  1. Wow American Fiction. I was sure Barbie would be the spoiler if Oppenheimer didn't win so this is a (good) surprise.
  2. Anatomy Of A Fall for Original Screenplay. I still need to see that. I enjoy a good murder mystery.
  3. Melissa's dress should have gone with a pale pink instead of magenta. Pale pink goes better with bold red.
  4. When I checked Wikipedia the other week it (erroneously obviously) had him listed as no Oscar wins.
  5. I think it's more that Into won and they get to (finally) give it to Miyazaki.
  6. The Boy And The Heron!! About time Miyazaki won one.
  7. If the John Lennon Yoko Ono short doesn't will I'll be surprised. Yep, no surprise. This isn't a comment on its quality, only on the laziness of the voters, many of whom no doubt saw John and Yoko and voted without watching anything else.
  8. Probably one of the "lesser" categories like the short films, even though they often give the best speeches.
  9. They let the actors go on strike and prevent billions of profits so I doubt they'll have learned their lesson. Paul escorting Da'Vine to her trophy is so sweet. Their relationship is so lovely. Bravo to Mama Da'Vine for directing her to acting. So well deserved.
  10. I like the five presenting the actor categories. It allows for a more personal touch. And it will help the ceremony go long and the crew will get their overtime.
  11. I love the standing ovation for IATSE. They're negotiation their next contract right now and, in all likelihood, will end up on strike so they deserve all the recognition and support they can get.
  12. I am sad Margot isn't wearing a version of Peaches and Cream Barbie dress. That was tailor made for the Oscars.
  13. I hope Godzilla Minus One wins it's category.
  14. Taylor Zakhar Perez. Most recently he was in Red, White, & Royal Blue and is networking the hell out of this awards season.
  15. I was browsing the list of titles of Nora's books and I randomly remembered one of the best retcons of any book, movie, or tv show: Freddie's hair. When we meet her in Natasha's book she has straight blonde hair. Spencer even makes a point of telling Natasha Freddie's adoration is so strong she wants to curl her hair. Yet in the next Stanislaski book Freddie's hair is being described as reddish blonde and curly. The color change isn't a retcon as plenty of people born with blonde hair will see it change as they age but straight hair becoming as curly as Freddie's did isn't exactly common. Obviously Nora just changed her mind and decided Freddie should have naturally curly hair but I like the idea that Freddie loves Natasha so much she willed her hair to change texture and shape. It makes me laugh. I was also thinking more about the Oxymoron category and True Betrayals would make for another good adaptation. Kelsey is a great protagonist and her relationships with all the main players work really well while Millicent is an excellent villain even before we learn the whole story. We would get great landscape porn and who doesn't love watching horses running and frolicking? Lots of potential just like her other books.
  16. A couple more Big Bang Theory unpopular opinions: I wish they'd written Penny to be great at waitressing. It would explain why she didn't pursue acting as strenuously as she should have since California servers make minimum wage before tips. Penny being a great waitress could have put her in a position where she was making decent money and that would be hard to give up. Things like her not getting her car properly fixed or sponging off the guys wouldn't negate that as her spending priorities would be other things. The other is Sheldon constantly putting down MIT and engineering. For a man who constantly brought up various facts about an array of subjects he was willfully ignorant about how many engineers don't need PhDs like other scientists. His constant putting down Howard made him look foolish which was not his intention. Also MIT is a world class school and has a top notch physics program so calling it a trade school made him look even more foolish. The best karma for Sheldon and Amy would be for their kids to not have any interest in science and instead end up with PhDs and Nobel Prizes in a "lesser" field like literature. Or to not end up with an advanced degree at all and be perfectly content. Finally I think the only reason Sheldon has so much self confidence is because the Coopers were his family. When we first met Beverly, Sheldon expresses a desire to have been raised the way Leonard was but he wouldn't have thrived at all. The Hofstadters would have emotionally abused him exactly the same way they abused Leonard and his siblings and they were all intellectuals. Sheldon benefits from being coddled and needs to feel he's the smartest in the room. That wouldn't have been the case if the Hofstadters were his family.
  17. Choosing a singular favorite is super hard so instead I'm cheating. Favorite book from the Oxymoron category: Genuine Lies. I love the Old Hollywood of it all and the mystery and romance are rock solid. Favorite series and book from said series: The MacGregors and The Winning Hand. The whole family is charming and I think Darcy and Mac compliment each other well. Ian and Naomi are a close second but I would have preferred to read them in a proper novel where we could have gotten more exploration. Favorite book that is not part of a series or category: Montana Sky. I think the three sisters are nicely balanced in the story and, while I wish we'd gotten just a bit more from Tess' story with regard to continuing her career while living in Montana, their romances worked well. It had a nice group of supporting characters who all felt like people even if they were in only a couple of scenes. The serial killer story was also well done and the whodunit reveal was both laid out well and a surprise when I first read it. Favorite book in spite of the main story: Carolina Moon. The main story is fine. The mystery is good and works on reread. But I return to this book over and over because I love Faith and Wade. Favorite book that is part of a series I otherwise don't care about: Lawless. I've mentioned this one before but it bears repeating as I love it.
  18. We could have a thread devoted solely to the issues Troy has and taking away the romantic relationship between Achilles and Patroclus is among the worst. In The Iliad Achilles goes apeshit and hunts down Hector because losing Patroclus, who he is in love with, rips his heart in two and the only thing he can focus on in his grief is getting revenge. He's a selfish and arrogant asshole on a normal day and only the death of the person he loves so deeply would cause him to react this way. The Achilles of the movie does not care about Patroclus so there's no reason he should feel compelled to challenge Hector over his death.
  19. Oppenheimer causing to its Best Picture win. They're going to have a great night.
  20. Lily! Love her dress but especially her earrings.
  21. Aw Pedro didn't expect to win so he got a little drunk.
