  1. Rest in peace, Joan Rivers. She was one of those TV personalities that I, personally, loved. I know some didn't like her because of how low-brow her humor could be or because she was mean-spirited; the reason I can't feel the same is that, even though she did make fun of many people, she never forgot to give herself just as good as she gave others. Sometimes just saying the truth can be hilarious for the simple fact that we skate around it so often in our daily lives. I know her life wasn't necessarily an easy one, but I'm happy that she was in a good place with her family in her final years. My thoughts go out to her daughter and grandson right now.
  2. Well, I can only judge what I've seen of her, and she didn't act like that when she was on. So hopefully she won't change.
  3. I wish there was more diversity in the ages, but I don't think they would reach many young viewers regardless. Overall, very happy with the new panel! It definitely seems as if they're trying to go back to a calmer, more intelligent View. I agree with others that Rosie's voice is very grating, but she does always come across very composed/rational. I didn't feel either way about October Gonzalez; she didn't seem bad, and she would have added a younger viewpoint. On the other hand, she did have the feel of a reality show star in the making, so I'm not disappointed either. Very happy we dodged the bullet with S.E. Cupp (thank you Rosie O) and Sunny Hostin! They would have just been a repeat of Elisabeth and Sherri, respectively, imo. I wonder if they'll solve the two Rosie's problem by calling one "Ro" and the other "Rosie" perhaps?
  4. To be honest, I think I'm a very loyal viewer to most shows I watch if I make it through the first season. A lot of shows I hear others bailed around the 2nd or 3rd season I stuck/will stick out to the end, including Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Downton Abbey, Scandal, Once Upon a Time, and American Idol. I believe there's only 2 shows that come to mind that I've quit, and those were Glee and House. I quit House because the majority of the cast changed around the 3rd season, which ruined the show for me. Glee is another case--I just got bored of it when the 3rd season started. I actually liked season 2 despite the complaints of many other fans, and I still enjoy Lea Michele, Darren Criss, Chris Colfer, and Naya Rivera, but when season 3 started, for some reason I was just bored of the show. I watched on and off for about a season or two, but no longer even bothered when season 5 started. The "new" students definitely didn't inspire me to keep watching.
  5. Count me in as another who thought Sherri was just being nasty because she knows October is the woman "taking" her job (as if Sherri's poor performance didn't have everything to do with it). October played it off well, regardless. Poor Sherri. Too bad, so sad.
  6. I've been reading her Ask Rosie responses for a while now, lots of little bits about The View (nothing big though).
  7. I don't judge October Gonzalez too harshly, since she was paired with Sherri and Jenny. I like her better than either one of them though, and her sole role may be to be lightweight, young, and pretty, since Rosie, Whoopi, and Nicole will all be heavyweights, imo. I think she'll work fine, but we'll see. I've known Brad Paisley for a long time, although I've never liked him. He does have good songs, like "Alcohol," "Celebrity," "When I Get Where I'm Going" (with Dolly Parton), and most of all "Whiskey Lullaby" (with Alison Krauss, who makes the song), but his voice is awful, imo, which is why I've never bought anything by him.
  8. I think that is new. Before all the co-host speculation, I'd never heard of October Gonzalez in my life. Also, I am looking forward to seeing the last show of Joy, Meredith, and Lisa again, even if the whole show is spent in forced awe at Barbara's feet.
  9. I'm clearly biased when it comes to this relationship, because Edith is the only upstairs character on the show I like, besides perhaps Isobel and Violet who I sometime like and sometimes dislike to varying degrees. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that she's been the most put-upon of the lot, which makes her more relatable than someone like Mary, who was always loved most, who always got everything she wanted, and who ended up with the loving husband, the heir, the money, the adoration--the whole shebang. Even when her husband snuffed it, she gets loads of men chasing after her. But it's not just in comparison to Edith--Mary was the only one of the three sisters I just never liked. Although Edith is no saint, I have to admit the way Mary acts towards Edith is one of the biggest reasons I dislike that character. Mary does act as if she's superior to Edith, when the only thing she's done better than Edith is being born first and with good looks--neither of which she did anything to earn, which makes her come across very pathetic lording that over Edith. If most of their "rivalry" weren't at its core so steeped in their difference in appearance, I probably wouldn't dislike Mary as much.
