Political Ads: Get Off My TV Already
BW Manilowe replied to ABitOFluff's topic in Current Events & Politics
I'm in Northeast IN, so we have our own affiliates. If you look at a map, we're sort of in the "T" formed where Southern Lower MI's border is left-right at the top, IN's on the left side of the "downstroke", & OH is on the right. And going from the MI line, we're in the 3rd county south on the IN side of the IN/OH line. The weird thing, & I just really thought about it, is... Our TV stations (& National Weather Service office) cover parts of NW OH, at least as far as things like broadcasting severe weather watches & warnings for that area are concerned, but none of the NW OH or OH state political candidates/parties air political ads on our local stations. All of the ads I see, & have seen, are strictly for candidates running either in my city/county/Congressional District or in a race that affects the entire state. But yeah, the part of IN in the Lake Michigan area & starting at some point between South Bend (whose affiliates also cover parts of Southern Lower MI) & Chicago do get their network TV from Chicago-based affiliates & see--or should see--both IL & IN political ads. I'm not sure if out-of-state political ads air along the IN/Southern Lower MI border cities, the IN/KY border cities, the border cities along IN & the rest of IL south of Chicago, or the border cities along IN & the rest of OH. It probably depends on which market(s) those places get their media from & whether or not the campaigns involved think it's worth spending the money on the ad buys. But the Chicago/NW IN area is pretty definitely worth the ad buys for campaigns on either side of the line. -
I'm not sure I'd call CJ "a marketing/PR guru". Remember the "Toby goes to recruit CJ for Bartlet's 1st campaign" flashback in ITSOTG? She was, basically, working at a PR job in Hollywood when Toby showed up at her house. She really wasn't good at it--she wasn't doing the right things for at least the client we saw in the flashback, she didn't give a crap about the job like she does her political ones, & she got fired from the job because the firm she worked for needed to keep the client she was alienating/had pissed off with her work on his behalf. And Toby showed up the day she got fired.

I didn't say what you quoted about Julianne scoring Derek higher the last 2 weeks than the rest of the season. The last thing I posted was about Len's absence from DWTS. I'm not sure how I got credited with the Julianne & Derek comment.

The last 2 mornings (yesterday & today) on GMA they've said that, to get where Trump & Clinton probably actually are, poll-wise, you have to take all their poll numbers & average them. Supposedly the average of all their poll numbers is the true figure of who is/isn't ahead. I may not have said the above quite right, but I hope someone understands what I mean. I seem to be having a communication gap in some threads right now.

Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
BW Manilowe replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
Among the people I follow on Twitter is the woman in charge of selecting who gets a star each year (among those who pay the--hefty--fee, which is for making the star that goes in the sidewalk & putting it in its assigned space, & who also submit the required paperwork from the celebrity giving their permission for a possible star & agreeing to attend the unveiling ceremony, & other paperwork). She's also subsequently in charge of "producing" the ceremony at which the star is unveiled (which the honoree must attend unless, of course, it's a posthumous ceremony). And I'm not using her Twitter handle so people won't bombard her about not replacing his star. So far, she hasn't weighed in on the situation--whether or not the star will be replaced--presumably because of the still rather early hour in the Pacific Time Zone. When asked, she previously said/Tweeted, though, that Trump's star would not be removed simply because of the views he's espoused/his assholic behavior (this is my choice of words) on the campaign trail. Obviously someone took the removal into their own hands. -
Yep. I totally agree. At least most of us still try to respect the office of the President, even if we think the wrong person has that title/job. It appears Hannity can't even show that type of respect.

Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (yes, he actually has/had 1, presumably in the TV category) has been destroyed by a vandal with a sledgehammer (apparently it's been vandalized before, but--obviously--not to the point of destruction). The LAPD is investigating. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/donald-trumps-walk-fame-star-destroyed-by-vandal-lapd-investigating-941378?utm_source=twitter -
I might be wrong, but I don't think Len ever pretended to retire, or outright said he was going to. I thought he did the same thing then that he did this season--take time off to stay in the UK & devote himself to his Strictly Come Dancing Judge's position because he's getting/gotten to the age where a weekly international commute/time change/etc. is a bigger physical drain than it used to be (but Bruno, who's younger than him by at least 10 years, I think, still commutes between DWTS & SCD weekly) & because he's also had some health issues during the run of at least DWTS--I remember reading he had been treated for prostate cancer, I'm almost positive it was, between 2 sort of early DWTS seasons. And he also got married (re-married?) at some point in DWTS history & his wife & family (I think he has adult-ish kids from an earlier marriage) stay in the UK.

