  1. I went to a college in New England where my NY accent amused my roommates. So I did the same thing: taught myself how to pronounce words like coffee, dog, walk, etc., without that New Yawk accent (& Mid-Hudson twang). It only emerges when I'm really ticked awf :>)
  2. I only watch Looney Tunes from way back...esp the ones that have the "voices" w/ Brooklyn accents. To me, they are so hilarious--the crazy antics of the cartoon characters + the funny New Yawk ax-cents (I'm a New Yorker but still love all the varied accents in that state).
  3. Thursday 8:56 PM. There he is...our zoom hero, Jeffrey Toobin. I actually gasped seeing him on TV. So...life goes on.
  4. I've always like Jay Leno. His humor has always been clean and not derogatory toward females. The way certain comedians turned against him, the Team Coco crap...it reminded me so much of how mean girls in high school behave. Dave Letterman & Conan helped fan the flames, IMO.
  5. They won't because viewers are tuning in at different times all day and expect to be told what's going on in the world, brought up to speed, etc. Thus, the repeats every hour.
  6. I really feel sorry for Valerie. Her parents are gone, right? So she's clinging to someone who was a big part of her life from her 20's on, I think. And her son most likely is no comfort to her (just based on the way he acts on her show...somebody in this relationship is too much or too little).
  7. I am really stunned. He comes across as such a nice, easy going guy.
  8. Well, she did look frumpy at times. She's already a great First Lady (we need a modern title for these spouses!) so it's no big deal.
  9. Awww-right! This reminds me of the other saying that drives me crazy: "I take full responsibility for..." Yeah, ya numbskull. Who else should be responsible?
  10. Here's another redundancy: "at this point in time". It can either be at this point or at this time. I need to go do something productive with my life 🤓

    MSNBC

I don't watch Scarborough. I've tried to over the years, but he's just too full of himself. Does he have great ratings? Or is MSNBC trying to look impartial by having a Republican hosting a show? I wonder why he hasn't been replaced?
  12. This was my suspicion immediately...that he did it intentionally. It will be interesting to see if he's invited to appear on shows (do the hosts have control over the guests invited to appear?)
  13. Actually, CNN wasn't the scene of the crime. He was on a zoom meeting of New Yorker staffers/writers. The New Yorker fired him, thank goodness. I can't wait for Zucker to leave CNN (end of this year??). Allowing Toobin, who has become a joke now, to be on air with one's very professional employees is beyond insulting to them.
  14. OK...I have just become an editor at Wikipedia! So, now I can say I've gone back to work, right? I saw the name, Wallkill, in that photo and wanted to check the spelling...it looked odd for some weird reason (my excuse is that I grew up on the other side of the Hudson so I don't really know the town). First sentence at Wikipedia said Wallkill is in Ulster County. Wrong!! So I opened an account (so I could correct this mistake to read Orange County) and, eureka! I was welcomed as an editor 😁. I'm really feeling cool right now.
  15. Nah. Fewer? Less? IMO, it's just not egregious enough. Not like the infamous "I" that feels like long fingernails on a blackboard (are blackboards used anywhere any more?)
  16. I started grinding my teeth while reading the info' re: less vs fewer. The hell with it. I'll continue using whichever word comes into my noggin first. I bet most people don't even notice when the "wrong" word is used.
  17. I find both Lemon & Cuomo to be pompous. They always sound as though it's so wearying to try to educate their viewers. I tried to watch their shows but switched to reading the latest news online at the Washington Post & NY Times.
  18. We just had a take-out gourmet dinner, compliments of the Reston, VA Community Center in lieu of their annual vol appreciation dinner. Gourmet entrees (I had beef tenderloin & our tax aid volunteer had sea bass), gorgeous salads topped w/ fricos & candied bacon, white truffle & cauliflower bisque, 2 Chocolate Creameaux, and 2 wine glasses w/ battery candles & "lampshades". It all came packed in a pretty tote bag. They always have gourmet food at their appreciation dinners but this take-out version was special.
  19. My dad used to announce summer & winter solstices, esp winter cause it meant we were now on the march toward spring. That meant thinking about our summer lake cottage (or "camp" as they say in New England😁) and I guess that made NY winters more bearable. Now MrP914 makes the announcements just for the helluvit.
  20. This type of grammar error, IMO, is no biggie (along with "bring/take" and nowadays the "who/whom" battles). The one that really screeches is the mistaken use of "I" by way too many people (e.g., "These grammatical errors don't mean a lot to my husband and I"). If you want to know which is correct, just remove the other person ("These grammatical errors don't mean a lot to I" 🤨).
  21. Judy Woodruff was overjoyed to have David Brooks & Jonathan Capehart in the studio, sitting across from her. Slowly but surely, things are getting back to almost normal.
  22. I kept wanting to go to CNN but MrP914 wanted to hear what CM had to say. It was exhausting!
  23. I feel sorry for the on-air talent at CNN, esp the ones whose programs he'll be appearing on.
