  1. You have to remember that at Endeavour's current level, he is exposed to more of the lower-class issues that higher-ranking officers see less of. Certainly "Sway" could have been a plot from the later years, as could "Trove" have been -- all middle-to-upper-class Oxford, including colleges of Oxford. I always thought that the "Inspector Morse" episodes ended darkly -- not every one, but overall, there is a sense of despair and loss at the end of most of them. I find that mimicked here very well. To my eye, these are all the same world of loss and justice not always being served. Usually by the end of an "Inspector Morse" episode, some family has been destroyed, its illusions of normalcy shattered. There is a strong implication in Morse's world that the loss could happen to anyone if the unhappy Fate happened to land on them. And indeed does to Lewis's happy family.
  2. I think Bright is very conflicted about Endeavour -- especially given that he clearly is taking full credit for that report that Morse wrote ("typed") for him. I see him weighing whether that report will get him the position he hopes for in the new police district, or whether he might still need Endeavour to maintain that level of contribution. Most of the exchanges about Endeavour are about keeping him in his place, so by now it is clear that Bright sees how excellent Endeavour is, but that also makes him nervous. I am really irritated that we got no resolution or even followup to those mysterious scenes about the stolen items featured at the end of the first two episode in this season. I don't even mind the cliffhanger, but those little mystery scenes should have been made more clear at the end of series two. It's not like we wait until September for resolution -- it is years away!!!
  3. You all said it all. Nothing but dread from the time Endeavour entered that trailer park to the slow plucked "Morse" musical theme -- I thought the boy or the puppies would meet a very bad end. That was a Shakespearian tragedy of bodies by the end. And that dummy! I have always been freaked out by them, but this one is the worst for sure. Is Bright totally useless? Just watching Endeavour get taken away without any reaction? I do not think they have started filming Season Three yet, so it will be a while. The Inspector Lewis next season is filming and due out here sometime in 2015. I don't know if the same crew does the work on both series. I think these links to reviews/recaps of this episode in some British newspapers back in April are useful -- and clearly expecting Season Three! http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/reviews/endeavour-series-2-episode-4--tv-review-9270336.html http://www.all-allam.com/factfiles/endeavours02e04review.html
  4. Thanks very much for all these details! I could only find the NY Times article, and I found it very weird that she said "Ms. Garten said she had no information about the company’s finances." That's what made me think something was very wrong financially, because with business expert Jeffrey as a husband, they would not consider making any decision without full financial information and projections. I guessed from the NYT article that playing dumb seemed like the smart thing to do. I also never tried the dinners -- she clearly has some fans of the dinner on this thread, but I was put off by the reviews. I love her recipes for home cooking, though!
  5. Yes, I just don't have time to run the questions -- so let me tee it up for someone to guess: Did this student disappear forever in GG world soon after this interaction with the parent?
  6. Was this person a parent of a student at Chilton?
  7. Was the person seen at Chilton?
  8. Was this person at the Emily/Richard home?
  9. Maybe "the last of the best" -- that is, before the April years. But no, those episodes were not the best by any stretch of the imagination. I found the so-called newspaper internship tedious, and am always amazed at how few episodes involve the newspaper internship. In memory, it seems like half a season, but no, just two episodes! And these "final four" episodes also include the visit to the Huntzberger mansion (fourth episode from the end), and I hated how they interacted with each other and treated Rory. I'd take almost any consecutive four episodes *before* these as the "best" instead of these!
  10. This is super, lulu1960! I know it's hard to copy and paste on a device! This really helps figure out the next question! Is the object in the episode out in the woods: "You jump, I jump, Jack"?
  11. It is helpful if all the answers are listed and numbered each time an answer is provided -- there are differences in the lists above, and I think about 7 or 8 questions have been answered so far. Thanks! Is the object related to the Life and Death Brigade or members (which includes Logan)?
  12. I'll let someone else finish this -- I think it is all there. (Yes, I do believe it flashes briefly in the scene back at Stars Hollow!) I had the same thought about "bedazzled" when I wrote that question! Bedazzled is for us common folk -- Emily will have nothing but bejeweled!
  13. Is it jewelry, or was it bejeweled? And (separate question): were there young and old Yalies near it? (Aside from GIlmore Yalies!)
  14. I think this is in the books -- part of it (the father's re-marriage) was discussed in one or two episodes when Gwen the step-mother was mentioned. Gwen appeared in "Cherubim and Seraphim," along with Morse's half-sister.
  15. Was it a loan of an item that had been given to Emily by Trix?
  16. I just saw that Facebook post about her frozen dinners -- anyone know anything beyond her claim that she wants to be more "hands-on" than the big bad new company will allow? Or was it just a matter of sales not being able to support continuing the BC frozen food line?
  17. Colin Dexter is the author of the original Morse books. I do not know if Thursday is in there (I very much doubt it!), but I have never made it through more than one chapter of any of the books. (Again, I love mystery novels, but not these!)
  18. Posted today: video of Elaine Stritch appearing on Dave's show -- have we ever seen anyone own the stage like this when Dave was also there? It was Elaine's world -- Dave just sat in it. (Excellent video quality) http://uproxx.com/tv/2014/07/relive-the-time-elaine-stritch-mistook-david-letterman-for-her-pool-boy/
  19. Inspector Thursday never appears in the original [later years] series of "Inspector Morse".-- I do not remember him being mentioned. The only person we have met in "Endeavour" who shows up in the later years is Strange (later played by James Grout), who becomes the Chief Superintendent in the original (later years) "Inspector Morse" series; is problematic for Morse to deal with. Robert ("Robbie") Lewis is a Detective Sergeant in the "Inspector Morse" series; and is later promoted in his own series "Inspector Lewis" (played by Kevin Whatley in both series). He is a sympathetic foil to Morse; Lewis is a family man whom Morse is continually trying to pull into pubs for drinks. Robbie would not even have been born, or was barely born, at the time of the "Endeavour" series.
  20. The printing press was in the dorm room until it vanished, not the apartment.
  21. Is it in the apartment that Paris shared serially with Doyle and Rory?
  22. This is going to sound like I am being too specific, but I did not mean that he had a disappointing life -- but that he had a life of disappointments. To the outside observer, he had a successful career and deep cultural love and activities. Yet on the personal, and sometimes professional side, when viewed from his vantage point, I feel disappointment. I totally agree about his inability to commit -- which is usually expressed through making romantic choices that he has to know are flawed.
  23. I'm guessing she is out for the week, which means I am, also. It makes me realize I'm really watching for her contributions and ability to interview. Kornacki could be good for a segment or two, but can't carry an entire week. By the way, what happened to the final repeat of the show, which used to be 1:00 AM Pacific Time? For the past few days it has been "LockUp!" at 1:00 AM. that is NOT what I want to see instead of Rachel's show!
  24. It is not that Morse is facing impending doom, but that he is portrayed in later life as having continual disappointment and frustration, personally and professionally. And I think they are doing a beautiful job in this series of laying the groundwork for a life of disappointment. (So sorry, Endeavour!)
  25. Excellent, thank you so much, alynch! Now I know why the little card under the sandwiches said "Ham"! It was hilarious to hear each named sandwich get applause in the segment.