Politico reports Sean Hannity is offering to pay for a one-way ticket for President Obama (& presumably his family) to go to Kenya (& apparently not return) once he's out of the White House. He may also be amenable to a ticket to Jakarta, Indonesia (where he grew up). http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/hannity-obama-kenya-birthers-230317

I'm in Indiana. We have Early Voting by Mail (aka Absentee Ballot, which my parents & I are all eligible for, & are taking advantage of, because of age, permanent disability, &/or other illness), Early Voting in Person (which is currently going on & starts 28 days before the election) & Election Day Voting. As I said in 1 of the threads before, you have to fill out a ballot application if you wanna/need to vote by mail, which has to be received at the county election board by October 31st. You can download it or request it be mailed; to return, you can mail, email or fax it. You're eligible to vote early by mail (& probably also in person) if: You have a specific reason you won't be in your county on Election Day the entire time the polls are open (6A-6P) You're disabled. You're at least 65 years old. You have official election duties outside your precinct on Election Day. You're scheduled to work 6A-6P on Election Day. You'll be confined due to illness or injury, or caring for someone confined due to illness or injury, 6A-6P on Election Day. You're prevented from voting because of religious obligations 6A-6P on Election Day. You're in the state's address confidentiality program. You're a member of the military or a public safety officer. You're a convicted "serious sex offender" who is eligible to vote. You don't have a ride to the polls. When you get your ballot package/envelope, you get a paper ballot with the parties, candidates, & other local issues to be decided (retention of Judges, etc.) which has numbers next to your choices (i.e. 36 Hillary Clinton & Tim Kaine); a computer-type card with numbered ovals corresponding to your ballot choices--you color in the oval for the number you're voting for (like those "of a certain age" had to do with standardized/PSAT/SAT tests answers in school); a folder to put your completed computer card ballot in; an envelope you seal, with an affidavit you have to sign regarding your ballot, to put the folder with the computer card in; a prepaid, with 1 stamp, envelope to put that envelope in, which sends it back to the county election board no later than noon on Election Day; a notice that local mail could take 3-5 days so you can be certain of returning your ballot on time; a folder on how to vote properly & how to track your ballot once it's returned; a sheet with your absentee ballot voting rights, & a sheet explaining how to vote straight ticket, & that, at least where I am, voting straight ticket doesn't include the candidates for County Council At Large, even though there are 3 candidates (the limit) from each of the major parties--you have to pick 3 & vote for them (if you choose to) in addition to your straight ticket vote in the other races.

Since he was married to Ivana at the time, somebody probably would've believed him/been "influenced" to believe him if he described what he did to Ivana in terms of "normal" marital sex he was "entitled" (there's that word again) to, instead of rape. I'm not sure if the concept of "marital rape" had entered the "zeitgeist", as they say, at that point in time. -

Also, perhaps, Gore might've gotten Florida if Dubya's brother Jeb--an "also ran" this primary season--wasn't the Governor of Florida at the time that Presidential election was contested. Just saying. -
Approach The Bench: Law & Order General Discussion Thread
BW Manilowe replied to GHScorpiosRule's topic in Law & Order
In the ep where the guy buys a virus from a company called Allgen & kills his kid with it (which was on WE earlier tonight), I love the surprised looks Abbie & Jack give Adam when he tells them how to get to the motel where Briscoe & Rey, et al, end up finding the hanged body of the guy, like they don't believe/think Adam should know how to get to a place like that, before he explains he knows how to get to it because "you can see it from the highway". I also love Abbie's smackdown of the Texas serial killer they inadvertently stumble upon, in a different episode which was also on WE after the Dad kills kid ep, because he's used a similar MO to the NY case they're working. But, to be honest, the killer's comeback--after he's whined to his lawyer about, basically, how "mean" she's being to him, by threatening him with death in TX & that she hopes she gets to give the fatal injection--of making Abbie listen to how he tortured 1 of his victims was kind of epic too. -

If you think there should be a thread (this whole, overall thing is a forum; the topics within are threads) for local (&/or national) political ads, you can start 1 if you like--I started 1 for the VP candidates & others started ones for threads they thought appropriate. It doesn't take a Moderator, or permission from 1, to start a new thread.
