  1. Before Sherri Shepherd, I honestly didn't know someone could have internal beliefs that were so anti-intelligence and anti-education (or, rather, self-education). I mean, laziness is one thing, but outright defying your instincts to educate yourself is another. Even yesterday, she was crowing, all self-congratulatory about how stupid she is, over "those smart people" who ended up at Taylor Swift's house while they were drunk. You would think being richer than most people would inspire her to think every now and then.
  2. I agree, but I can also see the point of view that if I was fired, made to feel like I was the reason for all the problems, and then forced to plaster on a nice smile for a month that I would be completely passive-aggressive just like Jenny McCarthy. Besides, the interrupting on this show is one of its worst problems so I hope Jenny keeps pissing Whoopi off about it. Btw, I also missed that exchange on the show. This has definitely been the best part of this entire season...if there was a good part at all, I mean. I have to admit that I enjoy these awkward moments the most for this show. It reminds me of once a few years ago when Whoopi interrupted a serious argument by telling the table to shut up so she could move to the next topic, and Joy very awkwardly (nobody else talking at the time) said, "NO. I will NOT shut up." It was such a you-can-hear-a-pin-drop moment that I couldn't help but burst out laughing.
  3. I know Leah Remini's name has been put out by a lot of people online and on TV, but I really hope they don't cast her. I don't dislike her as a person, but she's already proven she doesn't work on talkshows with The Talk. I couldn't even bear to see that show the first season because she was so loud, not funny, and annoying. I know many don't like her, but I think Sheryl Underwood really made everything about that show better. Not that it's a perfect show by any means, and Underwood only works because of how lightweight The Talk is, but she's lightyears funnier than Sherri Shepherd for instance.
  4. Same here. I had no idea shark is actually used for food to many people. I just assumed it was a brag killing.
  5. I've never heard that story about the shark. I'm not going to suddenly consider her the worst person in the world for that, but there's no denying it's awful and I really wish she hadn't done it. Killing animals for sport is flat out disgusting, I don't care who it is. Doing so if they're attacking you or using them for food is another thing, although you should at least do it as humanely as possible. I've always felt you can tell the most about a person by how they treat those with less power than them or who are dependent on them, like animals, children, the elderly, etc. What I find utterly bizarre are people who think they have no obligations to be kind or humane to animals since they aren't human.
  6. I agree, I can't stand children hangers-on like Megan McCain. Kelly Osbourne and Bristol Palin are other "celebrities" that come to mind. Huntsman and Hoover also fall in that category, but if I had to pick one, I'd definitely take Huntsman.
  7. That seems to be the case with her on any given subject--if it doesn't impact her, it doesn't matter. I have to say the show has almost become must-watch for me since they came back after the firings for the hilarity. Sherri is as ridiculous as usual, but Jenny is out for blood. I was not looking forward to seeing Sunny Hostin on as a guest co-host for three days since I've seen her on other shows in more of a journalist setting and she made everything unprofessionally personal. Naturally, she was unbearable on this show, her shining moment being when she said parents shouldn't take pictures of their children with their shirts off because...you know...pedophiles. So I'm guessing women should always dress according to a rapist's viewpoint, too? Why didn't she just jump straight to the victim-shaming, "Don't be surprised if your child gets molested after posting pictures like that!!! What did you think would happen? He couldn't control himself!" Some of the things I hear on this show...
  8. No mention if Bill Geddie is gone, too. That Sarah Palin mention is definitely scary if he's still in control.
  9. I didn't say they needed a career boost, but it's a paycheck they probably couldn't make as easily in music anymore. When's the last time Shania had an album or Bette Midler did anything but give drive-by performances of "Wind Beneath My Wings"? Kellie Pickler, like all girls in country that aren't Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, or Miranda Lambert, is struggling to get new music heard or sold. Jordin Sparks has been inexplicably trapped in a vault by her record label. And Vanessa Williams had ABC give her a job on Desperate Housewives after the end of Ugly Betty, but then DH was also cancelled (if she was cast, maybe that could also predict the end of The View... lol ). These are just ideals for me though. I know not all of them would want to be on this show, but I would enjoy them.
