  1. I don't know if I've posted this pet peeve before but, so what! Today I was reminded of a pet peeve as I watched a teenage girl walk s.l.o.w.l.y across a side street while the car in front of me waited to make a turn into that street. What is it with healthy people who take their darned time crossing streets while traffic is waiting? I'm not talking about the elderly, the sick, those using a cane or walker, etc. I'm talking about healthy looking individuals (robust!) who could shake a leg for once.
  2. Yup! Things were a-poppin' last season by this time. This season is just going so slowly, as in the side trip to LA--interesting in a way but again, it slowed down the pace--felt like it was just a filler cause they needed to stretch the story to make a certain number of episodes. Now, it could be that they wanted this season to be different from the first two (and that would be sad!!!)
  3. This is the technique I use on friends who post stuff I really am not interested in (religious stuff, their child's big never-ending important projects, things that are posted over and over ad nauseum). Of course I have to remember to visit their page once a week to make sure I can "like" their good/interesting posts but it's worth it to miss that other irritating stuff.
  4. I don't know what's for dinner tonight but I did want to wish all you moms in our forum a very Happy Mother's Day!
  5. I once said that Sy's start & stop babbling complete with that OTT "accent" was driving me nuts. But, IMO, there's something about this character that stands out (more so than Ewan) so Stuhlbarg should be nominated. I could feel his fear, in that scene with the police officer, as he kept looking through the glass wall at Varga's henchmen.
  6. No character, to date, has surpassed Malvo for chilling, bone-rattlin' evil, but Varga comes close. I'm very nervous when he's in a scene, talking too calmly, showing those disgusting teeth when he grins. I've never seen David Thewlis play any other characters but this one sure is going to be memorable. And of course, the sight of him wolfing down his food (and then purging-blech) will also be unforgettable.
  7. Who makes Bride's Cake flavored ice cream? I never heard of it but it sounds good.
  8. Oooh I love fried chicken (not very good at making it myself), especially Bojangles. Unfortunately we don't have Bojangles around here, just KFC & Popeyes. I've always wanted to try that Korean fried chicken, Bon Chon. Has anyone tried it? It's supposed to be very crispy and its crispyness survives the trip home.
  9. @ennui: I got that recipe many years ago from a book entitled, Saucepans and the Single Girl (my mother gave it to me when I moved into a new apt in my early 20's). It's all about cooking great meals to attract a potential husband (e.g., Foot Fit for a Man in a Brooks Brothers Suit). I think it was originally published in 1965, then updated in 2006. The recipe is called Noel's Noodles: 1/2 head cabbage, shredded 1/4 cup butter, melted 1 tsp sugar Dashes salt & cracked pepper 1/2 pckg thin egg noodles, cooked (about 1 cup) Saute the cabbage in butter until lightly browned. Add sugar, S&P. Add cooked drained noodles and simmer on low flame until hot. Serve 2.
  10. Well, I'm glad I'm hanging in there with this season's Fargo. Last night's episode was good (except for the bulimia on display several times). Also, not pleased with another dumba$$ police boss (shades of Molly having to deal with a jerk boss in season 1)--this is gettin' old, IMO. Loved BBT's narration of Peter & the Wolf (now that was clever thinking to add that to the story). I hope they're already writing next season's plot. There's just something about those snowy scenes + the familiar, sad music + the pathetic characters that really pulls me in. With this latest show, though, I'm wondering if the Minnesotans are getting annoyed (the OTT accents are really present this year).
  11. I've made something like this - found it in a recipe book years ago. I think it called for a sprinkle of sugar on the sauted cabbage.
  12. @chessiegal: Bon voyage! What's the name of that bistro near their apartment that they go to all the time? I tried to find it after visiting the Rodin Museum but couldn't find it. This is a great time of year to be in Paris :>) Re: Cook Like A Pro--I thought it was going to be aired in mid May yet I haven't seen any promos about Ina's new show.
  13. After reading the latest posts on this episode, I'm beginning to realize that this season's Fargo is starting to get interesting. I was impatient during the LA trip, frustrated. But now I realize that it was more of a "pause" in the story (which was needed to explain who Ennis really was and how he came to be). Looking forward to the next episode (and will try to better tolerate Sy's awful OTT accent & speaking style).
  14. OK so when is Cook Like A Pro going to start airing? I guess I missed any promos (or did I?)
  15. I believe that's what happened--glued his mouth & nose shut, not his eyes (weren't his eyes open & staring?) I wish they'd shown his face a bit longer (than 1 second each time). I'm near-sighted and even w/ glasses on had a hard time taking in what I saw.
  16. IMO, Maurice just didn't come across as the kind of criminal who would glue someone's eyes and mouth shut (at least not the way he was portrayed prior to breaking into that house). The noise upstairs was heard by Gloria (when she was supposedly alone in the house w/ the corpse) and I'm suspicious about that.
  17. Always loved that song (whoever wrote it must've been burned real bad) and yeah...it was perfect for that sleazy nightclub 70's scene. Once again I wasn't really thrilled with Season 3 but there were some interesting characters in this LA episode that kept my attention. I wonder if Gloria took the hand-in-the-box back home with her. I would've!! I too was wondering about the age of the young writer, trying to figure out how old he must have been in the 70's to have looked so ancient in 2010. So maybe it was part guilty conscience, part alcoholism that aged him. He sure looked 85 to me.
  18. One more grouse: the OTT accents, especially of Sy (complete with those dumb half started then stopped sentences), are getting on my last nerve. Somebody has gotten obnoxiously carried away with the whole Fargo thing and just might be ruining a good thing.
  19. Not googlin' anybody ever again. Geeze laweeze. Season 3 does not have the fun amidst the murderous mayhem like the first two seasons.
  20. This 3rd season I'm finding it hard to pick up on the dialogue. Some characters talk way too fast. And the start/stop style of speaking sentences (and not finishing them) that Emmit & Sy do is irritating. Are they that dimwitted? The chief of police not even unpacking the computers is too bizarre. Do small town chiefs of police even have that option? I'm in it for the long haul but find myself thinking wistfully of Lester & Malvo and their hijinks.
  21. I think someone took care of Ennis and it wasn't Maurice (remember the noise upstairs?). Why would Maurice do something as evil as gluing someone's mouth shut? But the sequence of events that took place in that house that night...I have no idea because Maurice never said anything about the old man (or did he and I missed it what with all the accents?)
  22. There were some excellent scenes (e.g., the dream) but overall, I'm glad it's over. I enjoyed the first few episodes (when they were filming WHTBJ) but after that, the drinking, smoking and pathetic nastiness (mostly via Crawford) really bothered me. Interesting (& very sad) that they both had mothers who didn't really like them.
  23. How do they come up with these crazy lines? Some of them I miss due to the "accents" so, thanks!
  24. I think there was another one but darned if I can remember it (too much going on, trying to absorb it all). But I'm sure going to be on the lookout for more of them!
  25. Homes fries (nice & crispy), turkey sausage, and eggs. I was using up potatoes that had sprouted, and the turkey sausage had been in the freezer for I don't know how long (another purge the freezer meal!)
