  1. Yes, she is toying with Maggie. And yes it is cruel. But what she and Riggs has isn't the past. Meredith is stringing him along as much as she is Maggie. Asking him to not go out on the date and flirting with him is definitely continuing to show present interest and keeping him dangling. If she had no real interest in him, she'd shut him down definitively and would actively encourage him to date Maggie. And their sex in the car would have just been a nice memory, a simple one and done. But she isn't doing that. This is why I think no matter how tiresome Maggie is with her incessant talking about Riggs, she is just merely being annoying. But Mer is on another level of obnoxious here. Even if Meredith doesn't really consider herself close to Maggie and doesn't feel that whole sisterly thing, she knows that Maggie clearly does feel that way. Given how obvious Maggie is about her feelings for Meredith and her feelings for Riggs, what Meredith is doing playing head games and that makes Mer the sole asshole in this scenario.
  2. Where was this? I missed this completely? I saw a top-of-the show cartoon that factually encapsulated the systemic methods to historically disenfranchise black voters. I saw Dre being his usual over the top self with his crying over the Obamas leaving by making a Boyz II Men homage slide show, which was more to play up his own hero worship that everyone else sort of nodded their heads with a "Dre gonna Dre" attitude I saw a lot of sharp commentary about how politicians use methods that have nothing to do with issues and everything to do with manipulating people's emotions to vote the way they want them to. In this ep is just so happens that because Junior was the politician in question he used methods that were targeted toward his white peers, but were unpalatable to him to get people to vote for him. I saw a lot of commentary about how people vote for reasons that have nothing to do with issues and often do it uninformed. Ruby voting blindly Democrat despite her ideology being in line with Trump . Also Pops and Johan choosing NOT to vote because of ...reasons was also subtly condemned as ignorant. I did not see the show make some black-is better statement. If anything, i think it was as much a condemnation on black folks who vote party line even if the party is doing nothing for them specifically. I also think making Junior the focal point was a smart choice because out of all of them, he is probably the purest of heart. he is just a sweet kid who likes the stuff he likes. And having him win not because he manipulated people based on race or identity politics, but because he championed an important cause that was critical for everyone was the bigger message the show imparted.
  3. I was cringing. LOL. But it reminded me of an episode of Grey's Anatomy where there was a whole series of scenes of the doctors teaching the students how to give bad news to the family when a patient dies. They were like "You have to say the word: Died." you can' t say "passed on" or "perished" or anything else like that, You have to give it to them straight out "your father/mother/sister/brother died". And then later I was watching a different show where a student stumbled through telling the family abut the death of an uncle and she used the word "expired" and the family was so baffled. It was a comedy, but still is made me understand you just need to say stuff right out in these instances.
  4. Heh. That is the Grey's Sci-Fi timeline stuff happening. Kinda like last season where one episode April is barely showing and Mer and Riggs have sex. But in what is apparently only a day or two later at the wedding, April is ready to pop and can give birth to a viable child.
  5. Thank you! Just seeing their interaction with her after hearing the conversation just made it all the more creepy and added a layer of subtext over every word they said to her and every action they took. It was just gross.
  6. Oh forgot to mention... glad to see Kelly Jenrette show up again on my tv screen as Oscar's assistant Rhonda. I loved her in Grandfathered where she was John Stamos' right hand. So it is nice to see her here again at the side of yet another slick man in a bespoke suit.
  7. Gah. Most characters on the various NCIS, CSI shows deliver wooden dialogue but most of them have some personality that rises above the procedural stiffness. But NCSI:NOLA just added this new FBI character played by Vanessa Ferlito who is just horrible. She is humorless, has resting bitch face and just needlessly adversarial.
  8. Explain this, please? Black college students were barred from pledging white fraternities and sororities, so they established their own. Typically members of the sororities refer to each other as 'sorors'. So this tells us that Mariah and the Lieutenant belonged to the same sorority. The skee-wee reference tells us that they belonged to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority because Skee-Wee is the call of the sorors in that sorority. It is the first established of the black sororities and that carries a lot of pride for the members. The way Misty delivered the line leads me to believe that she herself was not a member of a sorority in college.
  9. Given how self conscious Ginny was about people seeing them even being around each other, nude pictures would feel out of character. I could easily see her being just as upset about pictures of the two of them simply looking couple-y. I like that Ginny's old boyfriend seems like a decent guy and not some sleezoid. That is nice. I don't know who that actor was who played the other pitcher, but I loved the look on his face when he reassured Lawson he wouldn't have hit Ginny, He looked a little horrified at the thought. I wish we could see more of Ginny and Amelia's relationship. So far they feel more distant that it seems they should. And finally, yes I like the vibe between Ginny and Lawson. I do think he has a bit of a crush on her but so far I think they are hitting just the right note with these two.
