Just finished Love Is Blind Mexico. Man, hate to say, I did not like any of them except maybe Rene. Everybody looked alike. The men all had the same hairline, beard and body type. Again only Rene and Chema looked different. And Chema kinda reminded me of Tan France from Queer Eye. The women, ditto. I was so happy Netflix always put the names on the screen. I think Silvia was the most distinctive, her face had a lot of personality and she was taller than everyone else. And it didn't help they referred to both the male Fernando and the female Fernanda as 'Fer'. LOL But geez, Fernanda and Francesca were mean. Karen was passive aggressive with Irais, even though I never really bought Irais' second thoughts about Rene because at the reveal she really seemed like she was NOT attracted to him. And, tbh, it was giving some colorism vibes. And how the heck could Saul not know that Leti basically recoiled from him? I was not rooting for any of them. Congrats to Karen and Fernando, I guess. Wonder if he accommodates her desire for threesomes?

I mean I could have done a huge list. One of my favorites is Wonder Woman. I still love that campy ass song. "In your satin tights, Fighting for your rights And the old Red, White and Bluuuuueee-ooooh' The piano trills, the background vocals... that song was fire!! But there are so many more... Welcome Back, Kotter, The Greatest American Hero, LaVerne and Shirley....

On the other side to end credits, I miss a good opening fun theme song. Actual songs with words that you could sing along to, like The Jeffersons, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Gilligan's Island, the OC, Friends etc. There are still some out there, I think Ted Lasso had a theme song with words, but it wasn't very sing-along friendly.

Same. I love the US version. Couldn't get into the UK version.

I have to give it to them, that was a great reunion show. No unnecessary dramatics. Even the Sam segment wasn't overly Tabloid-sensational. I have no idea who the hosts are, but they kept it moving and asked some good follow ups. I am absolutely shocked by Steven and Sabrina. Not just that they are broken up because they really gave me a Brett and Tiffany vibe, just low key and in love, but how absolutely bitter they seem toward each other. I am on her side, she came with specific examples and receipts, he just called her a liar. Aww... Jasmine and Booby! I didn't have any strong feelings about them one way or the other but I am glad they are super in love. Ollie and Demi. I was sure they would at least date after, but no contact at all. And he's with Sharlotte now. Huh. Bu dang, could the guy answer a question definitively? He hemmed and hawed and never gave a direct answer to anything. Demi looked fabulous and I was soooo happy when she very frustratedly burst out and told Sam to apologize to Nicole. I give Sam credit, he was a villain but he was a contrite one. Not like some of the ones we've gotten on the US version who double down. But do I think it is really nasty business that he outright lied on Nicole about the sex thing. Yeah he admitted it was a lie, but he said that shit on international tv. Terrible. Super happy about Nicole and Benaiah. Their unseen footage was so lovely. The show did them a solid there. Also I loved their one year of marriage video, it was so witty and looked liked they've had a good first year. Tom and Maria. No surprises there. I am gobsmacked that he came off better and than Steven did during this reunion. She looked gorgeous. Fredd-ay and Catherine. No surprise there either. Very good season!

So I finally found some time to watch the UK version. I liked this overall. This felt like the Season 1 of a show, where everybody seemed authentic and nobody was there to try to game the system or just get (Reality TV) famous. Sabrina and Steven were like the UK's version of Tiffany and Brett. They were both attractive and low drama. Not boring though, like poor Amy and Johnny (who I had to look up their names because I completely forgot everything about them except they were the only S6 people who got married). Nicole and Benaiah were a good "storyline." It is interesting to see this has happened again so soon after Bliss/Zach. I was nervous because I was rooting for them. I was sure her willies about getting married again would derail them getting married. But was glad to be proven wrong. Demi and Ollie just seemed of full of angst and drama all the time. I am not surprised they did not get married. I agree with @ichbin that they planned it. OIlie is not a great actor, LOL. And they both seemed very ok with it. Tom and Maria were also interesting. I was not rooting for them though. They seemed mismatched. And on a personal note, the whole 'my man must take care of me, must pay for everything' gives me the squicks. I am with Tom on that, even though I never could bring myself to like him, like him. I felt vindicated in my dislike when he said 'no' then then just noped out. He said his piece and just ... left. Everyone else who said no addressed the guests, gave a hug, tries to ease the situation. Not Tom, he just left her there to deal. And this right after her mother told him to call her 'Mom.' Dude. Jasmine and Bobby. Man they were so boring. LOL. Her mother was the most interesting thing about them. Happy for the though. And she looked gorgeous. His cousin had my husband cracking up. Every time the camera shot to him in the wedding, my husband said you couldn't tell if he was crying or just stoned. LOL. Catherine and Fredd-ay. Another couple that felt mismatched. I was sure she was gonna be the one to say no. But I was happy they did not get married. Freddy's sister is so pretty, giving major young Anna-Nicole Smith vibes. When he went to speak to Catherine's parents he was so good and sympathetic with them. My husband said this was his wheelhouse. Comforting grieving people. Looking forward to the reunion to see if the married couples are still together (hoping they are!)

