One thing I really love about Sean Baker is he's such an ambassador for independent film. He's spent the whole awards season praising it and I'm glad he got to end the night doing it again.

And there it is. Anora caps off one hell of a night. Good for them.

I was certain Best Actor was the category in question and the others were a lock but it turned out to be Actress.

WOW I was wrong. Go Mikey! Anora's got this all sewn up.

I haven't seen it either but it's got a mix of positive and negative. More positive I'd say and it did win at PGA and DGA so that plus the wins tonight are making it look likely for Picture. On the other hand Picture does ranked choice voting and if enough voters don't rank it high enough we may see another La La Land/Moonlight situation (hopefully without the envelope shenanigans). I doubt it. As Demi's pointed out this season is the first time she's EVER been in the hunt and the voter are also notorious for hesitating to award young actors on the theory they'll be back.

Unless the ranked voting goes wild I think Anora's got this wrapped up.

Brody has been the odds on favorite this whole award season (SAG aside) yet his speech would make more sense if he were a surprise. I know he's emotional so I'm not judging too hard but I wish he'd written it down.

A surprising number of people think he won for Schindler's List.

I hope Conan gets a lot of these people to guest on the podcast. Cillian! I bet Nolan spent every day of the last week reminding him to show up. Also, Cillian, do Conan's podcast. Was hoping Ralph would sneak in but I guess not. Adrian, he's pretty but PLEASE refrain from kissing Cillian.

HA! Coleman and Rachel Zegler just JUMPED to their feet at the first opportunity. Love that level of enthusiasm. Coleman is also always fun at these things even if he's not (yet, dammit, YET) winning.

Queen Latifah!! Incidentally why isn't she part of every Oscar telecast? She's such a hoot.

Legendary duo implies they're known for making movies together (eg, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, or DeNiro and Scorsese) but, knowing these producers, they probably do mean two people who did one project together forty years ago. Guess we'll see.

I think so. Unless one of next year's nominees does something similar or worse I think we'll see the format return for the actors.

Dune 2 for Sound. I wonder if Wicked and Emilia Perez split the vote? Which isn't to say Dune didn't deserve, as it absolutely does, but I expected one of those musicals to take it.