  10. I only know about the law what I see on tv -- so there you go -- but I don't think it is up to the victim to decide how to charge the perpetrator. I would think that is completely the DAs decision. I think the limit of the victim's choice is that they go to the cops to report the crime, they want to press charges. But that feels like it is moot, because Alex was arrested even before DeLuca got out of the hospital. And I would think the severity of his beating is what led the DA to the felony. At any rate, nobody should be mad at DeLuca for anything. He was the least to blame for any single thing that went down in that room. If nobody is blaming Jo for anything then nobody should be prepared to blame him. It doesn't matter if they buy that Alex thought he was protecting Jo, the minute they all knew he was mistaken and whaled on a guy for helping his girlfriend, any thoughts they might have had of blaming DeLuca should fly out the window. I think this is what absolutely infuriates me about this storyline. Can you imagine if DeLuca had been a female who had gotten assaulted and she was being treated as cavalierly as he is? And everyone rallying around the person who beat her up rather than showing her some concern? It is just shitty storytelling. All those interns last year and not one of them is by his side as his friend? Lets saddle Maggie with this stupid triangle and not allow her to go to him. Or hey, what about Webber? Not even a scene with Weber who had started to develop a relationship with him both as Maggie's boyfriend and Arizona's housemate. Just because he's no longer dating Maggie doesn't mean that they couldn't have built on that outside of her. Just bad form all around.
  11. I loved Connor's telling Michaela "Our ex has gotten engaged." Ha! and snort! The Atlantic City scenes were fun. Honestly, if you had asked me who the unlikeliest couple was on the show I'd have said Asher and Michaela but, darn it Asher is winning me over. He is such an idiot, but I can't be mad at him. He is besotted with Michaela and he is being a good friend to Connor and Oliver. He's such a damn puppy. Speaking of Michaela, this was a great ep for her. She has grown since season 1. I loved her take down of the pawn shop guy and how she was really on top of all the precedents in the case. And her coat was fab. Nice to see Milauna Jackson as the newest DA to tangle with Analise. I've liked her since she was the badass CIA chick on Strike Back. Looks like she'll be sticking around for a few more episodes. Although DAs don't fare to well in this universe, it is like the Defense Against the Dark Arts job with Analise and her crew being the Dark Arts. So the poor dear will probably be admonished, demoted, fired or dead by the time this all ends.
  12. Yeah, but the only information we have about Jo is what Jo has told us (Alex). So conceivably the foster care thing could also be as much fiction as her name.
  13. I think Stevens has always been openly sexist and racist. But I think the difference is that the comments after the "white children" line simply were too pointed and not delivered with the sly comedy they had been in the past. They sounded like "straight" lines, rather than funny ones. So there was no humor to mask how unpalatable the comments were. I did appreciate the nod to continuity about his murdering son, though. He has another murderous son and last season, i think it was, he talked about paying off senators to get them off of murder charges.
  14. They need to put this Meredith, Riggs, Maggie story out of its misery. I know Maggie comes off as young acting, but really Meredith? Suggesting Riggs go out with Maggie and act like a jerk to turn her off? Real mature. I was so happy to see somebody show some compassion for poor DeLuca I think I gave Arizona the same heart-eyes that he did. I enjoyed the craziness around the The funeral family case. It was the most fun I had watching a medical case on this show in awhile. Stephanie's one-liners were fun too.
  15. Heh. And this was the entire appeal for me. He's not another dude in tights. And I admit I like the references to black culture. I already mentioned upthread the lovely conversation about black male lit, but there was a line in a recent episode I watched where Misty snarked at her lieutenant who let Mariah go, "You just allowed your soror to skee-wee on out of here." If it passed you by it doesn't impact the story, but if you got the reference, then it filled in some interesting background information about those three women. Also the way Misty delivered the line was filled with meaning.
  16. Not my favorite ep of the series at all. Diamondback remains a weakness to me. Mariah, otoh, is still scary. The cops remain dumb, except Misty. Really people? A guy takes the time to wear a hoodie to hide his face but then screams out his name after killing cop? The same guy who after being caught on video specifically NOT killing two other cops, in fact he protected one with his own body. Claire is cool. So bad to find out Reva saw Luke as just an experiment and was playing him.
