  1. Yes, according to a neighbor who loves going to this Whole Foods on weekends with her husband ("It makes us feel younger"). There are two round bars with stools: one is for seafood and the other is smoked meats, bbq. She says there's another area upstairs too (had no idea there was a second floor). They bring in bands on the weekends to make it more lively I guess. It's a big store with 4 buffet areas and a dessert buffet.
  2. I am lucky enough to have a Wegman's a couple miles away and go once a week (it's my food emporium!) Then I have Harris Teeter, a very nice southern supermarket very close by, and two other supermarkets. We also have a big Whole Foods but I just run in, get what I want and leave (I don't take advantage of the restaurant areas or the bands playing on weekends--don't like crowds). So we're well fed :>)
  3. The only thing I caught was the Free Dance and I watched it on Streamking or something like that - it was Russian so I didn't understand a word said. Can't believe I missed the one hour NBC broadcast (how kind of them). Anyhow...I thought Sinitisina and Nikita should've won. They were sensational and I think she's catching up to NK in skating skills. Chock and Bates were boring IMO and he's still skating bent at the waist to compensate for her short stature.
  4. How are these chips (Good Health) on cholesterol? I just learned I've got to watch my cholesterol so I'm checking the contents of everything I buy now ;>(
  5. If you want to spend a lot of money, get Olio Santo e.v.o.o. at Williams-Sonoma. It is quite delicious and good for dipping bread into. It's Ina's favorite so that's how I discovered it. However, when I don't want to spend $29 on a bottle of evoo, I go to Trader Joe's and buy their California Estate evoo for $5.99 and it's almost as good. That has become my evoo olive oil (except when I buy light olive oil in the supermarket and I get whichever is cheapest).
  6. There's just something about a little wine (I use a dry white) in the sauce that adds something. Also good when saute-ing mushrooms.
  7. I would bring bags to stores but when I did (and I tried it with several different supermarkets) they'd always pack each bag to the hilt...I could barely lift them into the car and then into the house. And when I'd say, "Please just put a few things in each bag so they don't get too heavy"? I'd get the Look.
  8. But this isn't a 90 minute show. I don't think I've ever watched a program on TV that has had as many commercials as this one and it's really annoying...to the point that it's almost ruining Fargo for us (but not quite...Fargo's worth hanging in there but with loud grumbles). I don't remember the first season as having so many ads to the point that we were bothered by them. Back to the program. Why in the world didn't he just go out into the woods, far from the town, and leave the body (w/o any ID) until he could bury it come spring thaw?
  9. Geez, how's about a little programming with all those commercials? It felt like 3 minutes of program and 10 minutes of commercials. It's getting more interesting as we get into the story.
  10. There's just something downright shocking about murder amidst "Minnesota nice". Normally I wouldn't watch a show with such gore, but when it's mixed in with the cheery friendliness of those Northerners, well, gosh darn it I can't resist! This is the only show my husband and I watch together. Can't wait for Episode two tonight.
  11. Heated up leftover shrimp marinara and added some chopped clams (canned) and some more Trader Joe's Arrabbiatta sauce, on top of spaghetti (but not all covered with cheeeeeeese--I love that song). I am loving this cooler (sometimes downright cold) weather these days. Hooray for real fall temps!
  12. Well...I came here with good news (Ina filming Thanksgiving special with Bobby Flay) and discovered terrible news (Anna). She was a special woman and a good friend to Ina. I have Summer On A Plate - it's a beautiful cookbook.
  13. What has to stop, and I mean stop this very instant, is starting every sentence with the word, "So". Talking heads on TV are doing it and reporters too. I can't stand it. Comedians set up a joke with the word "so". That doesn't mean everyone else should. Ugh.
  14. Tonight was Ina's Herbed Roasted Fish. I used tilapia fillets--and forget about individually wrapping them in parchment! I just lay them out on a rimmed cookie sheet, put the fresh thyme, olives, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, etc on them and cover them with foil. Good with Ina's tartar sauce. And I baked some tomato halves with Italian dressing, seasonings and freshly ground Parmesan. Who knew healthy food could be so good? (well, other than the Parmesan...is Parmesan healthy?)
  15. I laughed out loud when I saw that comment about the woodchipper ready to go! Yeah...I bet they got one--they're just the kind of people to have a woodchipper.
  16. Beef stew and whipped potatoes tonight for supper. Gotta build up our strength for the first episode of the second season of Fargo!
  17. Well, an article in the Washington Post today said the first 3 episodes are all over the place but it all comes together in episode 4. I was spoiled by the excellence of Season 1 (which we watched yesterday...so many little things we forgot about); I'll give this second season some time. I love the accents (the bingo caller especially). Jimmy Carter never used the word "malaise" in that speech--a reporter did and it stuck with Carter forever after.
  18. I love Potbelly's...the mushrooms and cheese sandwich is my favorite (I tell them to leave everything else out!) I love how it's toasted. Wish there were more Quizno's around here. Their chicken bourbon bbq is delicious. Dinner tonight is free-for-all. Leftover chicken burgers w/ aioli, leftover pasta salad, leftover tossed salad, and Wacky Cake (that vegan chocolate cake...I guess I'll be the only one eating it).
  19. Thawed and then sauted shrimp in garlic flavored olive oil then tossed them in Arrabiatta sauce (TJ's) mixed with Mario's (a restaurant recipe in Rochester NY sold only at Wegman's). Very good served on thin spaghetti. Leftover tossed salad and waa-laa, instant dinner!
  20. Tack sa mycka, Joelene. Can't believe I'm Swedish-American! I heard varsagod all my life (my parents spoke Swedish, 1st generation Americans, but never taught us kids). However, they used varsagod to announce that dinner is ready so come to the table. When my husband & I visited Sweden several years ago, it was very strange for me to hear "varsagod" whenever I entered a store since I associate varsagod with dinner being on the table :>) Pet peeve of the day: people who leave their shopping cart in the aisle or passageway to go check out something. Today was worse than the day before Thanksgiving. Everyone & his/her brother, grandpa, cousins, au peres, kids, etc., were shopping and it was a zoo. Of course, I still love that fabulous food emporium!
  21. @joelene: How do you say "you're welcome" in Swedish? Tak :>)
  22. I finally got around to making Sausage Potato Salad, a recipe I found in the Deen Brothers cookbook. The vinaigrette dressing was way too tart (made my hair stand up, I swannee!) so I softened it with some honey and added more e.v.o.o. I believe this is a keeper :>)
