All the best to Maia, a lovely person, who floated across the ice during her competitive days. I hope she has a quick recovery from surgery and a beautiful, healthy future.

See, this is where I must not be playing the game correctly. It bugged me that I missed Rhoda cause I watched that show from beginning to end. I keep forgetting the category topics. Is there a trick to remembering the topics?

Yay! I know a number of folks here don't care for Eric, but I like him. He's not smug. He was quite relieved tonight, actually, when he won. I did well on the cities. Was Rachmaninoff a TS? I love his music.
-
Eric's kinda cute, bouncing up & down. How did Dave(?) get to be champion last night? I wasn't home so I don't know how they all played. He seemed to be out of place on this show. Glad Eric did so well (but he didn't have tough competition). Will be interesting to see how he fares tomorrow. I must say it's interesting to see that people here still miss Jennifer. For FJ, I wrote MMM. Wasn't that one of the original names of that company? Could I have gotten away with that? Looking for a kind Jeopardy show judge (one of those faceless folks who let competitors get away with weird pronunciations!) 😉

I was relieved to see the last of Kirby as something about her looks (maybe her eyes) was like fingernails on a blackboard for me. Dagmar was precocious, something that an adult should not be. So thank goodness for the man in the middle! Starting to worry about Alex again. Have they started taping shows that will be on air several months from now? Do they ever take a real break?

Well, well, well...the new champ is gone. One and done. I was pleased to get 2 TS's: Huey Long & Napoleon (we stayed not too far from it several years ago so I recognized it). Could not get FJ. I like the new champ.

I haven't made this in years... just don't buy Cornish hens any more. But this is delicious so maybe I'll buy some little hens and make this again.
-
Silo Chicken (Skitch Henderson's Silo Cooking School recipe) 3 small chickens or large Cornish * game hens (1.5-2 lbs each) ½ lemon 1-1/2 tsps coarse salt 1 tsp finely chopped fresh sage or: 1/3 tsp leaf sage, crumbled ½ tsp snipped fresh chives ¼ tsp mild paprika or: ¼ tsp mild ground chilies 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper 1 jar (12 oz) apricot preserves ½ cup chicken broth 1 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard ½ tsp chopped fresh thyme or 1/8 tsp leaf thyme 1 tsp grated lemon rind ½ tsp black pepper Vegetable oil Remove back bones from chickens or hens. Cut each chicken in half through breast. Wipe chicken with damp paper toweling. Pound gently with flat side of cleaver or bottom of heavy saucepan to flatten chicken as much as possible. Squeeze lemon over chicken. Sprinkle with salt, sage, chives, paprika and cayenne. Wrap chicken in wax paper and place in 12 x 9 x 2” baking pan. Refrigerate overnight. Let chicken stand at room temperature 1 hour before grilling. Combine apricot preserves, chicken broth, soy sauce, mustard, thyme, lemon rind and pepper in saucepan. Bring to boiling. Lower heat and simmer 5 minutes. Let cool. Prepare charcoal for grilling, or preheat gas unit. Place chicken halves, skin side down, on grid. Sear over high heat until browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Turn chicken over and brown other side. Remove chicken from grid. Cover grid with heavy duty aluminum foil; punch ventilation holes every 2”. Brush foil lightly with oil Return chicken to foil, skin side up. Baste well with apricot mixture. Cover grill with dome. Cook, basting about every 5 minutes with apricot mixture, until juices run clear when chicken is pierced with fork and meat is no longer pink near bone, about 40 minutes. Makes 6 servings. Waaaaaa...I do not *ever* recall being so sad that a current champion was ousted. And, I was not interested in the new champ (nothing wrong with her...it's just that Jennifer has always been so calm, kind...ok, she's not one of the smug champs). I'm verklempt, as they say 😖

Bless her heart. Post surgery is so painful when you move around (as in getting out of bed just to go to the bathroom--so excruciating!)