  10. I guessed they would put Rosie opposite of Whoopi--the two biggest personalities on each side. Plus, when Whoopi is absent, Rosie will take the moderator's seat, I'm guessing. I personally don't like the new logo as much as the old, but I'm guessing there's a reason for the change. The new one gives off a more soothing, less aggressive vibe, whereas the old one gives you the impression you're about to watch a fight to the death. If that's what their intentions were, I hope that means they're going to also revamp the way they have discussions, too, with no talking over one another or shouting. The technology aspects don't bother me too much. I don't mind the scroll at the bottom of the screen and I actually liked the pictures in the background (although it can be overload for the eye sometimes). I don't like the selfies at all though, not just because it's a fad that will fade fast, but also because they always interrupt an interview to do it.
  11. Well, there are a lot of women in country, but they get almost zero play if they arent Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, or Taylor Swift. Which is made more sad by the fact that Taylor Swift isn't even making country music anymore. I'm not a huge fan of Carrie, but she's better than most of what's being played right now, and I've never liked Miranda. Reba McEntire hasn't had new music in a while, but Dolly Parton, Kellie Pickler, and Sara Evans all had releases recently that have been ignored. LeAnn Rimes also had one a year or so ago, I think. There's also Kacey Musgraves, who I love and who I was lucky enough to find out about, who also isn't given too much notice by country radio. She got more attention from the Grammy's than her own genre, which is embarrassing. Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope are also struggling, but have done about as much as a new female singer could do, I think. Jennifer Nettles also had a solo album that got no attention. Natalie Maines from Dixie Chicks had a solo album a while back, but I'm not sure if it was country or not. I'll be honest that I don't listen to country radio anymore for this reason. A lot of things I loved about country growing up in the '90s has disappeared. I remember when there were at least as many female singers as men, a wide variety of song themes, and equal play between newly released songs and songs from decades past.
  12. My sympathy goes out to Whoopi and all of Robin Williams' other friends and family. The news was a shock and very sad.
  13. Personally, if it means we don't have another foaming at the mouth conservative, I'm glad Rosie is being given to control the co-hosts. And she did create a very good talkshow for many years, so I don't think she could possibly make this show worse than it has been the past year or three. As far as being intolerant of Republicans--I agree, I have zero tolerance for people who would think I, and many people I know, shouldn't have rights (LGBT, women, etc.). That isn't all of Republicans, but it seems like the majority these days, and it definitely includes S.E. Cupp and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. I'm not ashamed of that at all, and it's hardly hypocritical since I'm not attempting to take away their rights or trying to silence them. I just don't want to be around them or hear anything they have to say because they are hateful and deliberately ignorant; the same reason I wouldn't want to see a KKK member on a daily basis. When it comes to human rights, there is no middle ground for me. Economic issues are something else entirely and I'm much more willing to hear both sides there.
  14. I believe Whoopi is loyal to a fault (to friends and co-workers, I believe; I find it hard to believe she's friends with Elisabeth, if I'm being honest), and that's why she comes across very silly when she comes out in defense of people/actions that are can't be defended. It's also why she has a lot of friends, too.
  15. I wouldn't say Rosie isn't a team player (excuse the double negative). The only bad thing I've ever heard about her was in regards to her stint on The View, which we all know was overblown because of the post-9/11 hysteria (and partly because she was a lesbian, too... That's just my opinion). I don't even remember her having a problem with anyone besides Elisabeth/Barbara/Geddie, which was more because she felt they'd played a game of gotcha with her. I don't blame her at all for not wanting to work with another troll like Elisabeth; if she is coming back, it's reasonable she not doesn't want to play that game again, I think. I would say Elisabeth, Barbara, Sherri, and Whoopi aren't 100% team players either, if we're being honest. I'm glad she's more approving of Wallace. Like someone else said, of course I don't really agree with any of them, and I don't know anything about any of them besides what they've shown of themselves onthis show either, but Wallace definitely looks to be the best of them. I think it helps that she's older--the young conservatives are particularly aggressive and nasty. The downside is that means the 4th host would have to be young--which may not be a downside since that puts Sunny out of the running (40+ for sure).