  10. Joy was the main reason I started watching this show, and I loved her from beginning to end. I really wish she had kept her HLN show so I could still see her on TV, but I know she was sick of the court talk (so was I). I don't think she "sold out" at all. I think after what went down with Rosie, she knew Geddie and Barbara were in Elisabeth's corner and played her cards very safe. She was too smart to be painted as the fat, old, ugly, loud, liberal villain to Elisabeth's poor, pretty, Christian conservative victim act like what happened to Rosie. Moreover, I think Joy, like any normal person, wasn't willing to lose very easy money for the sake of going to town on someone as ridiculous as Elisabeth--partly because it would ultimately be pointless. Elisabeth would only get the pity-me card if she did so anyway. I also love Meredith Veira, and like Lisa, Whoopi and Rosie.
  11. Going off the article in the media thread: I would definitely be here for a Whoopi, Rosie, Mario, and Bernadette/Idina panel. I think Mario would be calmer if he was on everyday, and it would be nice to get the point of view of someone who has no children and does not want them every now and then. I was wondering the other day with the new co-host speculation why they've never got a singer co-host before, because then they could perform on the show occasionally. I would definitely enjoy performances by either one of Idina or Bernadette occasionally as part of the show (similarly to how the comedians would occasionally have comedy segments). For younger singers who were big at one time but could use another job now, there's Jordin Sparks or Kellie Pickler, both who have worked with Disney/ABC before. I've seen them on other talkshows and they're capable of giving opinions without being argumentative. There's also older stars like Shania Twain, Bette Midler, etc. who don't really have anything going on (although they might have enough money that they'd have no interest in this show). I even think Queen Latifah would work; she's a nice personality that can't carry a solo show by herself, but would work well in a group. There's also Vanessa Williams, who's worked for ABC before, too.
  12. Sherri killed the "as a mother" phrase for me a long time ago. Now whenever I hear someone say that, whether it's on the news, shopping networks, scripted shows, or in daily life, I want to--and sometimes do--scream, "NOBODY CARES THAT YOU'RE A MOTHER!" Being a mother doesn't make your opinion more special, relevant, or interesting to anyone. Sherri, in particular, uses it as a constant excuse, as in "I have X stupid/ignorant opinion, but it's okay because I'm a mother!!!"
  13. I remember the guy being the best character on Greek. I wasn't a fan of the overall show, but I did like him. I think he'll do well with the role, which'll probably be a throwaway role, I'm guessing.
  14. I never saw today's episode. I have really coasted this past year though. I actually liked this kind of show. They should do something similar once a month. As far as the adultery percentage, I have to say, no, not everyone would cheat on their spouse even if they knew there was no way they would be caught, Whoopi. I don't know what's with this show and food either... I could never pig out like that in public, much less on television.
  15. The only way I see the show getting rid of Whoopi is if the ratings go down so far that ABC isn't willing to put in the money into The View budget that would pay her salary. To be honest, I suspected part of Joy's being let go might have had to do with her probably large paycheck after so many years on the show, among several other things. I personally don't think Whoopi is that bad of a moderator when the rest of table actually has manners (this was Barbara's problem this past year) and aren't complete idiots whose ignorance and misinformation needs addressing at the end of every topic (Jenny, Sherri...). If they had an intelligent, calm panel, I don't think Whoopi would be nearly as overbearing.
  16. Thank you for making it easier for her to leave it behind, Barbara probably meant. Wow, good news about the firings. I'm not as satisfied as Elizabeth's surprise, overdue exit, but it'll be nice to see a Sherri-free View again. I just hope they'll finally take this opportunity to fix the show, not just cover it in scotchtape by hiring someone who makes sparks because of inane comments or pretentious behavior.
  17. The halo effect with attractive people is very strange. It reminds me of when all those girls started a petition to save the Boston Bomber because he was too cute to have possibly done anything wrong like that. I don't get it. I cheered at Whoopi's smackdown of Will Cain today. If he's going to be joining this show, there will have to be one of those every day. I had to laugh when he confused his words during the bully topic, first saying "we should all stand up for bullies." Working for Glenn Beck, I'm sure he does that pretty often.
  18. Or teachers trying to get their first job because the number of job openings are shrinking, retired teachers with much more experience are coming out of retirement, and teachers who should retire refuse, all thanks to our economy. The ultimate degradation, especially when you hear TV personalities like rich, out-of-touch Sherri telling everybody about how “those” people don’t deserve a pay increase because they'll get better jobs, as if they exist. But this is coming from the same people who mock children who are leaving their parents' households later in life as lazy leechers, when the simple fact is they can't support themselves on jobs that only pay $10,000 a year.