  17. The whole ignorance conversation was gold: Diane: Who are you voting for Ruby: Whoever the Democrat is, baby. Diane: Without even knowing where they stand on the issues? Seems ignorant. Ruby: Would it seem ignorant if I slapped the taste out of your mouth? [Diane looks shocked] Ruby: Oh sweetie, oh sweetie I am so sorry. Sometimes Grandma forgets she's been saved. Listen honey, ignorance is being unaware of the dangers of the kitten heel. [cue flashback of Ruby wearing kitten heels, stumbling into a voting booth and mistakenly voting for Pat Buchanan]
  18. So that is Diamondback? Not impressed at all so far. This guy is supposed to be some major crime lord with a group of minions at his beck and call and he is acting like some over emotional fool. I think it would have been smarter if this actor had been cast as Cottonmouth and Mahershala Ali had been Diamondback. He seems like he would have made a better fuck up. I also hate that everything seems to come down to daddy issues. Sigh. Oh Misty, you disappointed me here. You are usually so smart and yet you did everything really dumbly this episode. The writing for her this ep gave me whiplash. She knows Claire was with him so why is she making such noises about bringing him in? The gloves are evidence but they can be argued as circumstantial. And there was no reason to take her frustration out on Clare, because that is what it surely was. At first I wondered if she was playing to her boss knowing she was watching. But then she seemed to snap out of whatever fugue she was in when her boss opened the door. And then there is Candace -- how smart is it to not allow your "eye witness" to actually give a statement? Whipping her out of there so fast actually casts suspicion on her. But the real kicker is how the heck does one just walk it off from a punch from Luke Cage? Diamondback must have some reinforced bones himself because the man manages to remain remarkably upright after being punched by Luke, falling from a balcony and bouncing off those hard ass theater chairs and then being flung hard bodily against a supporting column. He should have been out! Also this inspector is a caricature of a hard ass police. Misty's comment "You let your soror skee wee on out of here." made me chuckle. So Mariah and the Inspector are both AKAs. Heh. Misty imbued that comment with a lot of disdain a college athlete might feel against a sorority. Perfect delivery. And finally, Shades thinks he is in charge and is controlling Mariah. Fool have you met that woman? She will turn on your ass too. He may have said "That's my girl" all condescendingly and shit, but he did not catch the way she cut her eye at him when he said it. Naw, she is all about Harlem and black folks she is not going to let Shades pull her strings for long. Even with my major frustration with this episode it was a mover that's for sure. And it ended on a nice "Well, damn." moment.
  19. Well. Huh. That was unexpected. I always felt Mariah was a seething mass under the surface and we hadn't seen it yet. But damn, this? Out of all the stuff that could have sent her over the edge, out of all the differences she had with her cousin, I love that it was her molestation at the hands of the uncle who favored him was it. I hate to see Mahershala Ali go because he was a charismatic villain but I did not mind that he had to go out at the hands of Mariah. If you count Misty taking out Lt. Perez in the last ep, then this is score-2 for the women of Luke Cage vs. dirty men. The shooter has GOT to be Diamondback, yes or one of his henchmen? Who else would have the bullets capable of hurting Luke. Will we finally get to see him? Will he stand up to the hype? I hope so, admittedly I haven't paid too much attention to the casting beyond Colter, Missick, Woodard and Ali so I don't know who they would have cast for Diamonback. But he (or she?) needs to bring at least what Ali brought to Cottonmouth to be viable, imo.
  20. My take away is that if you can, get on a Netflix or HBO show. Cuz damn! They have deep pockets. Do Lauren Graham and Alexi Bleidel really deserve 750,000 for a reboot of a 10 year old show? I find it depressing hat Anthony Anderson makes more than Tracee. She, imo, is the best part of Blackish.
  21. This would be the show to test the validity of Fox's stance on not using Overnights and Live + SD numbers . Back in November they said: So if they are really walking the walk, then the decision to keep Pitch isn't going to be based on the Nielsen overnights but rather how it is performing on other platforms.
  22. Yes. The recording actually exonerates Davis from the rape. Everyone in that room heard her admit that he didn't rape her. He is guilty of being a philanderer who has a callous disregard of women, but he didn't commit a criminal act. If David wanted to he could rip those papers and that check up and told her he'll see her in court. At most he'd be exposed as a man who goes to hookers and disrespects his wife. But people would shrug that off, it would be nothing but a nine days wonder. But the real goal here was to punish Davis and Charley. As much as I hate to admit it think the Goldie stuff was the weakest sauce of the whole series to date. The actress who plays her is wooden and doesn't bring much to the table emotively.
  23. Great episode. Lots of stuff happened. And yes, Poor Charley. She tried to be steadfast. The best that can be said is that at least Davis didn't rape Goldie. Small favors at least. But damn, his unconcern for her is just... he is trash. And omg, a three year relationship. Damn. Loved Nova's read of him. But boo! Nova took money from the farm account to what? Prove a point about Davis. I guess each sibling has to do something truly monumentally stupid per episode or they wouldn't be them. Can this please be the end of Ralph Angel's bad decision hard luck tour? Aunt Vi came through in the clutch. Holy cow. She did him a huge solid. I wanted to leap through my tv and hug her my damn self! Remy was wearing the hell out of that tee-shirt. When did Dondre Whitfield get so fine?
  24. I loved it. Made me uncomfortable but made me laugh. Some observations were spot on. I thought there was some real sharp commentary here. Dre's over the top act was for once perfect. And of course Ruby is Donald Trump. She really, really is. And of course Johan is a Bernie Bro. Junior just keep on Junior-ing on. You do you, bro. From the elf/Klingon ears to the Hilary suit, this was a strong ep for him.