  16. If Nicole Wallace and October Gonzalez made it over Cupp and Hostin, I'll be very happy. Huge points to both Whoopi and Rosie for trying to nip the problem in the bud before they cast her.
  17. I don't think ABC is surprised. They probably knew this would be a bad season, but it had to happen to get rid of Barbara and then everyone else, I'm guessing. Tbh, I don't know how The Talk doing better affects The View though since they air 3 hours apart (at least where I live).
  18. To be honest, I only started noticing Whoopi disliked her after the news she was fired came out. I guess Whoopi didn't think she needed to front anymore since the people behind scenes and watching at home didn't like Jenny either. I missed the farewell, since I tuned out after Hot Topics. Oh well, no loss there and good riddance.
  19. If Sunny is the frontrunner, any hope for a better show is gone. I could take a resident eyeroll-worthy conservative, but not this woman. I don't know who Lauren Sanchez is, but one of those articles said she lost to Lisa Ling. I hope they cast her rather than Sunny; I'm assuming she's better because the casting was much better back when Lisa, Star, etc. were on.
  20. Some that come to mind (to varying degrees of dislike): Gwyneth Paltrow Kristen Stewart Nicholas Cage Matthew McConaughey Kate Hudson Emily Deschanel Zooey Deschanel George Lopez Adam Sandler Matthew Perry Julie Benz Nikki Blonsky Miley Cyrus Patricia Arquette Emelie de Ravin Calista Flockhart Sarah Chalke Ellen Pompeo Vanessa Hudgens Julianne Hough Mila Kunis Patricia Heaton Leah Remini Lisa Rinna Meg Ryan Tim Allen
  21. Yes, that's what I mean (sorry if I mispoke there). I don't think there's anything wrong with a student or students praying to themselves. The most a teacher/authority should do is lead a "moment of silence," where the students can pray or do whatever they see fit. I'm conflicted on other things though--I don't think there's anything wrong with teachers leading the Pledge of Allegiance even though it mentions God, or talking in terms of a particular religion in English class depending on how an author's religion affected the text. I hate that religion is so divisive, and of course the common denominator The View makes sparks everytime it's a topic.
  22. I agree, Nicole Wallace was my favorite of the conservatives. She could change after being cast, but at least she seemed to have some sense of decorum.
  23. Well, it's not the first time Sherri has spilled the beans early before.
  24. YES! I only see Maddow's show occasionally, but it'll be nice to see a show run by someone geared towards intelligent women. I still wish a woman was running this women's show though.
  25. Thankfully, I missed today's show (no biggie since it's looking like we'll have more and more days of Sunny and S.E. Cupp's ignorance if they are the new co-hosts...gah), but with all this talk of brimstone, I just have to say that anyone who says someone else should/will be going to Hell is the person who should be worried the most. If you are Christian, and the people who spout this nonsense suppose to be, you should know that only God can forgive and condemn, and trying to usurp his role in that is close to blasphemous. I don't think the "other women/men" are innocent, but if you are wrathful it should be directed toward the spouse who obviously doesn't give a damn about you. I have several relatives who roll their eyes whenever talk comes up about how people can't pray in school or in public places, and blame that on all the hardships in America. What they can't seem to grasp is how it would feel, as I explained, if someone at school was telling their child that there was no God, or that Jesus is just a prophet and not the messiah, or if they had statues of Buddha in the classroom. For some reason, people who worry about this seem to always cite how much worse today is compared "the golden days," which is completely ridiculous. There were many people from those old days (non-whites, LGBT, women, etc.) whose lives weren't so golden.
