Sorry for your losses leighroda. I've lost 1 brother and my parents, and at times half kiddingly refer to myself as an orphan. I do have kids, but I too, find all these "Re-post & Celebrate if you have ..." on FB obnoxious. A short time after my father's death FB was promoting a Scrapbook thing, I log on one day and there is my Dad's picture staring me in the face, it can be tough for sure. Again, sorry for your losses.

I wonder if the last few social media teases were the last test to see if they were sustainable.

I think we need to give the public credit. once this show became a series it was pretty evident what the Duggars represented. Their oppression of woman is glaringly obvious, as well their conservative Christian beliefs . I don't think the Duggars nor TLC have fooled that many viewers even if that was their intent.

I have no problem with TLC or the married couples coming back to TV. TLC is in the business of making money, and as far as I know at least, have never held themselves as a highly moral network. As far as the married couples, this is what they know, and they can make some big money, for very little effort, which unfortunately for them is the Duggar way. And fame whoring is not a Duggar thing - I would hazard to guess that many a celebrity would fall into that category. I have a strong distaste in the way the Kardashians live and were/are raised - so I don't watch. I have some strong beliefs, probably all of them the opposite of the Duggars' beliefs, and I wouldn't want anyone to object to me sharing them.

The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

What I found just as bad as Michelle's talking head response, was her sisters' responses. Jill and I believe maybe Jana corrected her in someway right then and there, and Jinger meekly agreed. New shows are airing? -
Took the words right out of my mouth!

In my area Federal food assistance is for minor children or people with disabilities only. They have ten kids under 18, the average food assistance allotment hovers around $130.00 per person, that would be around $1300.00 a month, considerately less than the $4000.00 mentioned in the article. And the Duggars aren't anywhere close to meeting the level of need of any type of assistance ... yet.

That's similar to how it is in my area. The different community colleges have agreements with various 4 year colleges for certain degree majors, that will transfer over seamlessly. However many AA degrees at these same colleges, transfer only by class and credits and don't guarantee entering a 4 year as a Junior.

Both the story of Isaac's death and David's rebirth are terribly sad. Adam's story of Isaac's life and death left me feeling solemn & sad. David's testimony left me feeling outraged & sad. IMHO, having an atmosphere in a home where a preschooler can pick up on, or be told outright, that he is full of sin and will end up in a horrible place called hell is abusive. Warmth, love, safety, value ... are just a few feelings a 3 1/2 should be experiencing.

Plus global warming - JB's & The Donald's carbon footprint must be huge on hair products alone. -
These kids, and I mean kids, are so young. They sound like teenagers, and I believe Ben is still a teenager. They spout things like adopting and theology school like children do when they are young and have few responsibilities. The problem is, they are married adults with a kid on the way. They need to get past the "When I grow up I want to be ..." stage. IMHO, when you make grown up decisions, i.e. marriage and kids, you need to start acting like adults. And like what SomePity said, any job is noble, but it appears to me that Ben's job doesn't sound totally legit. While flipping houses can be lucrative, I don't know that they could make enough to pay all the Duggs a reasonable salary (if they are even paying the girls). To flip houses you need money, money to purchase the house and money to rehab it. Making a profit on that investment is iffy and timely. My problem is less with their future dreams, and more with what appears to be their lackadaisical and immature attitudes about what it really takes to be independent financially sound adults.

This thread is for hijacking. No worries .... The more you know the better help you can get, and be better able to make informed decisions.

Ben would also need finances to attend college. Remember the marriage counseling JB & M gave Jill & Derick? Asking all kinds of questions regarding having no debt or credit cards. How is a new father, who works basically as a construction b*tch, going to be able to support his family and pay for an education without debt?

I think Jelly is referring too Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, HFC. Also like to add that if I shared different events of the last 5 years, I would send all your BS meters a bleeping. Adult life is not for sissies.

Too true. I can't think of anything for my generation or my kids when they were younger. Just wow!

I think the Prayer Closet is equivalent to a time-out. For a family so deep in faith why would they want prayer associated with punishment? Or do they always see it that way with all the restrictions they impose on themselves? If I was religious, I would want it to bring me comfort & strength. Am I missing something here?

Not to defend Derick or Ben, but many an adult their age twitter (or tweet?) & instagram everything - not so different than what Derick & Ben are doing, but the every-day-person doesn't have the public looking at their posts. With that said, the Duggars, Dillards and Seewalds do have the public looking at their accounts, so they should be more mindful of what they put out there.
-
Well they need the public to finish raising them, so they are getting some benefit from fame whoring.
-
Maybe they are listening and it's dawning on them that calling oneself a missionary does not a missionary make. Jill was raised to believe nail polish & soccer balls (& TV) was mission work, maybe between the public backlash (and maybe Derick's mom?) they are getting a clue. It would be great if they offered some real help to those that need it. However they could do the same thing staying under seas. ;)

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
GeeGolly replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I doubt Anna is in FL. Or if she went it was quick. I agree she should try and not alter her kids lives too much, too. But it has got to suck for her, she's no doubt an emotional wreck, she may have to ask for money to run to the store, she just moved, and has a newborn. If I was her, the worst would be not having access to my own money. Hopefully she does. -
Oh my Jelly, I'm so sorry. (nope haven't heard from them lately)
