a lot! ? Thanks
  20. Jeremy said something about getting up at the butt-crack of dawn. What the hell is the butt-crack of dawn? Those are 2 words (3?) that just have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Where this phrase come from?
  21. Lived there most of my life, graduated from Culver High in '66. Moved to FL in 2004.
  22. I was wondering who got to clean up after Foam Boy's self-indulgent solo wallow? And what, did they rinse out the hot tub and hose all that foam over board into the Tahitian waters? I love Foam Boy's guests. Yeah I'd love to go yachting in Tahiti with you, but don't expect me to hang with you except at meals. Anyone suspect that the fiance is in it for the ka-ching? I know, I'm such a cynic!
  23. So he is going to punish the entire crew because he could not get his crew member off the dance floor and back to the boat? Works for me! #GoodTV
  24. "That town" is really kind of small, bordering on several other towns including Culver City and Venice, California. There are even some "projects" near by. I can remember when MDR was nothing but acres and acres and acres of beanfields. But it's all is on the "Westside" of Los Angeles and can be really pricey in places. Then, a block away, rents get reasonable - for Los Angeles anyway. After I moved out of Culver City/ Los Angeles (2004) the owners rented my tiny 2 bedroom 1 bath house in Culver City for $2400 a month. I had been paying a whole lot less.
  25. Oh, yeah, sure! Blame it on the staff! It's always the staff. If there's no butler or pool boy handy, pin it on the housekeeper. Sheesh! ? YESSSSS!!!!!
