  1. I've had mine for 22 years with no problems.
  2. I've learned to not read any Edith Wharton unless I want to be depressed. I know there are 'realist' authors, but in her world, being 'realist' always means a tragic outcome. Yes, I minored in English lit.
  3. It is a bit cringe about what is attractive of the time when it comes to both men and women (I know we tend to get absorbed into the feminist aspect, but women can be shallow too). In this era, it seems all about money rather than chemistry or connection. It's sad that these couples can't truly have dated without hovering chaperones. I'm not suggesting anything untoward, but they can't get to know each other.
  4. Just starting the first ep. Seth Rogen is totally creepy. I would imagine he's creepy in real life (he plays creepy well in other roles). And probably too stoned to know what is what. If you want insight into Tommy, interviews with his sister Athena (fellow drummer) are great. With Pam, I'm not sure what to make of her. She seems to have bad taste in men. I think she just had her fifth divorce. She may benefit from dating rather than marrying. Bobbie Brown of Cherry Pie video fame was engaged to him and he dumped her fast for Pam.
  5. I've only seen the first ep, but I'm already heartbroken for these women. He claims to be pro first amendment and pro woman, but he's the opposite.
  6. Loves Agnes' reaction when she walked into the great hall of the Russell mansion. I'm from Georgia and have lived in small towns and, of course, Atlanta, and please tell me Lane is playing a caricature. Love seeing Peggy's continued success. Is she supposed to be based on someone? Did I miss something or do we know why she needed a lawyer? Still loving Clara Barton. Can Turner get hired by a family from out of town? If she had a mustache, she'd twirl it. She's too much like O'Brien from DA. She's evil for the sake of being evil. At least Barrow had dimension. I like Marian with Larry. Why did Bertha give fans to her luncheon guests? In the preview for ep 7, it looks like poor Gladys may finally have her ball. Love that she has a new friend. Does Oscar live in the Van Rijn house?
  7. A good companion to this show would be the mini-series "The Buccaneers." It has a pre-Oscar Mira Sorvino and young Carla Gugino.
  8. Heh heh heh. That made me literally laugh out loud. Yo, science Miss Marian! Now we know why she wears yellow a lot. Poor Gladys is going to rebel and it won't be pretty. The poor young woman is going run off with some man getting married at the courthouse. How old is her brother? Does he have his own place? Please don't marry her off to some gold digging earl or duke unless they wind up like Cora and Robert. Was glad to see Marian and Peggy make good again. I'm now a Clara Barton fangirl. So is Mrs Morris destitute now? If she's from old money, does she not have family she can stay with?
  9. Poor Gladys. She deserves a love match. Please get rid of Turner now.
  10. I'm becoming a Bertha fangirl. She doesn't take crap and is ride or die with her husband. Those two took their wedding vows seriously. They are two peas in a pod. Don't tussle with the Russells!
  11. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but an interesting take on her:
  12. Sometimes you can be 'poor' but posh with the right connections. Or maybe your wealth is tied up in properties. I'm thinking of all the relatively impoverished aristocrats that married daughters of new money America like Cora Grantham. The Buccaneers mini series would be a nice companion to this show.
  13. I know Agnes is old money, but I'm not getting the impression they are mega wealthy. Was the late Mr Van Rijn rich? It was mentioned that their brother lost their money, IIRC.
  14. Yes. It could have been a thank you gift to Peggy for her help at the train station. I normally like their friendship, but, wow, so cringe in this episode.
  15. Please let George NOT take the bait or get stuck in a situation that may be innocent, but looks really bad. I find infidelity a lazy plot point for movies, shows, and books. I like #TeamRussell Peggy dresses better than Marian, loans her money, and yet M was clueless. She's a special sort of dumb. I wonder if we'll see hottie publisher (Mr Fortune) again?
  16. Amen. He's an Ivy League law grad which means he's not poor and has connections. It seems that Marion and her family aren't rolling in the dough.
  17. Who got Pretty Woman vibes from Bertha in her red gown, white opera gloves, and fancy necklace when heading to the theater?
  18. Just started The Gilded Age on HBO Max. I'm mainly watching for the wardrobe.
  19. I'm shocked the clinic wouldn't tell HER. I do wonder in her teenaged mind, maybe they did tell her but she didn't care? How old was she? She was a scared 15 year old? She probably wasn't thinking about future children and may have said okay. If they tied her tubes, that's reversible and if she had a hysterectomy, her family would know what happened. There's no way she'd be up and about right after. She needs to stop blaming Jamie, but blame her unhealthy relationship with her mom. She's getting old to me. Her character is one dimensional. We get it that she's a ball buster, but I want her taken down a few pegs. I still don't know the deal with Kayce and the wolf.
  20. If she wants conjugal visits, she'll need a marriage license. LOL I'm creeped out by her ring. Eeeww! Dear Beth, you asked him to take you to the clinic.
  21. I haven't watched the last ep yet (about to), but Thom better be back. He's such a huge part of the books.
  22. He has some Youtube content that's cool.
  23. Watched the first ep, but don't know if I'll continue. The houses are definitely better than the Selling Sunset ones. And Rena is stunning.