Maine Cabin Masters - General Discussion
annzeepark914 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Maine Cabin Masters
I got sick of Ryan early on. He's not as funny as he thinks he is and he's becoming the Chip Gaines of the north. I guess this episode was thrown together as a promo for the new season...thus the lack of some expected crew members. Hope they have some interesting camps this season. I love the ones built in the 30's & 40's. -
Tara never competed again after she won gold in Nagano in '98. She didn't even go to World's in '98 and they weren't doing anything more difficult than triple triples back then.

Maine Cabin Masters - General Discussion

I happened to catch a rerun of a season 1 episode a few days ago. Good ol' Lance arrived at the work site early cause he didn't get or read the email sent out about a new arrival time (he said, in his Lance style, that he doesn't understand all this new technology). So, he started a fire in the fireplace. When the rest of the crew arrived, he greeted "the second shift". I wish he'd pop in from time to time cause his presence is sorely missed. I saw a promo re: season 4...that it will start in early January. -
I keep hoping that it will be folk dancing. First of all, it will be a stretch for a lot of these teams & some of them need a stretch. Secondly, I'd love to see them all in native country costumes.

It still amazes me how fast they come up with the answers. I can see the answer in my mind but I need another minute to provide a name for it. Pleased to get TS - bowler (hat). I laughed when the clue was about a second most populated city with an awkward name - Woooostahhh. Alex was kind and spelled it after he provided the correct name, Worcester. I enjoyed tonight's game and contestants.

I don't think I'll be watching that movie. Think I'll just stick with competitive skating at Nationals and Worlds. I'm nervous enough watching competitive pairs these past 10 or 15 years!

I've discovered a quick-to-make supper--Bertolli's Chicken al Fredo with Penne. I needed to get something on the table fast and this was very good (of course it had some sauted baby bello mushrooms, a little garlic powder, Mural of Flavor, & some white wine added to it). Think I'll keep a bag of this in my freezer for future quick-to-make suppers!
-
I must say, it's so nice to like the current repeat champion. Tonight I didn't do too badly (relatively speaking, heh heh). I know nothing of Harry Potter (initially I typed Henry!). I also liked the other two contestants. So, three good contestants--no eccentrics or annoying oddballs. I call that a good game night 😊

Uh-hunh. SS has had surgery, has had to be on the DL quite a bit each season. I'd have taken Rendon instead. The Lerners shouldn't be in MLB.
-
So, in other words, no big woo. Once again, Russia's athletes aren't really affected. They still are allowed to show up & compete against athletes from countries who don't dope their athletes. This crap won't stop until Russia's athletes are prevented from competing in the Olympics because of the doping issue.

I finally remembered to send an email to Wendy's about the wonderful staff at their West Hazleton, PA restaurant. It just dawned on me that my email (sent using their website form) has never been acknowledged. Strange. You'd think they'd be very happy to receive a positive review of their employees (and manager responsible for those good employees).

There's a chain of restaurants called First Watch that serves a delicious sandwich of ham, maybe Swiss cheese, slice of tomato, and Dijon on some kind of white bread and grill it. It's my favorite!
-
I sure hope it gets shown again. I'd like to see that. Maybe we'd get to see some other folks who probably ended up on the cutting room floor.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
annzeepark914 replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
Here's something odd: there are some shoes I can't wear if I've had a pedicure with polish. I hear a squeaky noise and it's from the thick layer of polish that they put on, esp the big toenail, rubbing against the shoe. Once I remove the polish, I can wear my good shoes (dressy flats, heels) w/o any noise. Next pedicure I'm just going to have her do everything except polish and save the polish for summertime. -
Re: FJ? I immediately thought of Monaco but then realized - hey, that's too easy! But I couldn't come up with any others (that I trusted would be correct) so I said, Monaco (to an empty room). No idea who the barbarians were. There's a statue of a monk outside the palace but I can't remember his story. Maybe he was part of the barbarians? I listened carefully to Alex tonight and didn't notice any hoarseness. Edited to add: I heard the mini "lecture" from Alex re the need to start at the top so one knows how the clues work (the rocket science category). A lesson to be learned, contestants. I only got one in the rocket science category--the rickets science (cause I had finally figured it out 🙄).