Nobody is exactly saying what the beef is between Blake and Baldoni. The most we are getting is that she thinks he body shamed her when he asked someone in production how much she weighed. Apparently there is a scene where he has to lift her. But he has a bad back and wanted to work with a trainer to strengthen it in prep for the scene. And then she said that during a kissing scene he kissed her too long. People then wondered if there was an intimacy coordinator on the set. Blake seemed to say that she was her own intimacy coordinator but then back tracked. But outside of whatever spat is going on between them, she is getting criticism with the way she is promoting the new movie. She seems to want to Barbie-fy it. She is trying to promote it the way Margo et. al promoted Barbie with all the pink etc. She is a florist in the movie so all of her clothes are aggressively floral and she is promoting it like a rom-com telling women to wear their florals and bring their girls for a fun girls night out. Except the movie heavily features a domestic violence plot. Also there is some people who think there is a breach of professional ethics. Justin is the director but apparently, Blake and Ryan Reynolds wrested control of the movie away from him. Blake even said in an interview that Ryan wrote a pivotal scene in the movie. Which was apparently a surprise to the screenwriter who had been asked about the scene Ryan wrote during an interview in a red carpet. The Screenwriter seemed baffled because she said the scene in question was definitely her writing and she had heard nothing about Ryan writing scenes. The non-related interview in 2016 starts with the interviewer congratulating Blake in her baby bump (Blake had announced her pregnancy prior to the interview). At which point Blake turned around and congratulated the inerviewer on her baby bump. Except the woman wasn't pregnant and in fact was unable to have children. And the rest of the interview was a rather passive aggressive display of Blake and Parker Posey talking to each other and studiously ignoring the interviewer. It was odd.

Interview with the Vampire Media

This is where I am. I love the show and think the acting is stellar. But it is not a comedy. Comedy is hard enough to get real respect from critics and voters -- witness how very few comic films or performances get Oscar recognition. And even worse, comedy is harder to write and act, imo, than drama. You really have to be able to make people consistently laugh, jokes have a rhythm that requires a set up and a payoff, sometimes in just one line. And good comedy acting requires a specific type of timing. So yeah, the Bear being in the comedy categories is most definitely gaming the syste imo. Also how do you judge some of those really fraught, emotional moments against, say, the characters on Abbott Elementary having running a silly obstacle race? (which was hysterical, btw). And more importantly, it sucking up all the slots in the comedy categories mean that excellent, legitimate shows and actors (like Ghosts and Renee Elise Goldsberry, for instance) get squeezed out. I am glad more and more people are giving it the side-eye. So much more than last year.

Naw. Fergie's was terrible. But at least she stayed on key (mostly). Hilariously, someone wrote a book rendition of Fergie's version and it is hysterical!!- 1.4k replies

I happened across Stanley Tucci's recipe for Crab Stuffed Cheddar Bay Biscuits with Lemon Butter. I made them with creamy garlic shrimp over angel hair. Had that on our deck last evening with some lovely white wine. It was a great meal.

Man, George Peppard sounds like a piece of work. Apparently he thought so highly of himself as an actor on the A-Team that he was rather put out that Mr T. was the breakout star. He also denigrated Mr. T's acting ability (I mean yeah the guy was no De Niro, but it is rude to dis your co-worker).