  19. It would be an absolute travesty if Jenny is let go before Sherri. Not that I would care if Jenny goes because she doesn't add anything and is occasionally annoying herself, but Sherri is a real leech. I'm guessing a reason they might have for keeping her is that, like Elisabeth, she's willing to do anything that's asked of her and she does have a good voice for promoting products (the only compliment I'll give her, and she only works there because she's reading a script). I also have to point out that all the white women will have been given their pink slip (Elisabeth, Joy, Barbara, now Jenny). Not that I believe there's a racial bias or anything to it, but if 4 black women were let go in a row, I'm sure the media would be griping about it.
  20. My opinion is that, while Whoopi is grateful to have an easy, millions-paying job like this, she isn't hurting so much for money that she's going to bend over backwards to kiss Barbara Walters' behind like Walters expects everyone to do. It reminds me of one day this past year during topics when Barbara made a snide comment towards her and Whoopi said she'd be happy to leave this show if Barbara wanted it that way, and Barbara backtracked. Plus Whoopi is probably aware that she is the biggest name and Q rating they have at this point, and they probably won't get any better. She's also too old and well-off to care if she ruffles feathers, which is the same way Joy was in later years on the show. More importantly, her not-caring contribution still manages to be more than Sherri's or Jenny's, and they seem like they really are trying. Which is pretty sad.
  21. This is what makes me laugh about Wendy talking so seriously about everything. There's a lot of things about Wendy that bother me just because they could easily be fixed by preparing for a minute or two (or having them written on a card if she finds them hard to remember). Getting names and small facts wrong or making up words like "nepotize" and "romantical" is one thing, but getting the whole story wrong is another. I usually tune out after Hot Topics, but I know I especially can't watch when she has cooks on because she's always interrupting them with, "We only have 2 minutes!" and, "Hurry! Hurry!" Why couldn't she have told them this before the show comes back from commercial? Jeez.
  22. Since I can't stand Bethenny Frankel, I found the surprising smackdown of her today pretty funny. And, while I was never against the idea of a male co-host, I am now completely on Whoopi's side. Sherri and Jenny, if possible, act more idiotic when men are around. Also, thank you as always Sherri for pointing out that the person who Twitter commented that it would be boring for their spouse to be an intellectual equal was a man. I believe she makes these under-the-radar comments (while smirking) to feel better about being a complete moron. Like that's worked out so well for her in the marriage department... (While I don't judge anyone on their marriage succcess or failure, I can't help seeing the humor in someone who is constantly putting down other women for doing things that aren't "traditionally" attractive to men--like being ambitious/intelligent/powerful, wearing "the pants," or making more money--failing in their own relationships.)
  23. I agree with Whoopi that not every teacher should have a gun, if things were to go that route. Having the Department Heads be the only ones with guns makes more sense. Of course, the ideal would be getting gun restrictions so there would be less gun violence, but, since that clearly isn't going to happen, I can't say I'm against teachers having guns.
  24. I hate the awards episodes. It might've been bearable if Julie was there, but it's always difficult to watch when Sharon is in charge. For some reason, the show always acts in awe of her, which really grates on my nerves.
  25. Regarding the drag queen talk that always seems to follow Wendy, I definitely think she looks better on this show than on others. I'm not sure quite how it's managed, because when I saw her on The View a couple of times as a guest, she looks so unflattering there. I have to say I don't like Wendy as much as I did when I first started watching the show. I liked her better back when she took the show less seriously. I believe what might have turned me off her was around the time she went on Dancing With the Stars and/or Broadway, whichever happened first. For some reason, she acted like she knew everything that DWTS should do to save ratings, and who would go and when. The same thing happened with the Broadway stint, she started calling herself a thespian... The idea that she knows anything about Broadway because of one brief stint she probably got from her name value is extremely arrogant. The comedy act looks like it's going the same direction right now. There's nothing wrong with her trying these things, but the fact that she acts like she's a theater person now or something is absurd. I still like that she says it like she means it, even if I rarely agree with her, but it's the arrogance that bothers me at times. That, and the fake laugh, and the mouth noise issues.
