  1. Black tee-shirts. Oh, wait, has that been done already? :-) Last night seemed less sketchy in terms of their safety, but I can't watch a whole hour of the coverage through my fingers.
  2. Oh, thank you, Hava, because I fell asleep doing a DVD recording of the show with no commercials, and woke up to Craig Ferguson. So I have that final farewell, and will watch it after dark, the only time really to appreciate Dave. :( indeed. Dave can really break my heart. ETA: I watched the end of the show, and it was like he was talking to Robin in the room. And then they closed with another picture of Dave and Robin while the band played the show out.
  3. I also was struck by the fact that they had so many pictures of Robin lying on his back laughing so hard. And I felt for Dave especially at the end when he said he had no idea Robin was in so much pain. You could tell how deep this went. If this terrible incident had happened after Dave went off the air, I would have felt the loss of a tribute like this from Dave. And I had not realized he had known Robin from his very early standup days.
  4. I'm really concerned -- tonight, Monday, Chris stayed throughout the night to provide live coverage at least up to midnight, as I write this. It seems more dangerous than it is worth, and I hope his wife has good friends and family to be with her while her husband is part of this live drama. Little babies at home, it would be so much easier for him to be reporting from New York. I admire his strength, and worry about the judgment of MSNBC in keeping him out there on the street.
  5. Does the scene involve attendance at a holiday dinner? (I also can't host right now! But trying to help someone get there)
  6. Well, I am less cool than Clare! Thanks for explaining!
  7. If that was a link to a picture, it needs a URL. I understand the Clare character -- controlling everything and everybody as much as possible, so that the world does not start hurtling toward the sun. What saves her for me is that every now and then, she has some self-awareness of her own nuttiness. And she loves her family as much as Phil does.
  8. You got it, mstaken! And because I find the conversation so hilarious, here it is, with a few lines snipped. MITZI: Lorelai? LORELAI: Yeah. Oh my God! Oh, Mitzi, wow, I haven't seen you since -- MITZI: Your seventh month. LORELAI: I was going to say high school, but OK. MITZI: Oh, no, did I say something rude? LORELAI: No, no. MITZI: No, I did. I said something rude. I've been trying to work on that. LORELAI: Well, a noble goal. MITZI: Ever since my divorce, I've been really trying to work on myself. You know, I just -- I want to grow. [snip] MITZI: So are you married now? LORELAI: No, it's just me and Rory. MITZI: Your cat? LORELAI: My kid! She's right over there. MITZI: Oh. (turns to look) Wow! You can really see Christopher in her, can't you? LORELAI: Yes, you can. MITZI: Does that kill you? LORELAI: You know, what? I see...someone...else...and it's been great.

  17. Wow, I had no idea if I was anywhere close!!! New game: I am thinking of a person.
  18. Be careful of those bargain sets on Amazon. I got two later seasons that came in flimsy plastic clips (not the kind of DVD indented holders I have in earlier seasons and all other DVDs I've ever owned), and the clips had broken in transit (or before then), so the DVDs were rattling around with sharp broken plastic, and got scratched. Also, there was no index to the DVDs or booklet, so I had to guess which episodes are on which DVDs, when I tried to play them, but they skipped so much that I gave up on them. The vendor took no responsibility, and it was all crap to begin with. So, buyer beware! P.S. -- I had bought seasons 1-4 as separate seasons from Amazon, and they were beautifully packaged, with booklets and episode guides. So, it is up to us to identify the right kind of packaging!
  19. MeTV is broadcasting a Rockford Files episode today (noon PT) that features Lauren Bacall -- so we can miss James Garner and her all at the same time. To the poster above who questioned whether "Cheers" is really retro: I feel your perspective, but it premiered over thirty years ago -- when I was in my twenties, shows from thirty years earlier were from another solar system! It is hard to believe that the 1980s were a long time ago!
  20. If I was not going to watch "Meet the Press" with David Gregory (and I did not), replacing him with Chuck Todd is *not* going to help -- will make me less inclined to watch! At least they did not (yet!!!) turn to the sentimental favorite Dauphin. Completely agree with your assessment, Andyourlittledog2!
  21. I even looked at the spoiler, and am still so clueless! Was it the dressmaker's dummy in "Rory's Dance"?
  22. Thanks, dustylil -- I had not remembered (maybe never saw) the TWoP conversations about this -- sorry I missed it all! I've had to go through low-level Secret Service screening just as a guest/organizer at an event (not a sitting president, but past one), and they sure dug into some questions about others involved in the event! And that is a really good point about workplace stressors! You are right -- as a potential employer, I would be less concerned about the "lark" of Grand Theft Yacht and far more concerned about "my employer (and boyfriend's father) gave me a bad performance review and I had a meltdown." I'd be wary of hiring that.
  23. No, it was not expunged. The judge said it could be expunged in five years: "assuming this is indeed a one-time occurrence, at the end of five years' time Miss Gilmore can petition the court to have this expunged from her record." There was no follow-up to that in the two remaining seasons.
