S04.E01/E02: The End & The Beginning/A World Without

Sadly yes. Season 1 had Diggle showing up to remind viewers it was part of the Arrowverse, and they were going to lean into crossovers with Batwoman but Covid scrapped all those plans. Then, in their infinite wisdom, they decided to retcon the show out of the Arrowverse with zero explanation as to why Diggle was around. They should have just continued on and just not explained why no other Arrowverse character came by. On the other hand we wouldn't have gotten Michael's Lex and the AMAZING WIG so at least there's that. -

I'd forgotten how goofy Doomsday looked. To be fair, I don't know if there's a way Doomsday could look anything but goofy in live action. Maybe Disney will one day let them lease Goofy and just have him play the character! Go to hell, Dooms! Martha Kent made that suit! I really do like how Michael plays Lex Luthor but he'll always be Brenda Walsh's prom date to me. How much fun would it be if Mrs. Teasley was the key to defeating him? Ooooh a flashback to Clark Telling Lois! And admitting he's a virgin, hee. Tyler does a good job with the endearing dorky of Clark and I'm going to miss that. It's cute Lex thinks Lois isn't capable of kicking his ass all on her own. Snugglemuffin with the emotional support. Still the best. Random but the first time I ever heard Lex yell "Miss Tessmacher!" I thought he was yelling "Miss Tess Macher!" and figured he was one of those guys who uses full names to make a point. It was a LONG time before I realized that was just her last name. Lex, even if you'd only just come to town you're one of the most famous people on the planet so OF COURSE the twins know who you are. "Kinda sounds like you're the problem." HAHAHAHAHA! I love Jon Kent. OH MY GOD I LOVE LEX'S WIG!!! HE SHOULD WEAR THIS WIG ALL THE TIME AND THEN IT SHOULD HAVE ITS OWN SHOW!!!! Maybe the loss of that AMAZING wig is the real reason Lex is pissy. Maybe Elizabeth will have the wig and he'll leave her and the rest of the world alone when he gets it back. Lane was saved so is he going to enter Witness Protection? Frog Boy, Otis, he's FROG BOY. Good thing the street's almost empty because we don't need the whole town learning the truth. Just kidding it looks like there's more people. Surely at least one or two figured it out just based on the twins but Lana seems to have prevented the rest. Nope we're not doing this Lois. All that would have happened if you'd done what Lex wanted is he would have won and continued to force you to do his bidding. Standing up to him was the right call. If Lex doesn't want to become a celebrity CEO, who are we to argue? This is the first good thing he's done since he showed up let's not discourage him. Frog Boy got in Lex's face and ::facepalm:: He's lucky Lex didn't laugh in his face. Jordan, you may have powers but Lex can still beat you. Lex finally figured it all out. So did he figure it out before or after Frog Boy got in his face? Well, Lois thinks it was the confrontation and I won't disagree. Jon and Sarah are a much better pairing than Jordan and Sarah. I don't mean romantically as I'm still very much anti-sibling swapping but the characters are far more natural in their scenes. I hope Jordan succeeds in spite of the OBVIOUS TRAP he was drawn into. I was hoping Lex would take Jordan's hair to keep on theme of my theory he's searching for that AMAZING WIG but stomping on Clark's heart was brutal. I agree with Lois they should stick together but it is nice to see Jon lose his temper even if for a moment. I know Clark's going to come back but it would be wild if the final season had him in hologram mode only. I remember on the show Krypton there was a machine that created babies just from a bit of blood from each parent. Maybe a version of that machine exists and could build Clark a new heart? -

Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals

Gavin took part in one of the sexiest performances I've seen. Years ago he and Aaron Tveit partnered to sing Take Me Or Leave Me (Rent) for the Miscast Benefit. They had a ball playing up the tension between Maureen and Joanne and it was HOT. The number of people expressing their love and sorrow is massive so I hope he felt some of it before he passed. -

One way to look at Cuba’s casting is it certainly pissed off OJ. You know he watched just enough to see his portrayal and was furious they didn’t cast a movie star to play him.

In today's tour of competition's past I checked out the 1998 Goodwill Games. First, stupid network decided no one would be interested in Moceanu's beam routine which I'm still pissed about 25+ years later. Anyway, I still love watching her win the all-around and also watching Vanessa Atler later win vault and floor in event finals. It really is amazing how many coaches just cannot recognize their own faults when it comes to their athletes. I know Vanessa and Steve Rybacki are on good terms now but he and Beth failed her. They should have made sure she saw a sports therapist, spoken and worked with her doctor to make sure she was physically healthy, and changed the bars routine. I remember reading the claims that Vanessa was the one who wanted to keep the Comaneci salto and her poor coaches were powerless against her. Ok, bullshit. The only reason that move remained in her bars routine is because it was worth points, was unique when compared to other gymnasts, and the Rs were too stubborn to make changes that were in the best interest of their athlete. I remember Vanessa hitting that salto exactly ONE time in competition, after which she burst into tears of relief, and the rest of the time she fell. If the plan was to keep it in so she could work to overcome that demon then, fine, but once she did it should have been retired and a new routine put in place. I think if Moceanu had been healthy in 2000 she would have been our best shot for an individual medal. She had great routines in place that were on par with the rest of the world in terms of difficulty and execution. All her coaches had to do was keep her consistent after she proved herself in 98 but, like always, they overtrained her to the point of injury and that was it.

