  1. I don't know anything about him either as I don't listen to those interviews but I liked the way he conducted himself as opposed to previous multi-week champs (like James).

Here's a little taste of Ricky Skaggs and Marty Stuart rockin' out with Brian Setzer and that cute slap bass fiddle player. Wish there'd been more of Skaggs & Stuart (and, oh heck, a bunch of others like the Dixie Chicks & their creative songs).
  3. I'm glad that a semi-long time champ is now gone because I prefer to have a new champion after a few games. But Jason is a good person/player and I'll be rooting for him in TOC.
  4. A new champ! I like him and hope he has a good run. Jason has been a good champion. That man seems to know *everything*. I look forward to him returning to compete against other mega champs.
  5. Do they do still have that banjo strumming 3 times to bridge the change in time/scenes? That was like fingernails on a blackboard for me.
  6. Is anyone watching Hardball lately? I usually don't, but last week, while scrolling through the channels, I stopped to see what CM was up to. Glorioski. While Matthews was talking to someone who was off-site, two different times he forgot the name of the *subject* of this discussion & turned to a studio guest (who promptly provided the subject's last name each time). I cannot believe CM is still on the air.

You & me both! He's a nice guy. But, IMO, his music is so bland. I've never understood his incredible popularity.
  8. Because my neighborhood book club had a potluck dinner tonight, I didn't have to cook (I brought two bottles of Prosecco + a dip & bagel chips). So you know a lively discussion was had by all.

Dear Lord...more of Johnny Cash tonight. It never ends. I'm glad there was time to squeak out some info' re: George Strait and the Judds. And, most importantly (for me) the angelic voiced Vince Gill. I'm not a Ken Burns fan (he ruined the special on the creation of New York with his OTT annoyingly repeated musical refrain). But I was interested in what he'd do with this special. A lot of it was very good and interesting. It's too bad that way too much time was wasted, IMO, covering Johnny Cash at the expense of other equally talented country music people.

Could someone explain what they were saying? I thought she was explaining how the music should emphasize the words in a particular section of the song but maybe I was not hearing it correctly? I've always had a hard time understanding Loretta because of the way she speaks.

Kris Kristofferson is such a decent man. I keep thinking of what it would be like to receive such a rotten letter from one's own mother. I doubt she was much of a loving mom to begin with anyway, but still... My belated thanks to sinycalone for the Don Williams/Emmylou video of that beautiful song. I'm going to add that to my YouTube "album" so I can play it whenever the spirit moves.
  12. Thank God I switched channels before DeNiro. What a nasty old poot he's turned into. There's funny ribaldry and then there's crossing the line into the scatalogical.

Ahem...yes! It sure did feel like a JC bio.

It was amazing to me how many country singers started out their lives in extreme poverty. Another thought from last night's episode: Marty Stuart's story of meeting his future wife when he was just a little kid (& she an adult) was not easy to watch. Strange! But I've always liked him and, heck, they're still married after many years. Gosh...I could watch little Brenda belt out "Dynamite" over & over. She should've been in musicals on Broadway with that voice.
  15. Yum...grilled pork chops, baked fennnel & zucchini, and pilaf. Hi

Did you also watch the Red Foley Show? I'm from NY and whenever Red's dancers came out and started clogging, I thought they were tap dancing/square dancing at the same time. Never heard the word "clogging" until I moved to Raleigh in the late 70's. Who knew????

I was scrolling through radio stations in the car on my way home from work, back in the early 90's, when I heard a beautiful voice singing. That was my introduction to Vince Gill and the good stuff that country music also offers. He was singing, When I Call Your Name.
  18. I did too and it made me suspicious, along with Jason's odd behavior (slow in responding, getting so many, for Jason, wrong). It's not that I don't know a lot of the answers...I just can't come up with them so lickety-split fast!!
  19. I should've put a goofy face on my post--yes, I was joking. It just felt like something fire-like was in Iodine (so I was very careful on the playground to not fall down and scrape a knee or elbow!)
  20. Phil & Jan would've been hilarious together. Both of them could completely disappear into their characters & make them so credible. Right now I can envision them together, totally into the roles they'd be playing. Makes me smile.
  21. Iodine! I've been trying to recall that name ever since the show. My mom used Mercurichrome at home & it didn't hurt. But at my grade school, the nurse used Iodine & it stung like h*ll. Both were red. I bet Iodine had cayenne in it. Last night when they showed the TOC promo with dear ol' James photo, I too finally figured out who he looked like...Simon Cowell. Same smirky mug.

I'm enjoying this series and learning so many interesting things (e g., I Walk The Line written for the first Mrs Cash, who else was on that plane with Patsy, Roger Miller discovering the plane, etc). Marty Stuart is a great storyteller. I love his segments. I'm not a real deal country music fan but I do love the music of Patsy, Brenda Lee & Vince Gill.
  23. Is there a place where people are discussing the ongoing Ken Burns special re: country music?
  24. Usually I enjoy these roasts. Jeff Ross is merciless (and hilarious) at these events. At the Baldwin roast, Glaser & Rhea were funny. But the rest of the roasters weren't all that funny to me. Ireland was, IMO, awful and her comments were way too personal to be humerous. It felt like we'd suddenly sequed into Divorce Court.
