  1. I have never lived in Virginia, but the apparent greediness of the former governor's wife (and governor?) is fascinating. If the Washington Post story (which Rachel reported on today) has an accurate witness list, this trial could last beyond the end of summer -- giving Rachel an opportunity to highlight the low points of that governorship. As Rachel said, "It's a spectacle." Virginia Governor's trial -- Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/robert-mcdonnell-trial-to-cast-unflinching-light-on-virginia-couples-friends-marriage/2014/07/26/7499feee-1347-11e4-8936-26932bcfd6ed_story.html
  2. Okay, I was looking forward to the Ingmar Bergman films my Comcast directory told me would be on -- but I saw a James Garner movie playing -- wish I had known they were doing a retrospective today. @Rinaldo - I completely agree about the cutting of the Bernstein songs in "On the Town" -- I recorded the film years ago just to hear that wonderful, wonderful quartet "Some Other Time," and could not believe it was not in the film. Never watching it again. At least this schedule shift got me to find this thread in previously.tv -- good to see familiar names!
  3. I think he said he worked with his Dad on the car, so it sounds like a many-weekends project. I agree, the parts would have cost $$$. I'm with Richard -- I would not let a 17-year-old driver loose in a rebuilt car without air bags.
  4. Was Shel the lightweight that Sookie tried to set up with Lorelai? I am clueless!
  5. Completely agree about L/L and the lack of chemistry *once they got together* (as you said). I thought there was lovely longing, especially on Luke's part, in seasons 1-3, when he gazed at Lorelai like she was a magic lollipop who would give him the life and love he longed to have. I always felt Lorelai's attention to Luke was more about a mixture of attraction and proprietary: How *dare* you not tell me you got back together with Nicole? How *dare* you not tell me you had moved to another town? Don't even *think* about dating that Chilton Mom! She was far better on Luke's pedestal than in his bed. It was the tension that gave them the magic in the early seasons. But I always saw the magic with Christopher -- with him, or staying away from him -- until the final season.
  6. I think Max would have been a very stable (boring?) husband, and he did dote on Lorelai and wanted to have the best possible relationship with Rory -- a real plus for a stepfather. I always thought Jason was the best match for Lorelai, assuming he could get his career restarted. He had the quirkiness that complemented hers, and I always thought he was a little in awe of her persona. Max was never in awe of Lorelai, but assumed the older mentor role with her. But for chemistry, Lorelai and Christopher in seasons one and two was the best. He got too tortured after that, with the baby and Sherry drama.
  7. Seen in the outdoors parts of SH?
  8. Oh, it's these letters, and the Masonic symbols, etc. If I think of enough special items I'll think up a thread! Again, thanks for this!
  9. I read this and your other two messages about hidden messages. That is very, very cool, and I had never heard of these! We need a thread of hidden meanings in Morse/Endeavour so these are preserved! Thank you!
  10. Resident of Stars Hollow? (either new or long-term)
  11. Does the interaction involve Lorelai?
  12. Does the interaction happen at the Emily/Richard residence?
  13. I could have bought this concept if he had been teaching business -- universities (including Yale) often bring in practitioners who have practical experience (law, music), but are not academicians. Some work out very well. But teaching economics -- I agree, that is a stretch worth nitpicking! It's not like he had been on the board of the World Bank.
  14. Is it the parent of any other character? (Asking in case it is not Hay Bale Bill)
  15. Oh, yes, it was so ridiculous that Lorelai had not a single piece of public clothing in the house in the "Lorelais First Day at Chilton"! I mean, she had a full closet of clothing, and even if some was designed for evening, it would have been better than the cutoffs. (Which she rocked, of course!). But who sends *all* their clothing to the dry cleaners? Plus, what time was this dry cleaner supposed to be open, for her to PICK UP her clothing and CHANGE into it before the early departure for the first day? And why not pick up ALL her clothing the evening previous, instead of painting Rory's toenails?
  16. Okay, now we are getting somewhere! (Not sure where yet!)
  17. Okay, is *Rory* in this scene? I was thinking "no GGs," but I see you only excluded Lorelai!
  18. Wow, thanks, dcalley -- last time I looked, last week, there were no full episodes on pbs.org. Will start a re-watch tonight!
  19. Is the other person Sookie? (I get your distinction of her not being a "townie"!)