I very much agree as long and "not friends" is all it is and the working atmosphere remain healthy. You can be cordial and professional without being BFFs. The danger comes in when the "not friends" is actually closer to a "dislike" and especially if one person has a higher power profile than the other. That is when the workplace has the opportunity to slide over from strictly professional to hostile for the person with the lower power profile (or even the entire set in general). They can find themselves the recipient of behaviors that don't rise to abusive or criminal but can still be uncomfortable and can affect their work and health. And it can bleed onto the screen if the animosity is bad enough and actually affect the show.

RIP Angela. Her song 'I Try' is an R&B classic. Such a gorgeous depth in her voice. -
That was a season 2 thing. Got resolved and that was when they discovered Grace was pregnant.

Uh, except white, young and thin. LOL. And yeah, blame the studios on being less than adventurous. But why not write an article about actors who should be the ones studios should be seeking out for more projects? A lot of the people on the list have not successfully opened a film. They have face recognition and some vocal online fanbases. But that hasn't translated to asses in seats. There are a lot of actors of color who have similar movie pedigrees as some of the people on here who would never be sought after because they are POC. Are you telling me Ayo Edebiri is less recognizable than Paul Mescal? Also why is Glen Powell's 35 year old ass on that list and not say, Stephanie Hsu at 33? Does 'young' have different meanings for men vs. women?
-
Welp. I am out. I came for a new ensemble and when the show veered into All Rob all the time territory, I hung in because of Grace and Judd. I just hope they don't kill the character off. I wouldn't be surprised because they absolutely love heaping trauma after trauma on their cast.

I remember feeling the same way when I first had it. It was many years ago at a favorite Italian-American restaruant. It was around Halloween and they had a very seasonal menu. On theirs it was sweet potato filled rather than butternut squash, but it had the white sauce, with the hint of nutmeg and sage. And they topped their with toasted bread crumbs. It was a such a different taste and the ravioli pasta was thin and a little transluscent. The taste profile was incredible, between the slight sweetness of the filling, the savory of the sauce and the nuttiness of the nutmeg, and the toatiness of the bread crumbs plus the texture of the silky pasta. At the time it was the only place near us that had it so it was a limited treat. If you have a Wegman's near you, they have butternut squash ravioli both a fresh kind in the fridge section and a frozen kind. And the ravioli is not too thick, which ruins is for me from some other brands. Also there are tons of sauce recipes.

Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

During the, I think it was the London Olympics, we got a VPN and watched the British coverage. So different. They'd show entire events. And when it was over, they'd show the time from the event to the medal ceremony. I can see why NBC would not necessarily show that, since it usually consisted of the athletes, gathering up their stuff, getting told where to line up, where to go etc. But it was fascinating. Also they'd show sports NBC never showed, like indoor track cycling. I had never seen that sport ever on NBC and yet I became fascinated with it in 2012. For the summer olympics, I will say, I love the NBC sports analysts who do the track and field announcing. Ato Boldon, Sanya Richards-Ross and Carole Lewis are great to listen to as they talk about the athletes. They are knowledgeable of the sport and enthusiastic. Since the Track and Field events are my hands down favorites for summer, I do make sure to watch the NBC coverage. -
Yeah. Honestly, I have not watched the last two episodes and that has never happened. This season had felt like what Lone Star feels like all the time. That show has always prioritized the misfortunes of their main cast and Rob Lowe over the actual 911 calls. And while this show has also had its fair share of main cast trauma, it always had a much better balance with humor and interesting rescues. I honestly would need to go back and look and see how many rescues they did this season that did not directly involved one of their own being the rescuee. I am crossing my fingers that the lack of rescues is a by-product of the short episode count (10 as opposed to the normal 18) and the restricted time they had in getting the shows up and going after the strike. I checked the episode writers and they are the same people who have written rescue heavy episodes in the past. So I am hoping a full season to course correct is on the horizon. I will of course watch when it comes back, but if it doesn't get back that balance I'll probably not watch as regularly.

S01.E01: Queen To Be
DearEvette replied to Door County Cherry's topic in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
They don't go into a lot of detail, but they do give us more info as this series goes on especially about Lady D and her background. But all of the POC who were elevated were very rich, landed folks. They just were not titled. The rich, landed gentry would not have socialized in the same circles as the ton (the titled nobility). Hence the elevation to give Charlotte some brown/black folks to be around so she didn't seem so 'other'.
