  1. I doubt they ever had a pet as we think of them. They certainly don't show any real feeling for the animals we have seen them with on the show. Not to mention that Boob had enough trouble keeping all those kids fed for a long while. I can't imagine he'd pop for pet food too. Would they have received "pet food love offerings?" Maybe, but I can also see church friends thinking THAT was a bit beyond the pale...
  2. Something tells me "Gothard men" - for lack of a better term - ARE allowed to have expectations however. For example, I'm sure every single one expects that his wife will want to have sex with him. However and whenever he wants it. I'm guessing the men are told all kinds of things they should be expecting from marriage - and women. And that only women are told that "expectations ruin relationships." I think they basically get a lot of "whatever happens to you ladies, just deal with it..."
  3. Personally I think they do have LP friends of longstanding, and it just isn't shown because there is only so much time - and more interesting things to show...
  4. Thinking back on it, ALL the questions they've accepted on previous "viewer mail" programs have been pretty tame, IMO. I think it's actually unreasonable for the viewing public to think they'd want to answer any other kind. Would YOU want to explain why you must always have someone bigger than yourself along when taking your pre-school kids somewhere? It would be extremely refreshing if Bill and Jen WOULD accept some of the tougher questions - "How do you manage X or Y situations?" etc. It would certainly lend creedence to their own statement that they do the show to educate the public about little people - something I don't believe anymore - but I just don't think it's all that reasonable to EXPECT them to do that.
  5. Good point. I guess they feel they have to advertise the merchandise. It doesn't seem like John David is all that interested in settling down himself, but I'm sure Boob is telling him he needs to be.
  6. Once again, more evidence that the producers of 19K&C lack creativity and imagination - and are just plain weak overall. Weeks and weeks of boring wedding preparations for Jill, a two-hour snorefest of repetitive footage for the wedding itself, and now this. Here we have something that is not contrived and clearly broadcast-worthy. But did they use it? Nope. Where do they get these people?
  7. This is what I was thinking all through the John "Sling Blade" David episode. Where I live, we see volunteer cops only when there's a big community event, a fire or a traffic accident. That's when they get to put on fluorescent orange vests and caps and direct traffic. That's it. They don't have official, equipped police vehicles. They don't pull over traffic violators. They don't enforce laws or investigate crime. They certainly don't have their dads along for the fun - at any time. They don't have guns or any other weapons that I've ever seen, although they do get a pretty jazzy orange "lightsaver" for directing traffic at night. Give it up, JD - you're not a trained cop. You're not even an untrained cop. With all due respect to the serious and community-minded folks out there who volunteer in this respect in their regions...
  8. Whether the traffic stop was set-up by TLC or not - and I think it was - I doubt that Boob is EVER going to listen to or follow directions from one of his own kids. After all, he's the all-knowing, all-powerful Dad. He'll do just what he pleases...
  9. Agree. The one thing that has always seemed a little off about this show is that we never see Bill or Jen with any other little people. In general, most people are most comfortable with people with whom they share a lot of characteristics and experiences. While it would be very admirable if Bill and Jen were both raised to believe they were no less capable than average-statured people, it's also important to be taught to accept who and what you are. To accept your strengths AND your limitations. Average-statured people have them too. We all have things we can do, and things we'll probably never be able to do. As Amy Roloff said, "We can do all the things other people can do, just in a different way..." If they were raised with a COMPLETE disregard for the fact that they ARE little people, so much so that they avoid friendships and relationships with them, well that somehow just doesn't seem right - or healthy. I hope they actually have good LP friends - and for whatever reason it's just not being shown.
  10. It hasn't been Winter that's made Josh look pale. He's been looking pasty and unwell for the last two years, for the most part...
  11. Me too. PS - I don't check Twitter too often. Only when I think about it, which is about once a month. But I loved what Seth MacFarlane tweeted on Friday - "Leonard Nimoy brought us one of the greatest, noblest characters in the history of American storytelling. Someone find the Genesis planet." Spot-on, Seth.
  12. You already know this I'm sure, but probably because they make money doing it that way...
  13. Typing through tears right now... Perfectly-stated, frenchtoast. Perfectly. God bless Maisie, her brother & the whole family. Everyone here too...
  14. The perfect place for them - and just think! Issues about modesty - or immodesty - would NEVER come up!
  15. Another "well-said" to you, galax-arena. Couldn't agree with you more.
  16. So true. Reminds me of that line "Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car..." Actions speak louder than words, Duggars. Think about it. Seriously...
  17. Please... John David may be a constable, but he is not "in law enforcement." If he is, then I'm "in the medical field" because I recently cleaned and bandaged my nephew's scraped knee. To equate what he does to what a trained officer in most US city police forces does these days is to insult those individuals. Many if not most police are now required to have at least a bachelor's degree before they begin their police training. With his "education" it's completely possible that John David may not be capable of passing the Arkansas GED.
  18. This is the Duggar way, not to mention proof that Boob is a politician through-and-through. They BS everything in order to elevate it, to make it sound more than it really is. Because the unvarnished truth about them is so completely feeble. They've stated that Jill is a midwife, that Jana is a concert pianist. A while back Josh was touted as being a "political consultant" because he had a do-nothing website at one point. They've probably claimed that JD works in "law enforcement" and that Jinger is an "artist." Next up? Derrick is currently providing business advice and consulting for the WalMart corporation...
  19. It occurs to me that the Duggars insist on modesty in every instance except one - when "immodesty" - as it is to them - shows that the woman is pregnant - which as we all know is the be-all and end-all of their existence.
  20. Wow, what a TREE-mendous waste of time and gas. Well, gas anyway. Jill, for the moment, doesn't have a whole lot of meaningful Anything to occupy her time. I really have to wonder how clean the McMansion is. If I lived there, just keeping all those rooms dusted, floors and windows cleaned would fill a lot of my time. But somehow I doubt this crosses Jill's mind. After all, how many 14-year olds on their first crushes are worried about cleaning their rooms?
  21. Yep. In my state - New York - this is third grade curriculum. Good grief, Duggars. If you're going to home-school, do it right, dammit. You're single-handedly tarnishing every other dedicated, serious, hardworking home-schooling family out there.
  22. You're right, katycat74! It's been driving me crazy for weeks. Ben's dad totally reminded me of someone but I couldn't nail it down - it's Steven Carell!
  23. Totally agree, jynnan. You're right to be very proud of your husband. And if being shorter than average was part of Boob's problem - and I think it was - it WAS a cop-out. HIS cop-out.
  24. Yeah, I gotta agree. What a nimrod. He knows he's going to be filmed sharing the pregnancy news. One would think he'd have thought even a little about what he'd say. Maybe Derrick - someone for whom I once had high hopes - is in accounting for a really good reason. He's not exactly a man that can think on his feet - or even use words all that well.
  25. Exactly! You can certainly tell Boob was in politics. He speaks the very convoluted language of that particular species very, very well.