Jaws (1975): 40 anniversary special release! (2 days only)

It was weird hearing Joe speak with that old, I don't know what to call it, formal accent that used to be the norm for actors. I knew he wasn't actually Italian but it just suits him better. -
Gender On Television: It's Like Feminism Never Happened
scarynikki12 replied to Bastet's topic in Everything Else TV
Regina remained evil she just got better publicists. The show did that thing I hate and has sadly become the norm for characters who are evil but popular with viewers: a character in the show declares the evil one to be redeemed and then this declaration is treated as gospel. The evil character never actually changes their behavior, apologizes for the past actions, or bothers to make amends to those they've wronged even a little but they're considered redeemed and woe be to anyone who disagrees. Once had enough of us voicing objection to Regina being declared redeemed that they'd occasionally touch upon the issue but nothing permanent. Regina got to claim until the show's end that Snow had Daniel killed but Snow was only allowed to fight back once (as far as I can recall) and it was because she was under a spell. Meanwhile the actual murderer of Daniel, Regina's mother Cora, was allowed to mend her relationship with her daughters, her death was presented as a great tragedy, and the show retconned her history to make her own evil deeds be the fault of Snow's mother. Then the show ends with Snow leading the campaign to declare Regina the dictator of the multiverse. They really should have given Regina a spinoff. Take her away from the thousands of people she kidnapped, brainwashed, and ruined their lives and give her a new start in a world where no one has heard of her and she gets to learn and make new choices. Instead she continued on as she always had just with her victims becoming her cheerleaders.- 1.3k replies

Jaws (1975): 40 anniversary special release! (2 days only)

Jaws and sequels are currently on Netflix and last night I got curious and watched 2. I remember watching when I was little but I haven't seen it since. Man that is a boring movie. The directing difference between Spielberg and whoever did 2 is so dramatic and I think the Academy should have given him a retroactive Best Director Oscar. But, yeah, it's boring. I can handle a bad movie easily and many times bad movies can be among the most fun but a boring movie is the worst. There were people getting eaten by the shark and I couldn't have been less interested. -

I appreciate Faith willingly going to prison before returning for the end of Buffy. That’s the kind of choice that goes a long way towards convincing me the character feels remorse, recognizes their bad actions/villainy, and is an early step towards redemption. Regina just had to make a sad face about no one begging for her lasagna and she’s considered redeemed. -
KATIE IS OLD ENOUGH TO PLAY ARAMIBTA?!?!! Also she’ll be great.

Truvy is short for Gertrude, Ouiser for Louisa, M'Lynn I'm guessing is for something like Mary Lynn, Clairee for Claire. Annelle likely never had enough family or friends growing up to get a nickname like the other ladies. Spud's formal name could be anything and I think Drum is probably just short for Drummond. The variety of nicknames are probably similar to the nicknames of Robert's parents and their friends and neighbors in real life and they provide a memorable and diverse array of character names. I'm just grateful we didn't get any Southern nicknames like Earl or Bubba. Even if 100% accurate to the story it would just seem cliche.

I'm doing my post-Olympics rewatch of earlier games and I'm reminded of a question I have but always forget to ask: What is with certain Romanian gymnasts using both legs to lead? Simona Amanar and in 92 Christina Bontas are both gymnasts who, when doing a roundoff into a tumbling pass or Yurchenko vault, lead with their left leg. But when they do any other move that requires a leading leg (layout step-outs, wolf jumps, simple cartwheels, etc) they lead with their right. Romania is the only country I've seen with gymnasts who use both, so I think it's specific to them, and it only occurs with the gymnasts who lead with their left leg for tumbling or vaults. Right leading gymnasts like Milo or Gogean never used their left legs to lead on any moves so my thought is this is another Belu (I'll be nice) quirk. I'm wondering if he did the gymnastics equivalent of when schools forced left handed students to use their right hands. It may have just been about uniformity, rather than the old view about using the left hand was a sign of the devil, but it's still so weird. I think the only reason the left leading gymnasts were allowed to use that leg on vault and tumbling was because they'd always be stronger that way and whatever the reason/prejudice Belu would want to win first and foremost. I guess there's a chance the gymnasts could have been ambidextrous but I think it was a Belu thing. Related but not really, another question about from past Olympics and other competitions was: how in the hell did Romania get away with Gina Gogean not doing a tumbling pass in her beam routine? I remember seeing a piece about how she used to do the back handspring to 2 or 3 layouts like everyone else but the pass was taken out after a nasty fall. I get that. That moment must have been so scary and you know Belu never allowed therapists anywhere near the athletes so the resulting trauma never got dealt with. That doesn't change the fact that the Code of Points for the 96 and 2000 quads required a tumbling pass on beam and Gina didn't do one. I even looked to see if her dismount, which was the standard Romanian two back handsprings to double tuck, counted as a tumbling pass and it did not. Yet Gina's beam routines were always somehow out of a ten, no penalties were ever applied for not including a required element, she was regularly making all-around and beam finals, and she has a bunch of medals due to those routines. If Moceanu's nasty fall in the 96 beam finals had led to her not having a tumbling pass on beam in the 2000 quad you know she and the US would have been penalized so bad she would have been prevented from being on the Olympic team long before she had the chance to get injured. If Nadia wants to talk about judging bullshit she can start with Gina's beam routine.

I'm assuming the delays are about finding a replacement for Gaiman and then production will continue.

My Lady Jane is a single season set in the Tudor era. It has shapeshifters, palace intrigue, and awesome chemistry between the leads. It’s on Prime.

I think JLo should stick to having a serious boyfriend and leave marriage off the table. I feel like the odds of a relationship truly lasting are better for her if she give this a try. Plus it's cheaper.- 4.2k replies

Did they say anything about the Closing Ceremonies being held elsewhere? Because they're always in the same place as Opening and, if they need time to switch to swimming, it stands to reason they'll need time to switch back. Maybe the swimming will be held in the middle of the Games giving them a couple days to make the switch? Also I take it track and field are intended to be held elsewhere if swimming is in SoFi? I hope they plan on using the same cauldron from 32 and 84 but the change in venue has me thinking they're going for a new one.
